You see? This is why I started this: Some good debating! I agree with everyone's views (And the one who pointed out the red trenchcoat with a gun was new, I know Japan likes the look, but I didn't realize Vincent was like that too... wait! He isn't! He has a red CAPE! MWAHAHAHAHAH! I know... I fail) But yeah, have at it people, if you want to reinforce your opinion, go for it. Just don't be an arse, alright? Anyways, I think that the two that are winning for biggest stereotype (in MY eyes) would have to be Barret and... (DUM-DUM-DUM) Tifa. The elast stereotypical are Red and Cait, notice how Red XIII isn't even on the list for most stereotypical? Because he's a wise old DOG/TIGER who uses a billyclub... that's not all that cliched(wipes the dust of his forgetfulness when he made the poll under the rug of his excuse...)

Edit: Thanks to Xanth for pointing out my mistake... I don't know WHAT I was thinking... Gomen nasai.

i say aeris is most stereotypical b/c of her "delicateness" and flowergirl role as you say which is how almost all white mages are (nice, delicate, ......weak physically)

yuffie is the least, by stealing the materia and being so "clumsy", she's represents everyhting opposite of a ninja 3nodding

Now SweetMischief has it, good job. She pretty much gave a better-ish erason of why she thoguht the way she did (just like the thing with Yuffie.) Anyways, Yeah... let's try to keep this thing going, okay?

Dude... Cait was a stuffed toy Cat who rode a bigass stuffed toy mog and used a megaphone... which is a device you talk into to make your voice louder.

Also... the least cliche'd I think... and this will surprise you... is BARRET!

One: Japanese Anime's/ Japanese games in general, usually do not have many (if any) black people in them, atleast at the time FF7 was made.

Two: He's got a GUN for an ARM! cmon, when was that done before the time FF7 was made?

Three: Not only is he a black guy in a japanese game, but he was a GOOD black guy in a japanese game. Usually in japanese games if there ever was a black guy, he was a bad guy... who didn't last too long in any fights if he'd even last through the first one and live...

Note that in the above quotes, it's not me being racist. It's merely stating the facts, or atleast of what I've seen of japanese games/anime's

Now... for the most cliche'd.

I would have to go with Cloud.

One: Typically, in Jap anime's, the main character is usually a lithe-yet-strong person, such as cloud. Tell me how a small guy like that can lift and swing a sword as big as his body that fast!?

Two: Spikey hair? That was done since Dragon Ball Z, and that's what started the whole thing. Not to diss his hair-do or anything, but... it's just done alot.

Three: Swordsman... Traditionally, in a jap-anime or japanese made game, the main character uses swords of some type or another. Aka, Gunblade(Squall), Double Bladed sword(Zidane), Vampire hunter D, Lodoss War, etc.

Four: The attitude at the beginning changing to what it was at the end. That's not the first time. "I'm just in it for the money, I don't give a s**t what happens to the planet." Then going to "Guys, what the hell? You're gonna let'em blow the world up?"

Five: Hometown destroyed by the main bad guy of the game. That goes right along with the 'my whole family was killed right infront of me by (Random name).'

Six: Finally, looking up to the bad guy as a young man, or otherwise being friends with the bad guy. This was done in Cowboy Bebop, once in a Shadow Skill episode (With the fight between the warrior woman and the magic caster woman.) Ninja Scroll, and in AKIRA

YES! Xanth wins except for one small thing: Before Final Fantasy 7, Megaman AND ... what's the idiot's name? I dunno... some other show, had the main character with a Gunarm. I'll admit though, you did make a good point in pointing out how FEW anime games there are with black people in it... but I don't entirely go against your Cloud ideas. They ARE true, but there are also things in his character that make him... HIM. Anyways, Kudos to Fia Xanth for both pointing out my mistake (although SOMEONE would've noticed eventually) and for forming excellent, and viable, answers.

I would have to say that Cloud was the most stereotypical... simply for the sheer fact that he gets Hero-itis at the end and pulls out a can of whoop-a** for the win. He even does the same thing in Advent Children... *headdesk* It's like the unwritten rule of most RPG games, your character has to live and win.

For least stereotypical, I would have to say... um... *is having a hard time deciding, they all seem stereotypical now*

...

...I think I'm stumped... I'll have to finish this later *gulp*

I think cloud is the least stereotypical..He was the hero of the story and was basicaly a failure at life up until the events in ff7.

Not in mine (I make my own with... various RPG makers.) mine starts off with your character already dead! So there! But yes, I agree with your fine point, after this thread, they all have quite a few stereotypcial things about them, neh?

OKAY! UPDATE! I just looked at the polls: The MOST stereotypical is NOW Cloud and Barret... isn't that great? Heheheh... Aeris comes in a relatively okay 3rd, and the rest are evenly matched for the most part...

I would say Tifa is the least ... I don't like her character much because she's over rated cause of her overly large chest but at least she's not a "stupid whiny oh I'm so weak and pathetic that I can't take care of myself and am more of a hinderance then useful" character.
She can actually take care of herself, she has her own business which proves independance, she has her own ideas and just does them instead of following everyone else's lead but she still cares enough that she won't go putting her friends in danger. Also she's there for all her friends not just stupid Cloud or herself.

And I would say Sephiroth is the most..... has there been a FF yet where the main bad guy hasn't had such a bad experience with life that he goes insane and tries to destroy the world thinking it will do it good in the end?

I voted Aeris. The little miss goody two-shoes who is pretty, sweet, and just..UGH! And of course the main character falls for her, as usual. rolleyes

Lol... I dunno. But yeah, Bob, I think Tifa's nearly useless. Point in case: The Slap contest... need I say more? She decks a dragon and kills it, yet she SLAPS another girl? Why not Dolphin Kick her off the thing they're standing on? Done!
