"Yes! Yes, I can." Sharkal would wait until the dead of night if it meant having a quick dinner with T'rus. They never got to eat together anymore; it always resulted in the blond eating alone. Better than being picked on all evening, he supposed, but not by much. It always felt like everyone was staring, when you were hunched by yourself.
He mused on the subject for a few minutes, unaware of his friend's turmoil over his potential Impression. In fact, Shark barely noticed when the weyrling addressed him again. "Hmm? What? Oh, yes. Shimmer is a very good flit. Very good. I keep hoping she'll lay another gold egg. And then I'll have two! And can you imagine? We'll be rich." Not I'll be rich. We. Shark had already been sucked into the plan, and was seemingly happy to be so.
He got quiet, all the sudden, green eyes dropping as he shook his head. "No," he muttered, staring at the gravel. "No, no one for you to deal with, T'rus. Everyone's been leaving me alone." They gave him a wide berth. It was exciting, at first....but Shark was actually beginning to miss the thrill of battle, the little high he got from bossing around someone smaller than him.

T'rus had not gotten to where he was today (the unimportant Sr. Weyrling to a brown dragon, but don't tell him that) by ignoring those subtle clues that people gave to their feelings. Like, say, the complete change in posture and tone that Shark had undergone. Yes, T'rus had picked up on that. Wasn't he clever?
Unfortunately, he wasn't sure exactly how to react to said cues. He was relatively certain that Shark was well trained enough not to lie to him, which meant, whatever was bothering him, it wasn't the fact that he was being picked on. And T'rus, being T'rus, couldn't think of anything else that would bother him. He wasn't being beaten on. T'rus was protecting him as promised. And he had T'rus.
What else could Shark possibly want?
A dragon of course!
Okay. No. That made no sense in the context of their current conversation.
Finally, taking a shot in the dark, he decided that the only thing it could possibly be about was him. Of course. "You know, when you impress, it'll be easier for us to spend time together. If only the sharding queen would rise. Either of them." A smirk, "Unless Morgath wants to fulfill his earlier promise, and give us a flight. Useless oversized beast."

"Hmm?" Shark tipped his head to one side, trying to figure out how they'd gotten back onto the topic of Impressing dragons. Weren't they just talking about bullies...? Oh well, he'd go with it. "Well, yes, I guess so, since we'll both be dragonriders and all." The blond was about to suggest their partners might even be friends as well, but he knew better. Akerth didn't seem like he wanted anything to do with Shark; he'd probably eat his dragon. Shards.
The weyrbrat shrugged awkwardly, still reeling mentally a bit from the sudden change topics. Did defending him make T'rus uncomfortable? No, that probably didn't make sense, not when he volunteered. Shark shrugged again to himself, shaking off the strange sensation. He was reading into this way too much.
"Well, until one of those sharding golds Rise, I'm stuck doing chores. Which I need to get back to." The lad whined, much more usual for him, and gave T'rus an amused smirk as he got to his feet. "I'm telling you, though, if those Queens had some men to set them straight, they wouldn't be lazing around their weyrs and getting fat. Someone is going to have to set them straight."
