The truth is the heroic pirates of fantasy were in fact just that, fantasy. Even the before mentioned Blackbeard and Bellamy committed deplorable acts that included the burning of ships, the threatening and holding of hostages and committing mutiny. When you look at the pirates world however this makes sense. Most pirates were born into poverty. Until they began their crimes they were nameless and faceless in their time period. Once a man took to piracy by will, if ever apprehended by authorities all he would have to look forward to was the hangman's noose, as being a pirate carried an automatic sentence of death. Often times as well if a pirate was note worthy enough he would not only be executed but his body would be put in chains and displayed for passing ships to see as a warning. The scene when Jack Sparrow sails into port Royal and sees three pirate's skeletons hanged outside the city is one of the most accurate parts of the film as such a fate did await many buccaneers. Calico Jack was himself strung up outside Port Royal after his execution

This fate was not exclusive to pirates though. It was very common that the English would publicly display the corpses of criminals. Traitors to the crown were decapitated and their heads displayed on pikes on London Bridge. Captain William Kidd after his execution was displayed in chains over the Thames. The purpose of this was to serve as a warning to any would be criminals/pirates. As for Calico Jack Rackham His death was on the heals of the Golden Age of Pirates. Port Royal itself, which despite its portrayal in the Pirate's of the Caribbean Movies was really a pirate haven and considered one of the Wickedest towns in the world, had been demolished by an earthquake in 1692 that sucked half the city into the sea and killed thousands. By the time of Calico Jack In the early 1720s the city was little more than a place to bring pirates to die.

surprised
So it was like, a place for old pirates to come live out the rest of their lives!? Like an Elephant graveyard?
But still? No one ever cut down their buddy's body? Aw
AND! Did a pirate ever retire on all his spoils and go on to lead the high life? Whatever that means...Like The Dread Pirate Roberts in Princess Bride? XD

So, if you're a pirate... what is your pirate name? You do have a pirate name, right? Every pirate needs a pirate name. <3

New question
Are there any pirate songs or songs that we know today that are based off pirate songs?
AND
How did Pirates prevent scurvy? Did they have a trick? or just go ashore for oranges/lemons/limes/birch bark tea?

@Zetoa. A pirate Graveyard no and to my knowledge bodies were usually not cut down at the very least not by other pirates. The bodies were often placed along well traveled routes to serve as a warning to all sailors.
The songs we know today are really just modern songs that sound like what we assume pirate songs would sound like as far as I know but indeed singing and music was part of life about ships in those days. We have evidence of this because in the ship's code of Bartholomew Roberts it is stated that musicians shall take the Sabbath off but work at all other times.
As for preventing Scurvy the only effective method was to keep fruits present. Citrus fruits would prove a valuable prize for pirates and were sure to be a plundered Item if they came across them.
@Lunei. Ye know me name lass. *wink*
@At Thatguy. I not know about that kind of Piracyy ye scurvy fool! Next Question!
