As Shedrawn entered the hall he glanced at all of the other candidates, scanning there faces, while keeping his passably blank, even though he was grinning like a fool inside, I mean who could possibly not be excited about this handsome clutch. He waited for his turn to approach the queen with a stolid outer calm. As the candidate before him went to see the clutch after his tribute to the queen and her weyrwomen, Shedrawn strode forward and bowed deeply to the queen and then her weyrwomen respectfully. This was his first touching might as well make a good impression on the most important people of the event. He strode nervously to the eggs, finally showing a bit of jerkiness in his walk, betraying the turmoil he felt inside.
Alright, first thing's first, he thought as he approached the Deciduous Forest Egg. And he reached out his hand to the smooth shell and just before he touched it, he closed his eyes. His skin made contact with the egg, and he flattened his palm to mold to the curve of the shell. He felt...peaceful...and an echoing feeling of pride, it felt like a pressure he had been under his entire life lifted, his eyes flung open, he genuinely liked the feelings he was having, he felt like this egg was trustworthy and proud of him and the Weyr. Well, Shedrawn quietly cleared his throat, that was different. He moved on but glanced back at the egg, a few times, unsure of what the creature had uncovered in his head.
Shedrawn walked up to the Deep Ocean Eggnext, and less gingerly pressed his palm against it, WHOA he thought and hastilly pulled his hand back from the shear force of urgency emanating off the egg. He glanced around the weyr for imminent danger, then seeing nothing he again touched the egg. Wait, he thought, it wasnt a dangerous urgency it was a happy urgency, amused, he gave the egg a soft smile. You my friend are going to be an awful big handful. Still smiling he walked away careful not to linger too long so as not to upset the queen.
Compared the the other eggs the Taiga was far away, he wondered why that would be. As he reached out and touched it, he found out, the egg just didn't want to be part of the group. Well he could relate to that but the egg gave him a feeling of unease which had him withdrawing his hand quicker than usual and hurrying on his way to the next egg.
He came to the Desert EggThis egg seemed too believe he was there to protect the other eggs and unlike the Taiga was in the midst of things. He liked that it was protecting as it reminded him of himself but he also thought he could feel a sense of judgement coming from the egg, he wasn't sure he really liked that aspect of the eggs personality, but wished it good luck in it's hunt anyway. Its ambition was great but he wondered if he was up to par, probably not but what could he expect. From one ambitious being to the next he bid the egg farewell and strode back toward the rest of the clutch, shaking his head a little, it was like looking in the mirror and not being entirely sure you were impressed with the reelection.
The Lucastrine Egg was next and he touched it gently. He was met immediately with a sense of confusion at the lazy nature the egg showed. Why be lazy when you had so much to do? So much to find out and discover? But wait what was that a glimmer of calculations being run? Still confused Shedrawn waited for the feeling that the calculating was finished but it never did seem to stop underneath all the laziness even as he pulled his hand away. His brow furrowed as he considered the egg while he walked, this might take him all night to figure out.
The Tundra Egg made him feel so good he didn't really want to leave, no secrets from this egg no judging, just a radiating warmth and little else. He wondered if it had anything else in there besides warmth, not that warmth was a bad thing, he was just curious thats all. He left that egg feeling good, like he had just drank some of the best klah there was to be had.
The Alpine Egg in contrast to the others stunned him with its lack of well anything, he looked and looked but could find nothing it was like being between without the bone-chilling cold. He decided he didn't much care for this feeling of nothing and stepped away.
The next egg up was the Prairie Egg. Now this egg was fun to touch, and he repeated the experience twice to see if he would get a different reaction but was met again with the feeling of being with really good company. This creature was a pleasure to be around, he would be happy for the rider who got this dragon.
The Ocean Coast Egg was rolled disturbingly close to the watchful queen and so he approached cautiously, he reached his arm out as far as it would go with the egg between him and the queen but immediately stepped closer to comfort the poor sad creature inside, rubbing his hand over and over on the shell in an attempt to cheer it up. He glanced unhappily at the queen, was there nothing that could cheer the poor thing up. He stared at the shell hoping the dragon would find someone to comfort it among the assembled candidates. He walked away slowly dragging his feet, but continuing to move along, to the final egg.
The Tropical Egg proved to be a fine ending to his first touching, it stimulated him after a while with the feeling of an astounding intelligence and a variation in the feeling every time he touched it. It intrigued him greatly and he felt like he couldn't wait to meet the new dragon with the clever mind.
he walked out of the hatching ground with the big foolish grin plastered onto his face. he could no longer control it but he didn't care to much anymore. This was so exciting!

Her second clutch. Wykla surveyed the eggs clustered together near their gold mother. Was her dragon among them? She was going to find out, but first the touching was now under way. Calmly and slowly, so as not to trip on any uneven sand, Wykla made her way towards the gold. She gave a low bow, “my thanks for allowing us to touch your clutch.”
Straightening, her duty to the queen now fulfilled, she turned to the closest Deciduous Forest Egg. Laying her hand upon the shell, she slowly caressed it. Wykla nodded slowly. She could relate to the egg’s pride. It didn’t seem like a bad pride or malicious. She gave a last pat for the egg then moved on to the next.
Her hand brushed along the Deep Ocean Egg. She almost jerked back and looked around. Wykla was bemused by the happy eagerness of the egg. It certainly had the feeling that it was in a hurry to get some where. That could be alright too. There were places and people to see and watch. She wished it a good rider.
Leaving the urgency of the previous egg behind to find herself facing the Taiga Egg Her brows wrinkled in puzzlement as she pondered the feeling of this egg. It seemed as those it preferred to be left alone. Wykla blinked as the impatience turned slightly hostile while she stood there. Well, it seemed this one had a bad temper. She would certainly watch out for it come hatching time.
Next in her line was the Desert Egg and she didn’t linger over it. While it certainly didn’t hold the hostility of the previous egg, it was not for her. Wykla felt safe in giving it a quick cress before moving on.
The bright flash of color from the Lacustrine Egg captured her eye next. She smirked, fighting the impulse to yawn. What a silly egg. For a moment beneath the laziness, Wykla thought she felt something within sizing her up; adding up the possibilities. Her head shook as she left it to its devices.
Peering under two other eggs, Wykla noticed another egg, the Tundra Egg. She felt sorry for the egg before she touched it. Maybe the queen had gotten them too close. Reaching out her finger tips touched it. Warmth fused up her arm. This seemed to be a dragon who would keep its rider warm on cold nights. Oddly, she felt pleased by that. Reluctantly her fingertips left the shell and the feeling slowly faded.
Onward to the other egg helping to hide the dull gray egg. Wykla was surprised when she touched the Alpine Egg and felt nothing. Several more quick touches don’t bring any further enlightenment. Perhaps it was a secretive dragon. She could understand that. No sense lingering here either.
The next egg provided such a turn around in personality that she stared at the Prairie Egg. It was like the egg would throw a party and anyone, everyone was welcomed. She wasn’t so sure about having all that company. Wykla was sure its rider would give it lots of attention.
Taking stock of her position and a deep breath, it seemed only a couple eggs remained. The next to last egg appeared to be the smallest of the clutch. Ocean Coast Egg gave off a sense of sadness when she touched the shell. How could it be so sad so early? Wykla was baffled and sorry for the little dragon inside. Hopefully it would cheer up on hatching day. Several more pats later and she felt it time to move on.
Wykla laid her hand upon the Tropical Egg and tilted her head. The intelligence of the egg suggested the dragon inside might be cooking up mischief. It also appeared to have the willingness to try such antics. She hoped the rider would be able to keep a firm hand on it.
Finished at last it was time to leave. Wykla turned and gave the queen another bow before leaving the sands. It was time for her to find a quiet spot and ponder what she’d felt. Did she think any of those eggs might hold a match for her?

Zeren moved to the Desert Egg he had to reach down to it because it was at the bottom, he wasn't sure what to make of this egg, but he smiled and gave it a gentle stroke, "Yours is out there, you will just have to find them". He moved to the next egg, the Lacustrine Egg upon touching it, he felt rather tired, and stifled a small yawn. "Don't be so slow to find Yours, it would be awful if you didn't find them" he thought, worried about this one. Moving onto the next egg he felt a little better the Tundra Egg gave him a sense of warmth, something he wanted to hold onto but he forced himself to move onto the next one.

Anya waited with crossed arms as those in front of her made their way onto the sands - she was later then she'd wanted to be, and now she had to wait behind all these other candidates..half of whom shouldn't even be allowed to stand in her opinion, dragonrider's should be born in Weyrs..not recruited brought in from holds, it was clear to her that stronger riders came from rider blood..but she sighed, there wasn't anything she could do about this particular problem...and she didn't even want to get into the whole debacle with the ancient crafter..not when there were eggs to meet, if the others would hurry the heck up.
Finally it was Anya' turn and she marched confidently onto the sands, bowing low to the Gold a was custom before moving out amidst the eggs. The first egg she got to was the Deciduous Forest Egg whose sense of pride spoke out to her 'you ought to be proud' she thought to the little dragon 'you are beig born to the greatest Weyr on pern' he concluded before moving on to the next.
The Deep Ocean Egg was almost a shock after the one before it and Anya pulled her hand away quickly, whomever got that little dragon was going to be in for a hectic life that for sure, probably more hectic then they really wanted! shaking her head a bit she continued to make her circuit of the clutch.
The Taiga Egg made her walk a few steps off from the others and upon putting her hand on it Anya had to chuckle a bit 'I quite agree' She thought to the little egg 'Theres some of the other candidates i'd rather not mingle with myself' She told the egg and then respecting the Candidatemasters orders no to liner she moved on.
The Desert Egg looked to me a brown or a bronze by size so Anya knew it was unlikely that the egg would be looking for someone like her and upon placing her hand on it to feel the protective nature of the Dragonet inside she was pretty confident it was a bronze so she merely sent it some respectful thoughts and moved on - no sense lingering at an egg meant for the boys after all.
The next egg in line was the Lacustrine Egg and unlike it's bright shell Anya got the sense that the little dragon inside was a quiet little one, she wasn't sure if this was good or bad - she supposed it could swing both ways and after a few moments of trying to get more of a feeing for the dragon within she moved on.
The tiny egg that was next in line was a dull color and upon touching the Tundra Egg Anya had to admit that the hells dull color matched the lack of emotion or personality she sensed inside. She wondered if this dragonet was simply laid back..or still trying to figure out who they were in any case she sent it some pleasant thoughts and moved on.
The next egg was the Alpine Egg and upon touching it Anya started to wonder at the oddness of this clutches personalities- on one hand you had the energetic fellow at the beginning ..and then you had this handful of laid back feeling ones. Still pondering this she sent the dragonet some respectful thoughts and moved on.
Prairie Egg was the one Anya hit up next and once again in contrast to some of the other eggs this one seemed to desire the attention of the Candidates and Anya spent some time indulging the egg with a few strokes before moving on.
the next egg she came upon was the smallest egg in the clutch, the tiny Ocean Coast Egg and upon touching the egg Anya felt the dragonets sadness and even she was a touch moved by it, no one liked to see a sad dragon, especially a baby and she sent it some comforting thoughts before moving on.
The last egg on her circuit was the Tropical Egg and Anya got the sense it inside was a cleaver little fellow who enjoyed playing games - like it's energetic clutch mate Anya had a feeling this one would prove to be quit a handful for whomever he or she impressed, in any case she patted the lat egg gently before leaving the sands behind the other candidates.

Moving on he touched the Alpine Egg next, "you're another that wants to be left alone then, alright but find Yours when the time comes" he thought, giving it one last swift stroke. Next up was the Prairie Egg and Zeren smiled, compared to the last one, this was much more welcoming, "well aren't you friendly, Yours should be quite friendly too, to keep up with you" he thought at the egg, hoping that it could hear him. The Ocean Coast Egg made him feel rather sad, and he stroked it alot rather than just resting his hand on it. "don't be sad, we're here to welcome you, Your is waiting out here somewhere to love you" he thought towards the tiny egg. Last was the Tropical Egg and he laughed silently, "well, you're ... fun loving aren't you" he smiled, his hand lingering a little.
Well, he'd touched all of the eggs, and he bowed low to Ianath, "Thank you for allowing me to touch your eggs, i hope they all hatch well and find theirs quickly" he thought, hoping she would hear him. His legs feeling a little weak from the enormity of it, he walked off the sands and towards his barracks, where his flits were waiting.

Though it was her first Touching, Allia made no great affair of it. While she waited her turn, she watched the other candidates, almost as interested in them and what they were doing as she was the eggs themselves. The array of interactions was fascinating - some said nothing, others spoke to the eggs, and one boy even hugged an egg. Were they allowed to do that? She supposed so, since no one seemed bothered, but...
Saving the thought for later, she bowed to the Queen and moved on to touch the eggs. She started with the one closest to Ianath, then the one closest to that, and so on until she was finished. Allia lingered on no egg, save to give the Ocean Coast egg a little pat, and said nothing to them, out loud or otherwise. She simply touched each one in turn, taking enough time to get a feel for them...and for them to get a feel for her, hopefully.

Another Hatching! The Flight had been something spectacular from Ianath and Pazzult, like quite a few other weyrfolk, had been affected by the flight. Not neccessarily in a bad way. In fact, the company he kept that day had lasted off and on for a few weeks. Stopping in front of the gold, he bowed slowly and gave his grin. No words, they would annoy her.
Stepping lightly, the weaver boy moved over to the Deciduous Forest Egg. Pazzult rubbed the egg and laughed. "You seem to be the prideful one. Full of yourself or you just know where you want to be? And that is out of the egg, yes?"

Rene was not afraid.
Fear was a disgusting, weak emotion that was worhtless. Fear kept you from doing things, and it was somethign that little weepy, girly holdgirls felt. Men weren't afraid of new things, and Rene would not be either. The compulsive worrying of the sleves of her gown? Excitedness. The rumbling in her stomach, and the nausea that accompanied with it? Too much Klah at breakfast. Rene was, assuredly, not afraid.
It was just that things were so different here in the Weyr. She'd eyed the clutch and the great dragon that guarded it with some suspicion, but when the first few candidates didn't get viciously mauled, she decided it wasn't all a trap for dullglow holdgirls. Rene eyed the queen nervously, biting her lip. No, these nerves were not at all acceptable. The Smithcraft girl took in a deep breath and marched up when it was her turn. She kept her head held high, trying to show no one that she was, indeed, terrified.
"'Lo, Ianath. S'nice clutch you got here. Mind iffen I touch?" Rene asked after a bow to the Gold. When she wasn't mauled horribly, Rene took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and reached out to touch the egg. Would she feel anything, or was what she'd been told just a Harper winter tale?
The Deciduous Forest Egg was much like she'd expected an egg to be: Warm and hard, slightly thrumming with the 'small' lifeform inside of it. And then, something... Different. She felt it, but not with her hands. It seemed to resonate within her somehow. A simple, honest pride. She knew the feeling well, and Rene smiled. She felt a bit more relaxed, stroking the egg a bit more to see if she could feel anything else. It felt a bit... Grounded. Down to earth. A bit practical, maybe? It felt like a good, solid dragon. Not as apprehensive, Rene gave it a final pat.
After the relaxed egg, Rene confidantly put her hand on the Deep Ocean Egg. She jerked it back at the feeling, obviously surprised. She took a deep breath, turning a bit red in the cheeks and hoping that no one had seen. She put her hand back on the egg firmly. It felt... Very rushed. To her, it felt young, and excited, much like a happy canine who was eager to herd the beasts. Very eager to please. Not a bad thing, just... Very not like herself. It took all kinds to make a Weyr, however, and Rene couldn't fault it for being happy.
Situated a bit of a walk away, the Taiga Egg was nothing like the previous two. This egg felt downright hostile. Rene frowned and continued to touch, seeing if there was any other feeling. Nope. More anger, impatience, and it really didn't like her the more that she stood there. She scrunched her mouth to one side, looking at the egg's shell. What, did you think you were queen of the bitches? You weren't a queen, so you'd have to get used to being a dragon, little miss!
And the next egg was a right large b*****d, wasn't he? Rene touched the Desert egg and 'listened' inside. Hmph. Were you judging her, little egg? Everyone did. Look good and long, you wouldn't find anything deeper than what you got at first opinion. She doubted the egg would like her, and touched it longer out of spite. She smiled at it, gave it a pat, and walked towards the next in good spirits.
After the judging egg, the Lacustrine Egg was next on the list. While the outside was pretty, it felt lazy inside. Just like most women. What a coincidence! Still, she kept her hand on it to see if she could feel anything beneath that. Nope, just laziness. Maybe a bit of a b***h inside. Assuredly like a woman. Rene shook her head and depearted to the next egg.
What a tiny, tiny egg. Rene looked at the Tundra egg and noted it's size. Maybe onna them ay-tips? Perhaps! The girl touched it to see if it would feel different. No, not really. Kind of warm feeling. Which was a damned weird feeling when you thought about it. Really. Warm. Inside of herself. She wasn't sure if it was actually a feeling, or if she'd just had too much food for lunch and was feeling the after effects. Eh. Whatever. To the next conquest!
And what would you feel like, Lacustrine Egg? ... ... ... Nothing. Absoloutley nothing. Great. That was informative. Maybe it was dead inside? That was always a possiblity. Maybe it would get broken on the sands and a dead baby dragon would fall out? That'd be interesting! Whatever.
Oh, and weren't you a chatty Cathy? The Prairie Egg sure seemed to like being touched! Probably a boy or something. Rene patted it, and it seemed to have a brief flare of dislike every time. Perhaps because she was sandy and sweaty and gross? Whatever. Get used to it, dragon. It was hot out.
To touch the Ocean Coast egg, one had to brave the queen. Oh well. So she might get mauled. Whatever! Hopefully she wouldn't, Father wouldn't like that. Rene murmured something reasuring towards the queen, caressing the egg. Sure was a tiny one. Tiny and meek. Probably a ay-tip. Still, it was a nice enough egg. Hold on there, little buddy!
Ah, finally. The last one. The Tropical egg seemed to be a bit... interesting. Bright and fun on the outside, mixed up on the inside. Every touch seemed to change to something different, but it didn't feel malevolent behind all of that. Huh. Interesting! This one would actually be one she'd keep an eye on during the hatching, to see what it would spawn.
Her business on the sands done, Rene headed off towards the edge. It was time for a shower and a change of clothes.
