Kahiau truly believed what he said. He had heard all sorts of stories from his mother about how looks could be deceiving. A wolf in sheeps clothing, if you would, or even a sheep in wolf's clothing! Sometimes creatures were shunned and turned away just because they looked different or frightening, and . . .what did Kaiya say? . . . that sometimes it was all that rejection that made them bitter or mean.

Everyone deserved love, even if they were wicked. Because sometimes the wicked just didn't know any better or differently. Kahiau figured if he never was loved by anyone, he'd be a pretty grumpy fellow too! Impressionable as he was, the young colt had decided that he would do his best to be a good fellow, and try to love and care for everyone he met! Of course, he knew the rules when it came to bad guys and was certain he was smart enough to know when he was getting tricked or fooled. . . .but surely his new friend didn't elicit any sort of feelings like that!

She was shy and nice and gentle.

And had big teeth.

Kahiau blinked as his friend finally walked out and showed herself. So that was why she was hiding! Those teeth were amazing! "Oh wow," he breathed, a big smile crossing his features. "You're much, much prettier now that you're not hiding in a bush!" And that was the absolute truth. She had very pretty pale eyes, and so she had some sharp teeth, now that he could see all of her he was glad she had shown himself to her! "Those are impressive teeth, you know. . . I wish I had some like that." He gave a wistful sigh, taking a moment to imagine what it might be like to have fangs. Sharp teeth were awfully cool to the little foal! "But don't you worry, my buddy won't be put off, nope! He's a good lil' guy and . . . I'll be honest . . . is kind of shy too! Because he's pink! And a lot of times he gets picked on by others cause pink isn't a good color for a boy. Or so I heard. I know I happen to like pink. . . not as much as yellow but . . .I'd wear pink no problem!"

Did he ever shut up? Apparently not. Giggling some, not at all put off by Suppi's appearance, he looked down at his flowers and gave a firm nod. "This will look really nice on you," he stated proudly, puffing out his chest. Giving his tail a happy wag, the little colt glanced around before giving a little whistle. "Suzu! I need help with somethin'. . . . Suuuuzuuu . . ." Looking back over at the black female, he gave another little giggle. "It'll just be a minute. Sometimes he's off napping." As far as Kahiau was concerned, everything was cool between them. He had no issue with her teeth, even if they were might unique and the biggest teeth he'd ever seen! It didn't occur to the little colt that maybe that was why she was so shy. To the young angeni, all he saw was a shy filly . . . he didn't think of all the trauma that sporting such big teeth could bring!

Wait - what?

Suppi stared at the Angeni foal in an incredulous manner as he was finally granted the opportunity to see her from head to hoof. While she had expected some form of shock and had definitely expected fear, she had not anticipated what could only be regarded as the exact opposite. As opposed to pulling a face and making his excuses to leave, he had informed her that she was even prettier - it was so completely unexpected and implausible that she could do nothing more than gawk, her lips parting just a touch.

She fought hard to regain what little composure she did have, her expression growing owlish the more he spoke. This was not what she had expected, while her mother had always informed her that she was pretty and her father had always told her there was 'nothing wrong' with her, she'd never met someone who seemed to agree. She'd realised from a young age that both parental figured were biased in that respect, but to meet an outsider... It was almost too good to be true, she resisted the urge to pinch herself just in case it was a dream.

Suffice to say, her teeth really did hurt.

"You don't want teeth like mine," she murmured shyly, her hooves shuffling a little on the spot as she shifted her gaze down. She made no move to run behind the bush and hide again, but it was clear she wasn't entirely sold on the idea that he thought she was pretty. He was being polite and nice, like her parents, she couldn't ask for any more than that. So, maybe this really did mean she had a friend? A real one, not just one she imagined she would like!

"But I like pink," she added after a few moments and shook her head. "I've seen pink boys before, it's not a girl colour," she continued and cleared her throat. She made no reference to the fact that said 'boys' hadn't realised she was nearby, but the little filly had observed her fair share of soquili, even from the shadows. "But I think you'd suit yellow more, pink wouldn't compliment your coat as much," she added shyly.

She hesitated.

"I promise I won't scare him, but if he's frightened I'll hide again, okay?" she offered and coiled her tail nervously round her leg. Really, she wouldn't blame the raccoon if it shrieked and ran away again, it wouldn't be the first time it happened. However, she would give Kahiau the benefit of the doubt for now, he hadn't lied yet so...maybe he was right and the raccoon wouldn't get upset around her. Regardless, she'd make sure to keep her distance just in case.

If Kahiau noticed Suppression's surprise, he didn't make comment. In reality, her huge eyes and uncertainty went right over his head. Why should someone be surprised at his compliments? Everyone has qualities that are worth admiring, and in Suppi's case she was all sorts of awesome! Not only was her coat super black, but her teeth were absolutely fantastic! He'd never met a friend who had as many sharp teeth as she seemed to possess, or her awesome tail. Really, she was a lot cooler than he was, especially with her ability to be so sneaky!

Poor Kahiau just didn't understand what it was like to be made fun of on a daily basis, or at least screamed at in fear. And he was far too little to truly grasp the concept that she did suffer at the cruelties of the world and judgement. His mother had always taught him not to judge, and Kahiau had taken such advice and ran with it. It took a lot of the little naive colt to grasp the darkness of the world around him. He knew of badguys and meanies, and knew some predators out there might try to hurt him but there were subtler points of life he missed. Like being made fun of because someone looked different.

Looking up at his new friend, the little colt beamed at her. "Well, I still think your teeth are really neat, even if mine will never grow that big." He showed his own teeth at her, just to prove his point, before glancing over his shoulder. Where on earth was Suzu anyway?

Pink . . .pink . . . pink . . . . "Nah, you won't have to hide anymore. He's really friendly when I can get him to come out and help me. Suuuuzu!" He ended up giving a little whistle, though it wasn't a very good whistle at all. Still, the noise seemed to do the trick and a small rustling could be heard in the nearby leaves. "Here is is. Suzu, this is my new friend . . uh. . .um. . ." Woah, woah, woah! Hold the phones. Silver eyes lit with surprise and he turned back towards the ebony female, giving a little laugh. "I . . I don't think I know your name yet. You can still keep it secret, if you want, but . . .this is Suzu anyway."

Scurrying out from the nearby bushes and from behind Kahiau came a strange looking raccoon. He was a pale sort of pink, with darker pink striping upon his fur. He wasn't nearly as large as some of the racoons out there, but he did stand on his hind legs to get a better look at this nameless friend.

Chittering softly, the little colorful racoon approached Suppi, reaching out with his little nose to give her a good sniff. His whiskers quivered some, and with another little chirr of welcome, he bolted beneath her legs and back around to where the flowers lay before Kahiau. While the little raccoon wasn't entirely sure he was comfortable about what he saw, but he knew for a fact that Kahiau's mother wasn't far. As a good familiar, he had gone straight for Kaiya the minute he'd caught sight of those teeth. While the filly had looked harmless, especially with her head in a bush, he couldn't help but worry that perhaps the parents wouldn't be so welcoming.

Thankfully, that was Suzu's little secret.

"Anyway, Suzu, can you help tie up these flowers all nice? I wanna make her a necklace!" Kahiau nosed the flowers a bit closer to Suzu, hoping the little racoon would use his deft paws to work his magic. Hooves really weren't that great when it came to tying stems together. More often than not, he had found his precious flowers trampled or broken whenever he tried, so for now, he depended on his little friend.

Kahiau fidgeted a bit with excitement as he waited for the necklace to be done. Looking back over to his silver-eyed friend, he gave a little grin. "I hope you like it. I've never made a friend a necklace before. . . but. . . you're really my first friend. Everyone else I'm around is bigger than me, and my family. So I guess they don't really count. And. . and I can make you more if these wilt, you know, so you won't ever have to run out." It was something he'd be more than happy to assist her with, provided he got to see her again.

Where were her manners? How could she have forgotten to introduce herself! Her expression became sheepish and incredibly embarassed at the revelation... He had given her his name, he'd even introduced his friend but she, well, she had ensured that she kept her identity a secret. It would have been safe to assume that this hesitance could be put down to the fact that she had anticipated he would bolt immediately. However, she'd given him multiple attempts to run and he hadn't - by all standards, an introduction should have been warranted on that alone!

"Suppi," she replied shyly and shuffled her hooves. Neither parent had informed her of her full name, for the simple reason that Nyx was too sweet and Sylph didn't approve of it. Suppi was sweeter and was a true indication of Suppression's nature as opposed to her full name. Thus, as a foal she was largely unaware of her true identity and why she had been graced with such a name.

...Probably for the best really.

"It's Suppi," she repeated, clearing her throat a little. It felt a little foreign to introduce herself, so many had run from her that she was unused to it, but, Kahiau deserved to know who she was. He'd proven himself more than once in the space of such a short encounter and he was entitled to know - perhaps his desire to have a friend was a sentiment that was echoed. If she was his first friend then maybe, just maybe, she would make that risk and he could be her first friend too.

Nevertheless, the filly did give a squeak of surprise as Suzu revealed himself and even went so far as to cower from him as he inspected her. The sniff here and there was one thing, but to run completely under her legs was enough to give her a jolt! Fortunately he seemed neither harmful or malicious and soon set to work on the flowers, evidently deciding that her presence could be tolerated - it made a change for the little filly!

It was enough to make her hazard a tiny smile.

"I'd like that," she said finally, in relation to his offer to make her more necklace and surprisingly, she really did like the idea of it. More unusually, she even believed that the offer was believable and plausible - if he wanted to make her more necklaces then she was starting to think that he really would! "So long as you have time that is, and you don't have to meet anyone else," she added. She'd be loathe to stop him from socialising with any other friend he made!

Suppi. Her name was Suppi. "Suppi! That's a great name, and fun to say! I can't wait to tell my Mom about you, being my very first friend and all." The little colt heaved a content sight, his wings flaring a bit as he committed the name to memory. He wouldn't be a very good friend if he forgot her name as soon as he left, nope! Thankfully though, she was hard to forget, and her name was now special to him.

Watching as Suzu worked his magic, tying the short stems of the flowers together, Kahiau looked back over at his friend. Silver eyes bright with good humor, he gave a little laugh and shake of his head. "Oh, I'd love to make you necklaces and crowns! My older brother, Sirian, he dun' like them very much and I think thinks I'm silly for making 'em. So it'll be nice to make them for someone who 'preciates them!" Nodding fervantly, his joy was quite obvious. So he was a crafty little fellow when it came to flowers . . .some changed the world, others made necklaces. He was part of the latter crowd.

"I know my Mom likes to travel, but we're staying around this area for awhile cause I'm too little. So maybe I can see you some more, even when I gotta go home. That way you can get more necklaces and I can find more flowers. We could go adventuring together, if you wanted." His little tail wagged again as he implored his friend, hoping she might agree to such a thing. He'd never had a friend before, and he didn't want her to forget about him after they parted ways.

Why oh why couldn't friends stay together forever? He worried some about having to go back to his mother. What if he never met Suppi again? What if her family was only in the area for a little while? Think of all the gifts he wanted to give her that he would be unable to! Think of the tragedy!

Suppi would have been a filly who would have declared it might be a plausible idea to change the world with flowers. Of course, in reality, there would be many who disputed this but they had never seen these flowers. Alas, the filly could do nothing more than watch Suzu with unrestrained interest, her ears flicking and twitching in accordance with everything that her new friend said. By the sounds of it, Kahi's family was significantly larger than her own - for the most part she only had her mother, with fleeting visits from a male she deemed her 'father'.

"You can't travel when you're little?" she pondered over this for a short while, her mind casting back to the blurred and obscure memories she possessed. Somewhere, deep down, she remembered being nudged and coaxed along as a newborn - it had been during these moments that she had met her mother. It was puzzling to her as to why a baby couldn't travel for these reasons, but then again, neither Sylph or Nyx had never regarded it as necessary to know why she had been moved.

She shook her head.

"My mother doesn't travel around much," she confessed and turned her milky gaze back to Kahi. "Only time we move is for breakfast an' dinner, otherwise we just stay put," she cleared her throat and then released a sigh. "Folks don't really like us, they're not all that mean around mother but they're..." she trailed off and shook her head again - it wasn't important.

"I don't think we could explore together, others would tell you off for it," she murmured, though a tiny part of her craved that sense of adventure. If she could have partaken without fear of prejudice she would have packed her suitcase then and there!

Kahiau listened to his friend, glancing away from her only when he wanted to peek over Suzu's shoulder. For the most part though, the silver eyed colt kept his gaze permanently fixed on Suppi, listening to her every word and his friendship growing with every passing minute. He was very proud to call the ebony filly his friend and wanted nothing more than to tell his mother all about it!

"Nope. I mean . . I can travel a little bit, but Mom has to go all over the world she does. And sometimes she meets bad guys and mean folks who might try to eat me or worse! So 'til I get bigger and stronger, we're gonna be here for awhile. And . . . and if you and your Mom don't travel much, then that means we really CAN become best-friends!" The logic was so simple it had Kahiau absolutely beaming in joy. His little blue and white tail swished in excitement, causing his rump to wriggle some, and he had to resist stamping his hooves happily. He didn't want to step on Suzu or worse, the flower necklace!

Still, Kahiau's smile faded somewhat as Suppi admitted that folks didn't much like them. He couldn't possibly fathom why that was the case. "They don't like you?" He admitted incredulously, eyes going wide and confusion written all over his features. He truly was a naive little colt, but his upbringing hadn't exactly been typical of a soquili. He knew that all skinwalkers were bad news, and kalona could be mighty evil but . . . .he also knew that sometimes appearances could be deceiving. Unfortunately for Kahi, he really hadn't put two-and-two together that Suppi's sharp teeth and tail could be used against her in such a cold-hearted fashion.

"Well, I'm really sorry to hear that folks can be so mean." He frowned some, stepping away from the raccoon and his flower necklace, his dual sets of wings flaring lightly in irritation. "But even if they might not like you, I promise to always be your friend, yep! And I don't go breaking promises either," he admitted, puffing out his chest proudly. While some may have taken his words lightly, Kahiau still believed in the power of such things. A promise was a promise, after all, and that was something sacred in his books! "You're really nice, you know, and I'm very glad to have met you today!" He nodded once more before his smile returned in full force.

"I think the only reason we couldn't explore was if you didn't want to . . . Otherwise let other's talk! My Mom wouldn't mind at all, nope, and I think it would be a lot more fun to have a friend explore with me than to be all alone. We could go all over and find all sorts of adventures, just like friends do in the stories I've heard. But even if you don't wanna go . . I . . .I hope we can still hang out." He did add, in case she wasn't much interested in exploring. Some folks didn't like wild antics after all.

Topics of conversation surrounding her appearance always made her uncomfortable, which often made it ironic that she was usually the one to bring it up. Then again, it was very rare that she ever had to give much explanation beyond showing what she looked like, most other foals simply understood and as a consequence, gave her a very wide berth. The longer they dwelled on the topic the more apparent it became to her that Kahiau had been raised in an environment quite unlike any foal she had ever encountered before - after all, it wasn't every day that you encountered another who was completely and utterly clueless to the judgemental and prejudice ways of others!

"I look scary," she said at last and shook her head. There was no use in hiding it, he was trying so hard to be understanding and the willingness in the colt's eyes was evident. If she wanted to be his friend there had to be an element of trust there, right? She would take that gamble and tenatively step forward, the worst that could happen was that he saw the 'light' and changed his mind. "I have big teeth that could hurt others and I have to eat meat," she continued and stared down at her hooves, it was at this point that she shuffled them uncomfortably.

"Others don't like how the tiny animals scream when they get caught," she whispered awkwardly before looking up abruptly. "I don't either!" she added quickly and furrowed her brow, "Mother and I don't like it so we try to eat fish, they don't make such horrible sounds," she continued. Regardless of what she said though, it always boiled down to the fact that unlike Kahi, she had to kill in order to survive - where he could eat the grass, she needed something much more substantial.

"So everyone thinks that we enjoy it and that we're going to hurt others, including them," she finished sadly and pulled another face, her milky gaze crinkling a touch. If anything, her discomfort was an indication of the inaccuracies of the assumptions of the general populace, it wasn't as if she had asked to be a carnivore.

"You can change your mind if you want," she spoke up again after considerable delay, smiling uncomfortably as she returned her gaze to the angeni colt. "I wouldn't mind, I'd understand, it's not as if you knew or anything when you first bumped into me," she continued. Alas, it seemed that Suppi was destined to live a life in which she frequently provided others with additional opportunities and get-out clauses to pretend they had never met her.

"That's why I can't explore with you," she sighed, puffed out her cheeks and seemed to regather her composure. "Otherwise other creatures would be mean to you for being near someone like me and they might hurt you," she clarified. Unlike Kahi, she did know of the more grim aspects of society and if there was one thing she never wished to drag anyone into, it was that. "But if you ever go exploring and come back, you could always tell me about where you went," she added with a touch of wistfulness to her tone.

"Well I mean...that's if you wanted to, you could be busy," she murmured, clearly missing Kahi's numerous little promises to remain her friend. Well, it was either that, or she was attempting to give him another attempt to run away just in case the further revelations had given him second thoughts!

Kahiau's ears pricked and his brow knit in concentration as she talked. The reason that they couldn't explore together was because she . . .looked scary? Given, the colt understood that having such massive fangs was a pretty unique look, and wasn't entirely normal. He understood that sharp fangs were often portrayed as being frightening and meant the owner was probably a predator. But . . . . But Suppi was the least scary soquili he'd ever met! She hid in bushes and was kind of shy and easily spooked.

. . . how could anyone ever define his new friend as scary? Sure, she had a kalona tail and fangs but . . . . that didn't mean anything. His mother had told him about some nicer kalona, and had even told him about some really mean sorts that looked like unicorns! And unicorns were meant to be healers~! Assumptions weren't good, especially when it was based purely on looks.

Giving a small shake of his head, Kahiau puffed out his chest. "I know you eat meat. I mean . . . wolves have sharp teeth and they eat meat. Bears eat meat too . . .and panthers and coyotes and lots of animals eat meat! Sure that means they have to sometimes kill but . . . but Mama said that doesn't make them anymore our enemy. They need to eat too, after all. And . . . and plants are alive too, ya know. They may not talk and may not run but they still have families with little flowers, and I . . . I eat them a lot. Especially the sweet ones," he admitted quietly, his ears flattening some in just a touch of guilt. Yes, he was very much a plant killer.

"My mama, she's friends with some kalona ya know. They're not mean ones though, they're nice! She knows a lot of mean ones, that would try to eat me and I gotta be careful of them, but the other ones are good. And they eat meat too, just like you!" Beaming up at his new friend, he added happily, "So it's ok that you gotta eat things, yep! Isn't that right, Suzu?"

There was a small chitter, though it was obvious that the little raccoon was still intent on his work. He neither denied nor confirmed the statement, too busy tying together ends of flowers to get involved in any conversation about ethics and morals of soquili kind.

"See? So you and me, we'll go 'sploring together. And if others are mean to me, well, then they'll be mean and I won't care. I bet they'll just be jealous that we're having fun and they're not!" It made perfect sense to Kahiau and he gave a firm nod of his head. "This way you can come with me . . And we'll have lots of fun! I promise, we'll be best friends. . . but only if you want to be." He added, his little tail wagging in delight.

You know, Kahiau had a very peculiar way of seeing the world. The more the young filly was exposed to this, the more she began to well...hope. He was one who clearly possessed a very open mind and whoever his mother was, she sounded truly wonderful. Anyone who would raise their child to be more accepting of that which they didn't understand was worthy of more than just a little respect. If anything, Suppi found the prospect of being exposed to one so nice to be positively terrifying.

She knew benevolent and she knew kind, that was how her 'mother' and 'father' were; but Kahiau's mother? Something told the small filly that she would be overwhelmed by her and would spend most of her time hidden in the shrubs to avoid her holy gaze! After all she had to be some sort of angel, right?

Slowly, the filly shook her head as she tried to settle her nerves and dismiss Kahi's fanciful ideas. The opportunity for exploration and adventure were all too appealing to the filly who knew she would spend most of her life in hiding. His promise to stay with her, to be her friend and to ignore what all the mean folk said was pleasant but it still didn't mean he wouldn't get hurt and that was something she wouldn't allow.

...After all, you didn't let your friends get hurt, now did you?

"I - I can't let you get hurt," she murmured uncertainly and then offered one of her better smiles, timid at best, but still there. "B-but I'd like to be your friend, I would like that a lot," she confirmed shyly and cleared her throat. "But since you're the only one I have you can't get hurt k? Cause if you do I'll be sad and then no one will come back and tell me stories..."

The little colt blinked at his new friend, as she spoke her quiet entreaty. Get hurt? The little stallion couldn't exactly understand why anyone would hurt them, other than them being Bad Guys, and being silly. She was his friend, and just a filly, and so what if she had lots of pointy teeth? She was shy and sweet and had been nothing but friendly, even if she liked to hide in bushes. Clearly, anyone that would want to hurt her, was a Bad Guy, and Kahiau was determined to make sure he stood between her and them. Yes, the naive little colt was certain all they needed was a good talking to, a flower crown, and a reminder to find peace.

"Aw, I promise. I won't get hurt!" He puffed out his chest, tried to look just a little bigger, a little more imposing than his small, gangly form would allow. Still, he beamed at her all the same, and could not contain his excitement at this official announcement of their friendship. They would be friends, and he would be sure to bring her flower crowns everyday. And they could explore the world, and he would keep her from getting hurt, oh yes. . .

Such was his grand plan.

"We'll be best friends, and I'll show you the whole forest. I won't make you sad. . . just lots of flower crowns!" Suzu had just put the finishing touches on the flower crown, before Kahiau, in his excitement, reached down and nabbed the pretty little flower necklace. "Thish ish uh necklish though," he muttered through his delicate hold of the jewelry. He held it out to her proudly, allowing her to inspect it to her little hearts content.

"Jusht for you." He murmured proudly, his fluffy tail waggling excitedly behind him. Oh, he hoped she'd like the finished produce. It would look so nice against her black coat!

Youth and naivety had their advantages as the young filly seemed to accept his declaration and oath. He would keep himself safe (he'd said so) and she would have a friend! She wasn't quite as worldly as she thought she was and had no idea that things were never quite that simple, but for now the young filly was satisfied and her little heart warmed. For the first time in quite a while, she felt that little gurgle of pleasure in her stomach which she had been told was happiness.

It was a weird feeling, a little shocking, but all together not unpleasant at all. In fact, she quite liked the way it made her feel and for a time she forgot that days ended, nights drew in and ultimately parents came to collect their offspring. As the hours dwindled on her time with Kahi would come to an end, but for now, there was still light left in the day and Nyx wouldn't be along to collect her for a little while yet.

...Or was it Sylph who would be taking her to dinner today?

She wasn't sure.

Nevertheless her thoughts regarding meal time were dismissed swiftly as he picked up the 'completed' flower necklace and held it out for inspection. Suffice it to say that her mouth gaped somewhat and she was dazzled by the colours for a time. It was just so pretty, she'd seen flowers on the ground before but this time she could wear them! It was only after she had placed her nose to the petals to give them a sniff, that she finally slipped her neck through the hole so that she could wear the flowers as they were meant to be.

"They're so pretty," she cooed gratefully, a rare smile reaching her lips as she turned her gaze to Kahi and then Suzu. "Your paws are magical!"

The pink raccoon looked inordinately pleased at the compliment, puffing out his little chest and giving a little chitter at Suppression, as if he telling her his secrets. And he was pleased with the results, staring up at the little filly who now donned his hard work. . . . It was good work, and the raccoon was only too happy to indulge Kahiau's flowery interests. He'd seen some of the work Kahiau could do, and while it wasn't terrible, it was much more streamlined with the raccoon's aid.

"They look even prettier with you wearing them!" Kahiau admitted gleefully, his little blue and white tail wagging excitedly behind him. "Now we just have to get you a flower crown to match, which I'm sure we can - - "

There was a rustling in the woods, though it was a bit far off. Both Suzu and the colt's ears pricked, and he paused, glancing over to where the movement could be heart. In fact, what was strange, was the faintest tinkling of bells that could be heard on the breeze. It was soft, and lasted only a moment, but it was there all the same.

Suzu chittered excitedly and bolted off and through the shrubbery. Kahiau himself seemed to beam even brighter. "I know who that is! It's my Mom -- Do you want to meet her? She's prolly lookin' for me. . . . I know she'd love to meet my newest friend, and see your necklace!" He chattered excitedly, eyes bright with mirth.

This was the most epic day ever -- he'd made a new friend that was exactly his age, and she was wearing one of his flower necklaces, and they were going to be friends forever.

As if to confirm such things, a gentle voice was heard. "Kahiau? What have you gotten up to now?" A small flash of gold was seen amid the thicker shrubs and woods, and it was clear that the source was heading generally in their direction. A few of Suzu's excited squeaks were also heard, as if he were explaining the situation.

She froze.

She'd never heard the faint jingle of bells before and that was enough to spook her, but what followed served only to make her worse. His mother was coming, an adult was on the way and she knew all too well how terrifying adults could be. No matter how gentle her voice might be, no matter how much he might assure her that his mother would like her... she knew better. More worryingly, the parent was closer than she had anticipated and the flash of gold was enough for her to quiver in place.

She was uncertain of what to do or how to proceed - should she stay, should she run? She couldn't afford to get Kahi in trouble, she didn't want to be hurt and she knew that her 'daddy' wouldn't take kindly to any hostility. For a child so young and vulnerable as her, it was a moment of true terror and indecision. With no one to guide her, the little filly felt truly helpless in those brief moments as the Angeni drew ever nearer.

How could she face an angel?

She couldn't, that was the answer to her very simple question.

It was for this reason that the filly began to scuttle and pull back, shaking her head rapidly. Body a-quiver, the filly soon spun round and stumbled; pulling herself to her hooves she then ran, chattering breathy apologies as she made her exit.

She couldn't look at an angel, an angel would blind her... She was safer in the dark.
