Hi, Mikagi-sama! 久しぶりだな?
My gaian name is Herumouni, Hermonie or H as Vajra from the Foreign Languages Guild used to call me. It means 'to wish' and two other things, but I've forgotten them. I also like to use Saira, which is Arabic for 'traveller.' My real name is Jerica-a mix of Eric and Jessica. I am 20 years old, born in January '91. I live in Jacksonville, North Carolina and hate it. I can't wait to join the Marine Corps!
I love learning foreign languages. It doesn't matter how annoying it is or how frustrated I get, I still love it. I'm also interested in linguistics, though I know very little about it.
I currently only speak English. I have this horrible habit of dropping things and getting bored if I'm not challenged enough and unfortunately, that includes languages as well. I haven't studied much in the past few years.
I am focused more on Japanese, Latin, Gaelic and Arabic, but am also learning Italian and French. I know some of the Greek and Hebrew alphabets, a very little bit of Russian, Mandarin, Irish, Welsh, Aramaic, Spanish and Indonesian.
I plan on learning as many of the above as I can (excluding Spanish, I don't really care too much about actually studying it, I'll probably pick up a lot from Italian and French) as well as , Anglo-Saxon, Classical Greek, a few Arabic dialects including Pashto and Egyptian, Afrikaans, Swahili, Swedish, Norwegian, Hungarian, Hindi, Vietnamese, Laos, Burmese, Mongolian, Ainu, Okinawan, Tagalog and others.
Also, I often times learn better, by teaching. Probably because that is a challenge, especially if you don't quite understand the concept yourself. mrgreen

Hopefully this thread challenges you enough! There isn't much at the moment, but we'll see.

I hope so, too. I'd like to teach Gaelic, but I can't find anything past the beginner's stage. crying Everything else will be easier since I can find some college textbooks, but those aren't easy to find for Gaelic in the States. xp

*Gaia Name: Adormidera Real Name: Undisclosed. Please call me Dormi, short for my screen name. :} *Age: 21 *Location: USA *Languages spoken: English, Spanish *Languages Learning: Spanish, German
I'm a college student, pursuing an associate's degree before hopefully joining the US Air Force. My goal is to go to the Defense Language Institute and learn either Russian or Arabic, but in the meantime I'm taking Spanish 200 level courses at my local college and using free language tools online to help me with both Spanish and German.

Haha, great! I can actually help you with all those languages except Russian. At least, I can't pronounce Russian. We have a Spanish thread and a Japanese one. Icelandic I plan to cover when I get done with Latin and start on old Norse. German I'm kind of in the process of learning, so I might do a thread on that too. We'll see. ;D

Hallo, my Gaian name is Zyndril, and my real name is Diana, though I much prefer being called either Dan or Jak [it's a long story]. I'm Thirteen, turning Fourteen this March Third, and live in the Philippines [though I'll be permanently moving to my father's home in Italy instead this April]. I've traveled around a lot in my short few years, but not enough to learn a language, and when once I did I ended up forgetting how to speak the language only a few years later.
I'm very fluent in English (our country's focus is primarily on American-based English). My native language, however, would be Tagalog (the Philippine language) in the Tayabas dialect, though I can also do the more formal standard Tagalog taught in out schools. I am currently desperately trying to find a source to learn either German (preferably of the sort used in Northern Italy [near the border where German is used almost exclusively]) or Italian as I'll be staying for good in Italy soon. Otherwise, I'd also like to relearn Spanish (a language I was proficient in back when we stayed in Mexico for about a year), learn French (my father knows how, but I'm not entirely sure if there's a difference between Africa-used French and France-used French), and maybe even learn Romanian and/or Greek.
As can be seen, I ramble quite a bit, but I am quite eager as far as being a student is concerned. I unfortunately will likely never be able to attent any sort of linguistics course as my dreams will likely lead me to follow art or architecture instead, but I hope that this guild will be able to help me in that vein.

*Gaia Name: Erin Tringa Real Name: Cheyenne *Age: 18 *Location: Ohio, US *Languages spoken: English and I took four years of Spanish in high school, but it's a bit rusty. I'm also currently studying Japanese and Arabic simultaneously. *Languages Learning: I'm thinking about studying Swahili instead of Arabic starting next fall. I would also like to learn Russian, Esperanto, and Thai. Maybe Wolof, too.
I'm a freshman linguistics student. My end goal is to be an ESL teacher, hopefully at the university level. I really admire the English for All program they have here at my university, and I would love to work at this very institute. If not, I would be willing to teach ESL through the JET program or the Peace Corps. Either way, I'm looking at a study abroad in Japan before I graduate. Although I'm nothing near fluent in any language but my own, I try my best to broaden my horizons.

Good morning/afternoon/evening to all. (Fancy seeing you here, VanillaMatcha! biggrin )
My Gaia username is Seraphine Lunaire, which comes from the name Séraphine (Gaia doesn't allow accented usernames >.<), with the French equivalent of the word lunar after it. My username hence means "Lunar Seraph", and I think I'll keep it for good because I like its sound and meaning.
I prefer not to divulge my real name (oops). It's not a bad name or anything, but I prefer the sound of Sera.
I'll be twenty this year, and at the time of writing this, I'm pursuing a linguistics degree in France (a place that is, for good or ill, not my country).
(The following lists may contain multiple entries of any single language, but that's because a language can easily fall into many categories.)
I speak fluently: + English (the standard I use is based on the British one); + Chinese (Mandarin, but with some turns of phrase that are unique to my country); and + French (of France)
I know a smattering of: + Hokkien (I have a bit of vocabulary and can string some sentences with confidence) + Latin (I know some of the grammatical rules, but cannot string sentences together without Wiktionary on hand) + Modern Hebrew (I finished a short video course, and am seeking additional materials)
I am learning: + Modern Standard Arabic (at the university) + Modern Hebrew (see above)
I would love to dive into (in order of priority): + Classical and Modern Hebrew, Koinè Greek, Latin, Classical Chinese, Teochew, Malay* + Tamil, Kabyle, German, Portuguese, Czech, Aramaic + Swahili, Zulu, Xhosa, Welsh + Polish, Modern Greek + Hungarian, Finnish, Spanish + Sanskrit, Syriac
* This group of seven, on top of my three core languages and Arabic, are the languages (or dialects / varieties) that I want to master, or, at the very least, to be proficient enough to make puns and write poems in. Any assistance I can get will be very much appreciated!

VanillaMatcha Welcome Sera! Are you... a fellow WGer? Is that where you remember me from? :O It's a pleasure to be here! And yes, there was a time when I was active in WG (though not quite as active as some other people can be), and I remember seeing you from time to time.
