Riley was just as cautious when she was being handed the basket, looking for activity. It could be that their worries were truly unfounded; at least, it seemed that way. Her fingers wrapped around the handle one by one delicately, and she held the basket at her side, at least six inches from her body, at elbows length. The tips of every single one of the tentacles that made up her hair stood on edge, pointed towards the pumpkin. If it so much as shivered, Riley would know.
I gather you've been taking the risk this entire time. I don't mind easing your burden this once.
Once the basket was safely secured, and vigilantly guarded, Riley gave Tahki a curt nod.
Lead the way?

The gryphon offered a smile to her new found companion. Riley had offered her assistance in a most dire need. That alone was enough to earn the full respect of the gryphoness.
"You're really brave Ri-Riley," Tahki turned and started off toward the monster dorms. "Its this way. I can take it from you when we get to the monster dorms."
And away the gryphoness started off in an awkward grace sort of way. It was clear that Tahki didn't get out much and when she did the gryphoness was just a ball of nerves. Though it didn't help to have a student eating creature in the mix. Nope.
Oh dear. Tahki was going to have lock it up nice and tight. Before the gryphon could finish her thought, how ever, she was stopped by a shiny coin just lying in the middle of the road. Gryphon instincts kicked in and Tahki was quick to stop and swipe up the coin. It couldn't be helped that Tahki was a treasure guardian at heart.
Tahki didn't even realize what she had just done and continued on like nothing had been in her path.

This was true. Riley was brave. It was difficult to be scared of something that might or might not eat you, when you spent the majority of your youth surrounded by creatures that would, given the chance, devour your brain at the drop of a hat. This pumpkin, albeit a possible threat, was not an immediate threat, and therefore Riley could be very casual about it.
That would be acceptable. Riley conceded, falling easily in step beside Tahki once the ghoul had gotten her stride. Who knew how many of these pumpkins might be lurking in the corners of the monster dorms? She'd rather not enter there today, not just yet. That was certainly an adventure for another day.
She didn't seem talkative, but Riley exuded the kind of atmosphere that welcomed quiet, and Tahki likely wouldn't find awkwardness in silence with her around at all. It could even have seemed pleasant.
Riley hadn't stopped when Tahki did, but she only got a step or two extra before she realized her companion had bent to pick something up behind her. What it was, Riley couldn't see; but it was shiny, and perhaps that was enough. Tahki walked on as if nothing had happened, and Riley followed along, but her eyes remained on the gryphon for the moment.
A hoarder, perhaps? A collector? Whatever behavior Tahki had just exhibited, Riley filed the information away for later. It could prove useful.
Without any query as to Tahki's actions impeding their journey, they seemed to have arrived at the monster dorms in excellent time. The door was opening, and closing, but no one was entering or exiting. Riley didn't want to know why. She stopped at the entrance, and turned to Tahki with a pleasant demeanor.
I think, perhaps, you have much less to worry about from this creature than we might think. It has remained docile this entire time, and may continue to do so. I would not stress on it too much.
That was Riley's subtle way of saying 'Sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs bite'.

Riley's words actually calmed the gryphon a great deal. Of course, Tahki was still cautious and untrusting of the thing, but the fact that Riley didnt think there was any threat eased the gryphon.
"Y-you really think its safe?" Tahki blinked and looked at the orange thing that was eerily quiet in the basket. Maybe it wouldn't eat her but Tahki didn't want to take any chances. She was going to have to keep a close eye on it just in case in the middle of the night she woke up to find her leg missing.
"Thank you so much Riley. I'll be sure to be careful." Tahki smiled. If the gryphon had been braver she might have hugged her companion but Tahki was shy and to her self.
"I'll take the pumpkin from here. Maybe see you in a class some time," Tahki extended her hand toward the basket awkwardly.

No. Riley responded quite honestly. But I think it is less dangerous than we make it out to be. And fear is power. If we do not fear it, I am confident it will remain in it's fleshy little shell until you are prepared for it. However. To err on the side of caution is always the most intelligent option.
She handed the basket over, and reiterated her phrasing.
So. Yes. Be careful.
Riley was transfixed at the sight of a smile on the ghoul's face, and she tilted her head to the side slightly as she watched it. Mouths were such extraordinarily complicated little things. This meant she was happy, did it not? Riley felt accomplished and fulfilled, having received this sign of acceptance. She was most certainly now on the gryphon's 'good side', as one might say. An excellent achievement in the right direction.
You're welcome. I am sure we will see each other in class, as attendance is mandatory.
This may have sounded a little condescending, if not for the tone of Riley's thoughts. It was merely a fact, that they would eventually see each other. She was simply confirming it.
She would smile, then, at Tahki, if she could. But she couldn't. So instead, in a bold move, she sent her new acquaintance a brush, which would feel like a strange, yet affectionate touch of one mind to another, as a way of farewell.
Until our next meeting, then. enjoy the rest of your day Tahki.
She would make no move to try and hold her hand out for the girl this time, as she had learned her lesson that Tahki did not like handshakes. At least, it was the lesson she thought she'd learned. With a swift nod, she turned and began running again, going from stand-still to rapid movement with little to no lag time.

Tahki held the basket away from her body. The fact that the pumpkin hadn't popped wasn't yet proof enough to the gryphon that it wouldn't pop at any moment. Hopefully Lizzy and her had adopted the dud pumpkin in the group. Even more hopefully all of the pumpkins were duds in the group.
"I'll be careful," Tahki assured her new friend with a nod and a serious business look in her eyes.
The brush to the brain had taken the gryphon by surprise. It showed on her face and left her a little to bewildered for a few moments to really say anything that might make sense. So her response was delayed by a could ten seconds.
"Y-y-yeah! S-see you in cl-class then!"
Tahki stood there a little bewildered as she watched Riley off. Tahki then took her own leave back to the mosnter dorms with doom baby and all.
