Adal was able to see the first heel to the face coming, at least. He put up a shield in response, which looked similar to a thin veil of translucent, lightly glowing glass. He stared up at the blonde girl from there, her foot balanced against the quickly dissipating shield.

"You don't know s**t!"

As soon as his magic flickered away, though, Adal did receive the second kick to the face. He slid against the cobblestone and the back of his head rested against rough rubble-- he balanced himself with his elbows and slowly raised himself up to a sit, eyes closed and teeth clenched.

She got him square between the nook of his nose and eyes. It didn't hurt for now, and Adal wiped the thick leveled dirt off of his face, testing the grime of it against his fingers. He looked up at Audrey, briefly impressed, then laughed.

"I didn't realize hollowed out skeletons could kick. Do you think I haven't heard the same before? How long is it going to take for you to realize that damnable thing on you‏r waist has ruined your life? Delirious little gils like you won't find any hope, even if that companion of yours actually grows.

"I've seen it, young Grimms full of hope. Then their Plague springs to life, then they abandon them, or kill them, and rarely do they die with them. Isn't it tragic how much the cycle of loneliness is perpetuated by its very own victims?"

Audrey was fuming. Only landing a single hit on the boy was not nearly satisfying enough, and they way he shrugged her off and continued to remain so mockingly collected irritated her beyond all words. As he had pulled himself from the ground and brought his gaze back up to hers, she glowered down at him. When he spoke, she nearly snarled at the sound of his voice.

"Stop talking like you know me," the urchin spat, brows pressing down as she narrowed her eyes," You think you know everything don't you? Bull s**t!" The hatch girl took a heavy step forward, closing what space between the two was lost when the plague had been knocked backward.

"Let me tell you something! You don't! Not about me! Most likely not about anything!" She pivoted. " I don't care what you think you've seen or heard!" She pulled back a knee. " I'm not some ******** idiot attached to hope!" She threw her leg forward once again, foot aiming for the young man's ribs. "I'm not lonely!"

"Hah! Everyone is--"

Before Adal was able to draw in his breath to shoot Audrey another retaliation, another voice zoned in from a distance.

"Hey-- you two! Stop it!"

Just as Audrey managed to kick a firm heel into Adal's ribs (and a distinct, faint sound of something echoed through the alleyway), a towering man pulled the girl away by the pigtails, his grip firm and gloved. It was, as it were, a Guardsman patrol: a homemade orphan detector, as it were.

Adal stared up at the nonplussed Guardsman from the ground, eyes half open from a combination of rising chest pain and quickly fading adrenaline, his Putesco prize now farther away from him than planned. Instead of being able to stand by his own, the Guardsman pulled him up, glare still locked to Audrey while he did so, breath heavy from having run all this way.

"You. What, exactly, is going on here?"

Audrey had been too preoccupied with her current attack on the yellow-eyed stranger to pay attention to the heavy footsteps coming down the alleyway. Even as the guardsman had approached the two, quite obvious in her peripheral view, she did not make any effort to address his existence until he had gripped her by the hair and tugged her away from the boy she had been kicking.

The girl's attention had then been ripped away from Adal as she gave a small yelp at being pulled by her braids, then quickly shot her gaze to the man apprehending her. Her face was still flushed, and her anger remained apparent.

"Nothing," came her reply once the man had questioned her. She'd only remained still and with eyes locked for this momentary response, then quickly began to attempt and free herself from his grasp. " Nothing! It's none of your business! Now let go of me! "

The guardsman glared at Audrey with a mix of great pity and irritation. He scoffed and grabbed even harder onto braids, to assure she wasn't going anywhere soon. "None of my business? You're causing a fight in public. That's disturbing the peace," he glanced at the state of Audrey's yellow scarf, which seemed thin and ragged, "And, judging by how you look, I'm to assume you're alone."

Adal collected his bearings while the guard wrangled Audrey's ponytails. He wiped off the snow on his face and glanced first at the bag of shillings on the ground near him, then at the guard and the girl-- this place was no Mishkan, which meant the guard wasn't too keenly trained on searching for Plagues, but Adal was confident that the man would catch onto it quite soon.

The Locos rose quietly to his knees. One of his hands hovered over the bag of shillings while Adal glanced up at Audrey and the guard; he scowled at the way the man pulled at Audrey's braids-- he was aware of the feeling after having a bed of hair for so many years, now. Adal sucked in his breath and wrung his other hand around one of the guard's legs, and tugged it tightly towards him, causing the guard to waver where he stood.

"Hey!" The guard let go of Audrey in an instant at the sensation, and jut his other legs out in retaliation to Adal, though by then it was too late-- Adal had already ran around the bend of the alley and immersed himself into the Imisese crowd again. The bag of shillings he took with him rang softly through the air, and the guard stamped his foot firmly on the ground.

"s**t! You--" the guard had realized Audrey had been let go of by now, but he took out his weapon nonetheless and marched out of the alley. He pointed to the girl, "You, just-- stay here! Else the guards will track you later otherwise, you hear?"

With that, the man ran off, and the alley remained strangely silent.
