"Oh no!" That was the same look Pickfoot had worn when she had come in covered in mud that time.
"Water I think would be best, it would be easier to clean up at least." She thought for a moment. Clothes, food, carefulness...what else was there that they needed? Surely there was more to taking care of a scareling than just that!
"Are there things we are suppose to teach Ogo? I know I had to learn a lot of stuff. You're smart Maladore! Maybe you can teach us both stuff!" Igneous was excited at the thought of learning new things along with their pumpkin charge.

"Bathtub. Does the monster dormitory have a bathtub?" The undead didn't seem much for such things, at least not on the floors Malodore had access to, and the plague doctor was not going to try and sneak onto the vampire floors to bathe its pumpkin... child... thing.
There were easier ways to be humiliated.
"We could teach it," Malodore added, looking thoughtful. "The A-B-Cs? Numbers? Not to touch hot stoves?"

"I think there is a tub. I know there is a swamp on the lower floors! I usually just go stand out in the rain if I get too dirty so I haven't really looked," she confessed. "I have a basin that I use for Chip to wash in up in my dorm room - would that work?"
She hoped it would. Igneous really didn't want to go wandering around some of the floors in the monster dorms. Some of those students were scary!
"Those would all be good things to teach it. Ogo doesn't seem to move much so I don't think it would be going to the stove though. And we have to keep it away from Ginger!"

"A basin should - oh. Oh merd-"
The end of Malodore's curse was cut off by a sudden rising shriek emanating from the pumpkin, which had apparently grown tired of being messy and was now pitching a fit about it. The gourd rocked back and forth wildly in Malodore's hands, making it fumble for a good grip, as the unholy noise split the silence of the grave. A few heads broke the soil to glare at them.
"Scuse," Malodore shouted, then winced. At least the Battle of the Bands had given it some experience in loud noises and screaming? Ogo wasn't very metal, though. "Let's hurry," it said loudly to Igneous, holding Ogo at arm's length.

This was bad. This was very bad! Ogo should not be making noises like that - Iggy was quite certain of it!
"My room... is on... the second floor!" she yelled out between wails. By Jack that pumpkin could produce some noise! She quickly gathered her belongings and led the way.
Once they were inside the noise only intensified. Echoes of the wailing ranged ahead through the stone hallways. Curious (and annoyed) heads peeked out from doors and openings as they careened through the building It was with some relief that she opened the door to her own room.
She quickly ran water from the warm tap into the basin and turned to Malodore and the it's unhappy bundle with a panicked look. "I hope this works!"

Malodore unceremoniously dumped Ogo into the water, only for the pumpkin to slip below the surface, emanating a stream of bubbles that released bits of shriek with each pop.
Then, all was quiet.
Belatedly, Malodore realized it might be quiet because Ogo was in trouble; it hurriedly hoisted the pumpkin's top out of the water. "Are you well, Ogo?"
There was a gurgling sound, then something that sounded almost like a coo. "Do you suppose that's a yes?" Malodore asked, wearily.

"I think so," Igneous found a scrap of cloth and got the bits of cookie off the front of the now content pumpkin. "At least it doesn't have any appendages to splash with. When Chip bathes water goes everywhere!"
If Malodore had taken the time too look around the room now that this crises wa affected, he would have found a relatively bare space. There was a bed piled high with soft blankets and pillow in bright colors, a wardrobe, her desk with books and ink pots and Chip's perch near the window with a sand tray underneath it. The only art was a drawing of the LIT logo tacked up above the desk. It was the room of someone who was just settling in.
Once Ogo was clean, Iggy went to the wardrobe and pulled out a towel. The brief glance inside showed little in there other than a few changes of clothing and spare linens.
"Here we go! Nice and dry and fed, I bet it goes to sleep now. Chip usually does!"

"Does it sleep?" Malodore rather hoped it would. That screaming felt like it had torn right through its brain and out the other side. It awkwardly scooped up the pumpkin, wrapped it in the towel, and held it out to Igneous. "I think we're supposed to rock it back and forth, or something?"
Now that the immediate horrible crisis was over with, Malodore took a moment to look around Igneous' room. It was the first time it had ever been inside another student's room, let alone the monster dormitories. "Oh - you were in the Battle of the Bands too, weren't you? I remember seeing your band's name on one of the posters." It indicated the LIT logo.

Igneous gently - gently! - took the wrapped bundle. She held it a bit awkwardly, unsure of the best way to keep it safely in her arms. Finally she settled on a one arm hold with it tucked against her side, the wing on that side curved around as back-up just in case.
"yes, we made it to second round but lost when my drum richoched and knocked me out," She was still a little embarrassed by that failure. "You were in a band as well weren't you?"

"Yes, I was. We made it to the semi-finals and then... um... we got knocked out," Malodore said, after a moment's pause. It still wasn't entirely clear on the specifics of what had happened, other than one minute it'd been fighting and the next it'd been in the nurse's office.
It tapped Ogo gently with the tip of one long finger. "Don't get into a band," it advised the pumpkin.

Igneous giggled at the seriousness of Malodore's tone. "I don't think we have to worry about that for a while. I'm not sure it would be a problem at all. Nurse Cricket wouldn't give us pumpkins that will grow up to be tottlers and then scarelings and then teens would she?"
Suddenly having a pumpkin wasn't fun again. Iggy wasn't ready to have such a responsibility!

"Candlejack, I hope not!" Malodore gave Ogo a very wary look, then glanced up at Igneous. "Ah... that reminds me. We should probably switch off - we can't very well sleep in each others' dormitories to take care of Ogo. Perhaps we should trade off nights and rendezvous during the daytime when we can? For however long this takes?"
It wasn't sure how long that would be, but at least Igneous was pleasant company.

"I can keep Ogo tonight since we are here. That way you don't have to carry it all the way back to your room." Iggy offered. It only seemed fair after all, since the plague doctor had taken the first round of care.
"Just let me know where to meet you tomorrow. I'll bring extra cookies for you so you can have some too!"

"Would you?" Malodore said, with a vast sense of relief. "I can meet you anywhere you like. The Creepateria, perhaps? We could give it some milk to go with the cookies."

"Sounds like a plan to me!" Igneous looked around and spotted a basket half hidden under her bed. It was the one that she had brought all of her belongings with her in when she arrived. "I can use this to keep Ogo in tonight," she snagged it with a foot and then picked it up with her free arm. "Maybe with some of my blankets?"
"I could carry it in the basket if you wanted to use it as well. I don't mind you using it if you want. Do you want to meet around lunch? Do you think that would be safe?"
