Aesh
While quite a few songs were removed and those that remain were slightly edited I enjoyed it to no end. I was quite pleased with the updated music used in the movie. The actress playing Christine had one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. I also was quite pleased that it stuck to the musical style of Phantom of the Opera. I was afraid that it was going to be a true movie when I first got wind of it. I certainly recommend it to everyone.
I infinitely prefer Carlotta's voice. The girl playing Christine had a lovely, but simple, voice. Carlotta's singing was more complex, suited to an opera soloist rather than to a chorus girl.
Probably my favorite part of the movie was the beginning, where they sweep the curtain off of the chandelier, accompanied by the opening notes. Very dramatic. And the way the theater repaired itself as the chandelier rose... it was beautiful. And the ending cinematography as well.
I didn't like the impossibilities. How, if the Phantom (who, by the way, is actually named Erik) hasn't been out of the Opera Populaire for forty years, he got Christine's father's grave all lit up like that.
How candles rise out of the water and blink into existence, looking suspiciously like electricity, etc.
However, my least favorite part wasn't even part of the movie; fangirls. "Oooh, the Phantom is soo hot! He can take me into his underground lake any day!" Eeew! I mean, I can understand liking Legolas or Jack Sparrow... to a point. But Erik? He's a creepy stalker. And at least thirty years older than Christine. gonk
