It seemed like yesterday that she herself had stood out on the sands, clad in those robes, watching a clutch of eggs. Hoping. Desperatly hoping. Let me be chosen. Let me be the other half of a bright-hided soul. Let me be special. Her heart truly went out to all of the candidates, but she knew that many of them would have to walk away along today. She had never experienced that. She couldn't imagine how crushing it must be.

Biting her lip, Kleos watched the pair of greens intently; so far they both seemed healthy, and sure enough of themselves. She hoped they all managed to Impress.

"I hope there is a crimson," Moriath put in. "Greens are wonderful, I'm glad to see two get the first pick of the candidates, but I would like to see a crimson hatch today." Still, if it was not to be then it was not to be; she would just hope for as many females as possible, and not trouble herself too much about the finer details.

The first hatching.

It was the first egg she had ever seen hatch, while the goop should have grossed her out.... it really didnt. It was similar to a herd beast being born...in the goop everywhere sense. Tila had seen and helped enough of those before this, so this didnt phase her. Though the act of a life being born did. Her first dragon hatching she had seen!

She held her breath as the dragon approached.. she seemed to look into each of them, individually... only to turn away from the girls. No... theirs was not here. She smiled, remembering this egg. She would make theirs proud.

He'd have lied if he didn't feel his pulse quicken to see the first green turn away from the girls. She'd find someone... he knew she would. Ianath and Inaari must be so proud of their first clutch, surely it was a good one to have such vivid and energetic hatchlings.
Surely their energy was a sign of good things to come...wasn't it?

Rainforest churred and warbled as she righted herself, and proceeded to nose the rest of the eggs, turning a few on their sides and getting many a wiggling response in answer. Burbling with laughter, she looked up and very obviously grinned at the Candidates, course her impressive mouth was large as it was and the grin looked positively cheshire on this one. No harm, no foul, right?

The Deciduous green looked back when her sister warbled and huffed in amusement, nosing the boys out of her way so she could look back at the clustering of eggs.

A warning rumble from the golds sent the mischievous green tumbling and she righted herself with another laugh before heading off towards the boys as well.

Among the disturbed eggs, the desert egg was next to rumble and crack, its shell cracking into broad pieces and falling away to reveal a pale brown. His eyes, however, were whirling yellow as he lifted his head and played a gaze full of exacting appraisal over the gathered assembly. He snorted once, rolled his shoulders, and back away from the Candidates.

"Goodness!" Adi gasped, surprised that the mischievous green went so far as to tip over a few of the other eggs. Nothing so hard that it would hurt them, but it was still surprising, and she imagined not all the dragons inside were happy about it.

It certainly seemed that the brown who hatched next wasn't! She watched him carefully, just in case, and crossed her fingers for a dragonet to hatch who actually wanted a girl.

Anxious, Nayetuel hovered at the edge of the Sands, having managed a clumsy, if deep, bow to the lovely Gold dragon. He was still entirely uncertain about... well, everything, but the opportunity to Stand, to maybe find the place he was meant to belong, was too good to pass up. He'd had no luck with it back home, after all, maybe... Maybe this was where he was supposed to be. Maybe one of the dragons now emerging, one of the eggs still waiting, was for him, maybe his purpose was to be one of Pern's defenders.

Or maybe he was being ridiculous, even being here. Who was he, to ride a dragon? Who was he to have one of those fragile, intriguing little babies look to him for care and safekeeping?

But he wanted to belong, wanted so badly to find his match, and his purpose. And how could he not wish for a dragon of his very own? Look at them, they were darling! Three little dragons out on the Sands, one looking so... dignified, one so delightfully happy, and the little Brown looking so nervous! Who wouldn't want to be the one for them?

Ashmere held her breath for a great long while as she watched the newly hatched dragonets make their ways towards the sides of their choosing. She wasn't afraid, no, nervous, not at all. This was an event of a life time and she was simply trying to savour every moment of it without the sound of her breathing to ruin the noise and newly crooned sounds of the hatchlings.

It was at the sound of the desert egg hatching that Ashmere felt herself lightly begin to worry, the little brown seemed to be less than happy with his surroundings. She mentally wanted to speak to him yet she remembered the feeling of that little one when he was still in his shell, it would be best if a male settled him. Not her. Yet she couldn't help herself.

'I knew you would be a handsome one young brown. Better find Yours before your sisters out show you.'

Zeren snapped his head round as he was nudged aside, he was about to say something to whoever it was when his eyes were full of green dragon, who was looking back towards the eggs, that the cheerful green was inspecting. Once more he glanced at the stands and spied Kazvar. He smiled broadly and moved his attention back to the eggs again, just as a brown hatched. "pleeease let them find Theirs swiftly" he breathed to himself, worried that the brown was moving away from them all.

Kaz had his own eyes fixed on the dragons, though he gave Zeren a brief glimpse and a thin smile from the stands before turning his attention back. His expression was intense, as he mentally willed the dragonettes to find theirs, and willed one of the eggs to seek out Zeren. The boy wanted it, more than he ever had, though really what candidate on the sands didn't want to find their partner there. That was why they were on the sands, many putting everything else on hold for the rigorous studies of Candidacy.

Goodness, both greens heading for the boys? He fought himself against shifting nervously, they both seemed good tempered enough, they would find theirs he told himself. He Straitened almost sharply when the Brown backed up, no...no no.. he was afraid it might go between.
There had to be someone for all of them...there had to...didn't there?

Tila smiled, that little green was sure going to be a spitfire when they found theirs. Someone with a gentle but firm personality would need hers...

The brown was turning away? She looked curious towards the dragon hatchling... was it scared of them? She cure hoped that was just all, if something happened to the poor thing Tila would feel partially responsible... poor thing. She wanted to comfort it, but knew better than to leave her post next to the other candidates.

S'raid gave the little Brown a Look. If the single 'large' egg in the clutch turned up with a namby pamby nonsense dragonet, he was going to have words with... well. No, he was simply going to be mildly irked. Galvanth, on the other hand, crooned to the three little dragonets, acting for all the world like an overeager canine, much to his rider's disgust and guarded dismay. Yellow eyes, as far as S'raid was concerned, meant trouble. It was worse, of course, because of that nonsensical little Green. The silly thing didn't seem to know how a dragon was meant to behave, dancing about like... like... ... well, like her father. S'raid sighed. Of course.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, warding off that headache that was sure to come. As far as 'signs' went, a pair of Greens was less than impressive. He did not feel like discussing the implications of this with any of his fellows. Not anytime soon, at any rate. Galvanth, would you cease that infernal nonsense? he snapped, and then, feeling somewhat as though he had overreacted, he sent along a wave of warm feeling to the Bronze. The newly made father was feeling rather sensitive, he knew, and perhaps now was not the time for this.

Sorry, Galvanth said mournfully, but his tune changed almost immediately when he took note of the Candidates below. See how excited they are? They should be! After all, they were blessed with such excellent dragonets to Stand for. Didn't they know that? ... Some of them seemed to. Curiously, he looked over the Candidates, trying to decide if they were as excited as the occasion warranted. He bugled, and S'raid regretted loosening his hold on his Bronze. The bugle was quickly modulated to another croon within a matter of moment.

Mercy watched as both green seemed to be heading for the boys, that was rather odd now wasn't it? But she supposed the important thing was that they find theirs regardless of which gender they ended up choosing.

And peaking of choosing the next egg to crack hatched out a rather irritated looking brown who walked off from all of them with - was that a snort of contempt? Maybe..it was hard to tell I mean it was just a hatchling right? Could they really be contemptuous ? In any case it was probably best to keep a good eye on that one.

Anya tried to watch the dragonets impassively, if her's was here then it would find her right? Thats how it was meant to go and if it wasn't well..there was always next time and no amount of fretting or excitement would swing things in either direction.

That being said she couldn't quite quell the fluttering in her stomach and the hope that her's would indeed be here today.

Motion in the crowd of boys caught the Deciduous Green's attention and she turned around after a soulful croon to her brother and headed deeper into the boys, less gentle then she'd been before. The determined strength of her step was enough of a hint that she'd found hers at last.

Thus, when she sat down before her chosen rider, she crooned to him and when his eyes mets hers the Impression was made. Jarestmine, your Ilyrianth is hungry. We have much to do!

She warbled again then, tipped her nose and slid her head under his hand, eyes whirling blue and green, tinged with the red of hunger.

Behind her, the other green had stopped to regard the brown and her posture stiffened as the brown continued to back away. He tossed his head, flared his wings, keened. They were not good signs, and when he suddenly started burrowing into the sand as if it were a way out, he unearthed an egg nearly identical to his own that had gone unseen in the days and weeks since the eggs had been laid.

With a cry of displeasure and an answering keen from the assembled dragons, the little brown vanished Between. Eirlyn blinked and sighed, pursing her lips. The largest egg in the clutch at it had gone between... but more then that, there had been an eleventh egg, a seeming twin? Feynath shook her head and murmured her own surprise, something that was sure to be echoed among the rest of the attending people. Eggs didn't often go unaccounted for, but then again, if it's buried as deeply as it was, it wasn't too surprising.
