She had watched him go and decided she needed a bath. So she wasin the process of bathing herself when he'd come back. She long sense given up on thinking about why he was acting so weird. Something told her this was going to end poorly, and yet she couldn't help but hope for something good. Something more than friendship. She was washing her back leg when he came back with the fish and dropped them. She murmured a thanks before she dug into a fish, picking at it carefully, near daintily. "...So... Do.. you want to talk about .......last night?"

Not particularly, he thought. But that wasn't really an option. Mon's directness had always been one of his favorite features about her. She didn't play games or dance around the truth. She just came out and said what was on her mind, logically and intelligently and succinctly, and he'd always respected that. At the moment, however, that was not helping in the least. She had also always terrified him. Now he felt a bit like a brow-beaten puppy, ashamed and ready to be cuffed and sent to bed without any dinner. Which was, really, what he deserved. "I'm sorry," he said. "I don't know what came over me, it just...you were so..." he cast around for an appropriate adjective and couldn't think of any. Figuring out a motive would require him to have been thinking at all, which hadn't been the case. "I didn't mean to take...advantage...of your...company." he said, choosing his words carefully, and winced a little, clearly expecting to be rebuked at any moment.

Oh. That's... She looked away from him as he talked and lowered her ears. So Kai didn't feel the same that she had. That was... well, that was... a surprise. One she didn't like at all. Finally, she looked back at him and sighed softly. "Oh... well... I didn't see it that way." She was talking to herself, mainly. If he over heard she wouldn't say anything about it. Now feeling like there'd been a kick delivered to her stomach, Mon's ears flattened and she started moving away. "I'm.... I"m going to go." She didn't feel like talking. Mind had been shattered, her heart crushed, but there had been some good from it. Now she knew how he felt, or didn't feel, about her.

Like the rambling idiot that he was, Kai only barely registered her words. He was so caught up in protecting himself from a perceived wrong-doing that he didn't take a moment to stop and wonder precisely what had happened, and so just kept talking. "You've always been such a good friend to me, Mon, and I'd hate to lose that over..." His ears flicked. He stopped, realized she looked extremely desolate, and his own heart gave a lurch. See what he'd done! He felt awful, but for all the wrong reasons, and he hung his head in utter shame. "I'm sorry," he said, perhaps not apologizing for the right things at all. "Take...take all the time you need," he added, and looked away -- respectfully, he thought. He hoped. Dammit, he was trying.

He was trying, she could give him that, but it hurt too much to be around him. Last night... she thought it meant something special, that something was going to change between them. It didn't. Nothing they did was going to bring them together. It pissed her off, it made her hurt so bad. Flicking her tail, she just walked without a destination.

Sighing, he held his head down while she left, trying to figure out where things went so wrong. Ah well, he thought, a little gingerly. Nothing for it now...all he could do was wait, and be around when she came back. Yes. Feeling desolate...but not nearly so much as she...the blue wolf turned and slunk back toward the main den group, looking for a distraction.
