Anger seeped away from Linarite as she absorbed the ragged emotion that Tanzanite was sobbing into the flesh of her arms. Her pale hand slid gently and with no effort at all out of that heaving chest to wrap around the captain and hold her as tightly as possible without irritating fragile ribs. Had it been anyone but Tanz, there would have at least been some frame of reference as to what to do. There were the platitudes that meant nothing but tended to soothe people like Elzo or Pasha, and it was easy to hold on and lend support that way. But what did you do for someone who was as broken as broken could be?
There were no platitudes. The bluenette general doubted that even reminding Tanz that they had been children as well would help. It just was yet another reminder of how truly messed up this whole thing was, a harsh light shining on them both and revealing all the ugly bits. Certainly this was not something that could be done while sprawled in bits of bark and glass in the middle of the yard, so with a light pressure on their bodies, Linarite teleported the pair right into her bed. Her hand stroked uselessly at the tangled purple mane of hair sprawled over her legs, deciding that the platitudes were better than nothing.
"It's what we do. If you hadn't killed them, they would have gotten you killed. You had to go, because she told you to. I don't care if they were innocent children out for a stroll on Easter Sunday or a pack of rabid b***h senshi. If I had to pick between them and you, the choice is always clear." And that was the truth of it, no matter who Tanzanite had been told to kill. You did what you were ordered to do, or the queen turned on you. There was no disobeying, there was no failure, there was do or be punished.
"But it's okay now. You're here, and you're going to stay here. I'll take care of you." Another simple thing. Tanzanite had hit the nail on the head, she was weak, and could not be alone. Now that this pillar, crumbled though it might be was back in her life, she wasn't going to let it go again.

Broken in more ways than one, all the strength and resolve seemed to flow out of Tanzanite in sync with the tears, until the power of the Negaverse fled from the weak and frightened girl and left only Aree Candence's broken body lying in the General's arms. She nodded against the bluenette's shoulder, unable to muster words to express the sudden wave of gratitude and understanding. Ursula was gone, and with Queen Beryl at the helm of the Negaverse, she might as well have been dead. Obsidian was... well, she had no idea where Obsidian was. Her family was a distant memory of the life she'd left behind, which left only Linarite.
Only Audrey.
It was a heavy burden for the young General to bear, but such a thought never crossed Aree's mind. She clung to Linarite as though fearful that letting her go might mean losing what little grip she had left on the world outside of the black, cavernous depths of the Negaverse. It had seemed such a short time ago that it had been Tanzanite who had been the strong one, the pillar of strength on which their always strained relationship had rested. Now it was evident as Aree let her body fall slack against Audrey that their roles had been reversed. Exhaustion finally caught up with the overzealous Captain and sleep snatched her up within moment, giving her only enough time to murmur one barely audible murmur.
“Thank you.”
