Zimo was following fairly well he thought, though he was nervous. He looked ahead often, admiring his friend's confidence. That Peya was also encouraging him helped Zimo's own confidence, though finally the other lion made a remark that caused him to bristle just a bit. He means nothing by it, just wanting you to be careful. Zimo told himself trying to settle. "Watch the path," Zimo replied finally with a firm nod, his voice was surprisingly steady and free from his more emotional first response.
When Clermeilli-Pie looked back Zimo was doubley embarassed. "It's fine Clermeilli-Pie. Between the two of you leading I'm doing ok. I just have to be more careful and get used to this. You know how clumsy I can be so I should be watching the path right in front of me and not get too far ahead of myself."
This was like a hunt, and he was a good hunter. He could move swiftly and silently when needed. The high path required the same care and attention.

Peya continued to watch Zimo carefully, learning his tells. He didn't like to be told what to do - what grown lion did? - but Zimo was clearly level headed enough not to get too upset. Good. He would have some adjusting to do when he joined the pride. And he was doing well on the high path for someone who had never traveled this way before.
Peya lapsed into silence, letting the two old friends do most of the talking. He did his job best when listening, any way.

Clermeilli-Pie chuckled. "You are not that clumsy, Zimo." He could be, true, but Zimo was usually not clumsy unless he was having a bad day. Or goofing off. Clermeilli-Pie resumed her leading with the usual grace and ease that she demonstrated with everything. Not having cubs to slow her had returned her speed as well, but she was careful to curb that in case Zimo was having problems.
She did not worry so much about Peya for two reasons. The first was that he was born to the People, so had much experience and practice with the high path. The second reason was that he was, as of yet, not a friend of hers, so her concern for him was not as great as for Zimo. When the arrive at the home tree she pauses to give Zimo a moment to catch his breath if he needs and look at the pride's home. "It is beautiful, is it not? This is Home Tree."

Zimo was not entirely certain about the other lion, but he seemed nice enough so far. By nature he was more prone to be trusting of others, but knew better than to depend too much on first impressions. he grew more comfortable moving among the branches, following Clermeilli's lead and getting a feel for the reasoning for the path she chose. His confidence grew that he would be able to do this on his own with practice. Thinking of it as a hunt helped his focus. It was a hunt in a way , for a solid, safe path.
When they reached the Home Tree, Zimo looked on it wide-eyed. "Yes, very beautiful. I've never seen anything like this before." He felt warmth move through him, his spirit lifted. "So this is Home..." and it was no question, but a statement from his heart.

Peya was pleased at Zimo's reaction to the Home Tree. You could tell a lot about a newcomer by the way they reacted to it - the ones that really belonged were usually simultaneously comfortable and in awe at the same time. This one would probably settle down nicely into the pride.
"I think Clermeilli-Pie ought to take you to meet the leaders as soon as possible, Zimo. Since she knows you best, she would be a better introduction then I."
Besides, if asked for his opinion, it would be later, and in private. But the lion, thus far, had his vote.
