ugh this one no... i'm sorry. They are poised to attack. But....

well.

I suppose that after they start attacking, he could show up as a traveler who just simply happens to be passing by. He could explain that he is part of a fighter's guild in another city and offer his assistance in taking out the obvious bandits.

You would probably not get full credit at the end of the quest, more like half since you joined so late. But that would have to be determined at the end of the quest.

But yes, okay. After they attack you may join. We also have have a new fun event he can join as well. =)

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of having Zel already in the camp, having infiltrated it and posed as one of the bandits. Since he's from a different chapter of the guild, he's unaware of the incoming raid, but decides to improvise when he hears them coming, perhaps suddenly getting up from his meal, tossing the metal bowl over another bandit's head, and making a mad dash for his sword. Should allow for a good bit of humor.
