"That wasn't a compliment," she snapped back at him. "And I don't care about your grandparents. Or your sisters. Or the rest of your family." It annoyed her so much that he wasn't falling for any of her traps, that he wasn't arguing back. What fun was it if her words just bounced back harmlessly?
She crossed her arms crossly, turning instead to inspect the items on display. At this point, she didn't even feel like talking to him anymore- she felt more like kicking him, really. That calmness was so aggravating, that 'I'm-better-than-you-little-kid" tone... And to top it off, he was describing these beautiful, shiny things as 'interesting'? How utterly unappreciative! At least, the young girl supposed, he'd said she'd done well... but even that annoyed her. Especially with that smug smile on his face.
Enlei was seething. In an effort to calm herself down she picked up a necklace- a simple crystal clover pendant. She'd done as Jianyu asked, hadn't she? This would be her reward to herself. As soon as she'd bought it, she'd go back to what she was doing before Jianyu accosted her- trying to enjoy her Sunday.. alone.

Jianyu lifted a brow at Enlei's defiant response, mildly confused by her anger. She seemed quite agitated, and he did not particularly understand why that was. He was grateful for her help, and Enlei had seemed to be growing used to him, but it was similar to walking alone a forest. Each step had to be careful, each tread of his foot cautious, in case he stepped in a trap of some sort, or was ambushed by something or someone. Enlei, though seemingly a rather pleasant girl as a whole, was quick to temper.
"I'm sorry," Jianyu said, setting down the glass object in his hand to turn fully in Enlei's direction. "Did I say something to offend you? If I did, I apologize; that was not my intention. You have been a great help to me already, and I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to assist me."
Enlei had picked a necklace up, and was holding it tightly, her expression one of great irritation. Jianyu was already somewhat distressed at her apparent shift in moods, but he schooled his features back into his normal face, exhaling slowly.
"Perhaps this was not a good idea after all," he murmured, mostly to himself. A glint of sunlight caught on the jewelry in Enlei's hand again. He debated offering to purchase it for her, but he felt the gesture would have seemed overbearing somehow, so instead he reached into his money pouch, holding out a handful of coins. Reaching out, Jianyu took her hand in his, turning it so her palm faced upwards.
"For your help today," he said quietly, pushing her fingers closed around the coins. "Please accept this."

Taking the time out of her day, huh... more like forced into going shopping with someone she wasn't even particularly fond of. Well, whatever. She scowled, refusing to look at him. Well aware as she was that scowls did not become her pretty face, she couldn't help it. Now he just looked like a kicked puppy, and.. and...
"It's okay," she said gruffly (and just a tiny bit sheepishly- she hadn't exactly conducted herself well, with all these temper tantrums). "I can afford it." Enlei pushed the coins back into his hand. Judging from his attire his family wasn't entirely well-to-do, and he probably needed all the money he had to afford his sister's gifts.
Instead, she pulled out her own purse, counted out a few coins and dropped them into the shopkeeper's waiting palm. There was a moment of awkward silence as she waited for the necklace to be wrapped up... and the minute the shopkeeper handed it to her, she turned away from him.
"Today wasn't the best day," she said softly. "And whatever it means coming from me, I'm sure your sisters would love anything you got them."
Making her way through the crowd, she couldn't stop thinking about this encounter. Jianyu was the enemy, and she had.. helped him out.
She had never, in her whole life, considered the fact that even the 'enemy' had family they cared about. People they wanted to protect.
..Whatever. Forcing the thought out of her mind, Enlei made her way towards a dessert shop. Perhaps something sweet.. would make everything right again.
