It was only now that things might possibly getting serious that Belladonna finally decided to acknowledge Julian's negative emotions. With a wave of her hand (that actually faltered in the air, she hoped he didn't see it with his sharp vision) she sat up straighter, looking back the way she had come.
"She's not hidden that hard!" But, Julian did look really unhappy and the witch didn't want to push him into anything he didn't want to do. Maybe he had had a traumatic experience of Hide and Go Seek as a child and that was the reason for his nervousness? In any event she stood, taking a deep breath.
"OK. So, I know you're going to freak, but don't. For serious. Like, if you freak out I will.... I don't know, but it'll be something DRASTIC." A lot of emphasis was put on that last word, not for dramatic purposes (well, maybe just a tiny bit) but mostly to stress the point that Julian need not worry. "I can't remember exactly. But I know it was back that way!" She pointed. "We'll find her... We just have to look extra hard is all!" Hopefully her positive attitude would help overshadow the fact that she had lost their baby.

Now, it was a fact that Julian had very large eyes. If they were smaller, he probably wouldn't be able to see as well as he did, though it was nothing compared to his mother and eldest brother. But when Belladonna said she wasn't sure where she had hidden Rowan exactly, his eyes almost doubled in size (Well, maybe not doubled, but they certainly got huge when he opened them fully rather than the sleepy expression he normally wore). He jumped up feathers ruffling, looking down at the witch. He wasn't much taller than her, but with his wings half-flared along with the rare loss in the temper he barely had, he was a much more imposing individual than he usually showed himself to be.
"You don't-?!" He didn't even finish the sentence before taking off at a gliding run in the direction she had gestured to. He looked frantically around, wishing the pumpkin could make some kind of noise, he could find her then. The color was quickly leaving his face, fearing for the poor thing as well as his grade.
But then something reached his ears and he turned to a bush with a gaping hole in it. He crept up to it to see a pair of goldish eyes staring at him from the barely lifted lid of the pumpkin and he heard another soft sound emanated from it. He gently picked it out of the bush and turned to Belladonna.
"I think we need to take her to Nurse Cricket..."

Alright, so that wasn't an exact freak out, so Belladonna wasn't going to count it against the owl-boy or anything. She was a little unnerved by him glowering over her like that because yeah, a lot of people were taller than her, but that wing spreading thing really made her feel extra small. Even her hoop skirt didn't help her this time around. So when Julian turned and dashed off, Belladonna only watched him for a moment, just standing there and feeling generally sorry for herself. It was easy to be bright and cheerful, but sheesh, when you weren't good at taking care of even a short school project it sure did plummet your mood.
Then she heard a noise and while it didn't pick up her mood entirely, she did bolt toward the noise and saw the small thing that had once been merely a pumpkin. Her eyebrows crinkled but she smiled at it anyways.
"Hey Baby Rowan! I'm your Mom... And this is your Dad...." She reached out a hand, but quickly recoiled it. "I think we should take her to Nurse Cricket too..." She managed one small smile for the baby, but it disappeared as she followed behind Julian toward the school. Next time she met him, she promised she'd do her best! Didn't matter if she was only walking the down hall or saying hi! She'd make this up to him... Somehow, someday... Hopefully!
