Latizia sighed and gathered up her skirts, shaking her head. She was going to get out of the ballroom. She headed for the study, that seemed appropriate. Hopefully she would be alone, she certainly needed a breather. Of course she would not be so lucky. She walked in to find one of the girls already doing sinful things with a man she recognized as an officer. She let out a small yelp and closed the door again, quickly turning away and running from the room. She made her way back down the stairs and, unfortunately, in her haste, bumped into a man she recognized as a personal guard of Napoleon's. Of course she had never spoken to any of them, "Je suis désolée, monsieur."

Napoleon noticed Letizia both leave and come rushing back and attributed it to something disturbing her up the stairs, he would ask her later. He saw her bump into Kensington though and decided he was going to watch the Englishman over his current dance partner's shoulder.
Unfortunately, his dance partner quickly noticed she was being ignored and called his attention back.
"Am I boring you, monsieur l'empereur?"
"Hm? No. I apologize." He returned his attention, reluctantly, to the young woman.

A few moments into the first set, Jérôme was already bored of dancing. He was not some woman after all, he was a king. He tried not to heave a sigh at the predicament but it began to come out anyhow. Quite frankly Catharina bored him, but those lovely French ladies on the outskirts of the dance floor were looking very, very interesting. He flashed a few of them a quick smile and ignored how annoyed Catharina seemed. He'd just have to talk to them later.

"Ah yes," Metternich stood, not eager to let the princess out of his sight, "seems it's time for a break from the gardens." He smoothed out his coat and followed close behind.

Kensington frowned at the girl. She looked flustered, he looked over her shoulder worried some lusty french man was chasing after her. When he saw no one he looked back down at the girl. "It's quite all right darling." He said assuming she had apologized for running into him. Looking at her when she was this close he knew he had seen her with Napoleon a few times. She was probably one of his close "friends". Napoleon would be a lucky man to have such a lovely lady as one of his bed friends. "You look troubled." He said soon remembering it was pointless to bother trying to talk to her.

Marie walked quickly. A little faster then what was considered lady like. But she didn't care. That awful man was close behind her, and didn't seem to get the hint she would rather be alone. Retreating inside she made a short walk of the long hall way to her room. She would have to hide there until Metternich left her alone. "Good day sir." Marie said opening her room door.

"Oh, English, of course." Letizia continued on past the minor bump in the conversation by switching over to the language of Napoleon's enemies, "I'm fine, no need to worry about me. Fine fine. I hope you are as well," she glanced behind her and back into the direction she was running, "I apologize for running into you, but I'll be going now. Arrivederci!" She gathered up her skirts again and attempted to walk past the man before her.

----

Napoleon was with a different partner when he looked back, he could swear it happened without his knowledge Sure the act was no changing of the guards but he felt he should still be aware of what was happening around him.
"So my daughter, yes monsieur?" The woman was trying to convince him to marry her daughter, of course.
"Your daughter?" He had to admit he had not heard a word of her prattle, hell he did not know where she came from.
"She's a lovely young girl, smart, good parents, she would make a splendid empress."
"Would she now?" Napoleon was back to watching Letizia attempt to escape Kensington. She spoke English, didn't she? Ha! That should make make him talk! Now, what was his dance partner talking about again?
"So she would be a splendid candidate, yes?"
"Of course, Madame." The politician lied through his teeth, "Every unmarried female here-"
"But my Christina, she will have an advantage, yes?"
"Of course."
The woman smiled, "Perfect." She stopped mid-dance and left, probably to fetch her daughter. Napoleon heaved a sigh and tried to hide his need for massaging his temples. This was certainly going to be a long night.
Metternich had already accepted his proposal, he did not need to deal with these insane women or any of their daughters at all. he chose to. He really just wanted to see Letizia married, or get Kensington to stop being such a p***k, or, maybe he was really unaware of why he was even doing this.

A young girl approached him, with a rather woebegone look as she took his hand, she watched her feet. "Something troubling you, mademoiselle?"
The girl silently shook her head.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded this time.
"You are in a lot of trouble lying to your emperor, mademoiselle." He was teasing but she did not seem to care for it.
He could swear he saw a tear. Oh boy.
"I'm very sorry monsieur, my mother wishes for me to marry you - and I have no qualms with you, on my honor- but, you see, there is, well, I have, um I am in love with another man."
Napoleon suppressed a smirk and pulled her a bit closer, "Now it is my turn for a secret," he leaned in and whispered to the girl, "I, mademoiselle, am already engaged. Your mother and the other women here are wasting their time."
The girl let out a small squeak and the emperor chuckled, "And before the end of the night you give me the name of that lucky young man and I will be certain you are wed to him before the end of the month.
The girl's face lit up and she blushed a bit at her own over-the-top reaction, "Would you, monsieur l'empereur, really?"
Napoleon shrugged, "Well, you certainly can't marry me - It's not you darling, it is I- however, we wouldn't want such a lovely young lady to go to waste, so, I shall be sure you marry him of course."
"Oh merci monsieur!" She stopped him mid-waltz with an overpowering hug and drew all the attention of the room to them.
"It was only a compliment, mademoiselle," Napoleon announced loudly, "no need to be so overjoyed." There was a small murmur of laughs from the crowd and the emperor winked at the girl, "They cannot know for now."
She nodded and blushed madly. She finished a set with him and, through the dance, had spoken wildly about her love, as well as forcing the emperor to spill about his secret marriage.
"Have a happy life, mademoiselle."
"And you, monsieur, the princess is a very lucky woman. I hope she knows."
"I can't imagine she's happy right about now, but, I thank you." He sent her off to her mother and managed to escape the madness for a small moment.

Jérôme strode toward his brother with an obvious smirk and a hint of amusement in his voice as he addressed the emperor, "Well, well, my good man, did you just do something nice for another human being? I dare say that's not quite like you. Are you feeling feverish? Should we stop the dance and call you a physician?"

Metternich sighed, "I'm sorry if you don't like this, milady, but I have to make sure you don't get cold feet and betray your parents, you understand." He put his foot out to stop her door, "But you would not think of something so awful, how rude of me to even think of it."

Kensington looked over her shoulder again, some one had to be after her. She was just too worried about getting away from the stairs. It surprised him slightly she spoke such fluent English. "Well then why don't I accompany you to your next destination. I will make sure you get there safely." Kensington extended his arm for her to take and gave her a pleasant smile.
~ ~ ~ ~

Marie stopped her attempt at shutting her door. It would be more then rude to try and smash Metternich's foot. Though he wasn't being very polite himself. "I will say this once. I will not take actions that will bring such shame to my family. I shall marry the French Emperor and I shall be a dutiful wife." Marie folded her arms under her chest an stood tall. She would feel better if he just left her alone. And even better if she didn't have to get married. "Now will you excuse me, I think I need a rest."

Letizia was skeptical but she placed a gloved hand on his arm anyhow. She held her breath as he guided her along, it was only proper, she knew, to let him lead, but she was worried he might try something funny like making her dance with him or some such nonsense. "I'm only going to the terrace, sir, to get some fresh air."

---

"You may stop the dance at your discretion, signore." Napoleon smiled with his head held high, "I am, for all intents and purposes, already betrothed." He almost walked away before he stopped himself and gave his brother a warning look, "But this, of course, is our little secret brother."

"Wait." Jérôme was not going to let his brother get away that easily, "Don't try to brush me off so easily. Who're you condemning to a lif- I mean," he continued on like he had not, "who's the lucky woman?"

"Of course, madame." Metternich removed his foot, "And of course," he made one final point, "you'll have the good taste not to attempt an escape or some such tom foolery."

Kensington looked over his shoulder one more time and saw no one coming after them. "Well then my lady I shall escort you and keep you company. As you may have guessed, I can't quite communicate well with others." He patted her gloved hand lightly. "But if you tier of me, I will leave you." He intended to make sure she didn't tier of her, after all is she left his company he would be alone.
~ ~ ~ ~

Marie was more then ready to slam the door. "No of course not. Now excuse me." This time she closed the door and didn't wait for him to get another word in.
At best Marie guessed she only had a couple more months of freedom. And she intended to make the best of them. A young maid came to her side a concerned look on her face. "My Lady?" She asked cautiously. Knowing Marie was in a foul mood.
"Astrid, lend me on of your dresses, I think I will be going out." Marie said looking at herself in the mirror and pulling hair pins to let her locks free. "If I dress as a maid and sneak out the palace I might be able to walk the streets alone for a bit. I can't seem to get more then just a moment alone here. Every one is watching me, waiting for me to run off or some thing silly."
The maid did as she was told and left Marie's room to retrieve a dress. Flashing Metternich a quick smile in the hall she moved off to the servant's quarters where she had been letting a couple of her dresses dry.

Letizia looked a bit uneasy. She glanced to the terrace and decided it was close enough that anyone would see if this man decided to try anything. "I suppose that's alright." She allowed him to escort her out and relief washed over her as soon as she was out of that gathering.

---

"Princess of Austria." The older brother remarked pridefully, "Am I a son of a b***h or am I a son of a b***h?" He scoffed, "It's not always about battle strategies, there are other ways to win. Speaking of which," he followed Letizia and Kensington with a glance, "It appears as if an Englishman is about to experience victory. I can't allow that to happen under my nose." He pat his brother on the arm and excused himself.

He walked up behind them rather quietly and when he was close enough to have an impact he spoke, for Letizia, he selected Italian, "Lovely evening, isn't it?"

Letizia nearly jumped out of her skin. She whipped around, releasing Kensington's arm, "Oh Signore," she placed her hand to her chest, "You frightened me."

Napoleon chuckled and nodded toward Kensington, "I nearly forgot you spoke fluent English, Contessa. Perfect, now Kensington has no excuse for not listening to me."

"Of course signore." Letizia gave a small bow of her head and looked up to Kensington.

"Make nice, Napoleone, especially to that poor condemned woman you are forcing into matrimony." Jérôme called after him, sighing as Napoleon escaped out onto the terrace, "And yes, you're definitely a son of a b***h. Come al solito per Napoleone, Comandare é meglio che fottere."

Watching the maid suspiciously, Metternich stayed in the hallway for a few moments before he decided it would be safe to let her be, but not let her alone. He sent one of the female maids to her room to inquire if there was anything the archduchess needed, and of course, to watch her without acting out of the ordinary.

((HAHA! Love it. An yes he is JUST like Hitsugaya. Its' crazy.))

Kensington turned and stared at Napoleon. He heard what he said, but he played dumb. "I'm sorry Madame but can I ask you what he just said? Of course if it is any thing worth repeating."
~ ~ ~ ~

Marie's chamber maid returned quickly with one of her dresses. And Marie was quick to order the girl to help her out of her own evening gown. "Come now. I want one more day of freedom, an I want it for as long as I can have it."
The young Astrid gave Marie a skeptical look but did as she was told. It took little time to get her into the simple maid's dress. "How do I look? Think I can pass as a commoner?"
"I'm not all that sure, you look like you just less fancy." Astrid said stepping back and looking at Marie.
"Well give me a cloak and we shall see if I can make it out with out being recognized." With cloak wrapped around her shoulders and drawn over her head she made her way out of her room and for the front door, possibly to her escape.

"Ah, of course," Napoleon began before Letizia could translate, "if he asks what I just said I called him a dastardly son of a b***h with big ears and an obvious need to overcompensate for his diminutive role in both society and his trousers." He gave them a courteous bow and excused himself.

Letizia gave a small sheepish laugh, "He said to make sure you don't get into any trouble."

After bowing out, Napoleon reentered the party, stopping by another of his personal guard and ordering him to keep an eye on the contessa. Finding that there was a spare moment, Napoleon escaped from the party to find solitude in a drawing room for a moment of peace- and to compose a rather important letter.

((Is teh lazy ghost.))

Jérôme was bored to say the least. He had seen almost all of these women before and he knew he did not want to risk getting too drunk so early. He spotted his brother escaping and decided he would escape with him. He leaned in to his wife's ear and excused himself for a moment to have another chat with Napoleon.
Jérôme snuck away from the party and into the emperor's study, "So this is where we come to escape, big brother?"

Metternich was not just a politician, he was a prince. He watched the archduchess walk toward the door. He sighed and spun on his heels to leave through the back entrance. He made his way out quickly and was able to follow the woman from a distance, and lurk in the shadows behind the girl all day.
