~*Day Two*~

I woke up some time around the afternoon. Yawning I pushed my two Neinuses off of me and also tumbled to the ground. On instinct I clambered over to my desk and pulled out a folder. Rubbing my eyes I pulled on my glasses and picked up a pencil. As I started jotting ideas down on a piece of paper. Kileria jumped up onto my lap, purring happily. I absent mindedly stroked her while I stared out the window, searching my mind. Suddenly a bird landed on the window pane. It's beady eyes stared at me as it tilted it's head. I stared back at it.
Feather... It chirped. I jolted in surprise. Kileria scampered off my lap before her head hit the desk, and the bird chirped again.
"I must be hearing things." I muttered, closing my eyes. The bird ahd a perfectly normal chirp. It didn't say "feather". I laughed at my own stupidness and started writing an outline with the best ideas.
Feather. I looked up at it. It blinked slowly and stared back at me. Suddenly it flew off, leaving the sun to shine in. I didn't move my gaze from the window until Kileria jumped back onto my lap. Looking down I noticed she ahd the feather in her mouth, and she dropped it onto my desk.
This isn't right. I thought wearily, cupping my face in my hand and looking down at the feather.
"Whoa!" I slammed back in my chair, making it fall to the floor. I immediately jumped up and stared at the feather, wide eyed. Did it just...
"No, I know it did." The thing had wiggled. Wiggled. Feathers aren't supposed to do that are they?

~*Day Two [continued]*~

After inspecting the feather for about an hour I couldn't come up with anything, besides the fact that the star and moon were not painted on it. I feel like Kilere and Kileria are trying to tell me something, but I can't figure out what. I had been plotting more for my story, but this feather has got me so distracted that I decided to write about it in my diary. I sighed and put down my pencil. I couldn't even write in my diary. Putting it away I stood up and pulled on my cloak. Maybe if I took a walk my head would clear. I opened the door and walked out, Kileria at my heels. Kilere stayed back, watching the door swing shut. Looking down at my female Neinus who decided to tag along I tried to pull my thoughts away from the feather and back to my story. When I got to the edge of the woods I sighed.
"What am I going to do? My bills have to be paid and I can't even get this one book out. And since my other series has finished it isn't selling as often." Kileria looked up at me with big round eyes, and the answer clicked.
"You're brilliant, girl!" I cried happily, picking her up and running home.

I sat back in my chair.
"Finished!" I sighed happily. Finally. I looked up at the clock.
"Five in the morning, I'd better get some sleep." I trudged up the stairs and fell onto my bed. All I had to do was show it to my editor, correct the mistakes, and it'd be off the press in no time. I was particularly happy with this one, the first book in a series, and the ending was great. Left the readers hanging, so they were bound to buy the second book. In the end the girl found a feather, with a strange moon and star on it...

~*Day Three*~

I wrapped the "Dreaming Never fails" folder in heavy paper and stuck it in the mailbox. Suddenly Kilere ran out the door and darted down the street. I blinked in surprise, standing there for a second. he had never done that before, and I knew that one strike from a cayote and he was dead. I immediately ran after him.
"Kilere! Kilere!" I called anxiously, but he didn't seem to notice. He was gaining speed and getting ahead way too fast. I stopped, leaning over and catching my breath.
"Kilere!" I shouted, but I couldn't even see him anymore. I slumped down besides the dirt road, panting. I stayed there, staring at my hands blankly. I don't when but I got up and started after him again. Right when I realized there was no way I could be sure where he went, I saw him laying down contentedly. He looked up at me and I noticed he had the feather in his mouth. I reached out to grab him and he darted away again.
"Kilere!" I whined, but ran after him.

After following him for more then an hour ((with several breath stops on the way)) he trotted up to the door of a large mansion and scratched at the door, whimpering. I dropped down besides him, panting. Before I could scold him the door opened. I stood up quickly to face a man in the mid-fifties. He looked down his nose at me, beforestuffing a small book into my hands.
"This is for you. Read it and use it wisely." He said, then closed the door. I blinked, my mouth half open. Kilere nudged me and dropped the feather at my feet. I picked it up and stuck it in the book.
"Let's go home." I muttered, but he was already ahead of me, trotting happily along. I didn't move until he stopped and looked back at me. Sighing I managed to drag my aching feet home.

~*Day Four*~

I got to my house as the sun rose. I hadn't realized how far I had gone. It hadn't even felt like a mile. I fell down on my door steps, my muscles throbbing painfully.
"Thanks Kilere." I mumbled sarcastically, but he just licked my hand happily and sat down next to me.

I woke up sometime around noon. Pulling myself up into sitting position I looked at Kilere, who was sleeping curled up into a ball. I looked down at the book, picked it up, and opened the door. Kilere looked up sleepily, stood up, and walked in. Kileria was waiting for us on the sofa, and she jumped down to greet her brother and me. I stroked the tip of the feather sticking out from the book as I ran yesterdays events through my head. I sighed and sat down on the couch. As usual Kileria and Kilere curled themselves up besides me as I opened the book and started to read. I read and read, and read until my eyes felt like they were going to fall out finally I closed the book, and looked out the window. Moon light shined through it, falling onto the windowsill in silky silver water. I picked up the feather and put it on the moonlight, before collapsing onto the ground unconscious.

~*Day Six*~

I woke up with Kilere standing over me. Still dosed in tiredness, I put my arms around him and pulled him to the ground, using him as a live stuffed animal. He wiggled out of my grip, whimpering. Yawning I rubbed my eyes and sat up. Sun light smothered the floor, and I swayed slightly. Remembering the other night I pulled myself up and looked at the feather. It was right where I had left it. Flexing my legs to make sure nothing was wrong, I walked to the table. I picked up a bill and stared at it.
500 dollars for the electric bill. I never really used electricity much. I barely watched T.V, and I didn't even have a computer. The only thing was the lamp on my desk. I turned it on when it was too dark to write. My oven had been broken for a couple months now, and the microwave was sitting in the dark, waiting for the day it could cook some macaroni. I sometimes went days without eating, and when I did eat I went to some cheap restuarant. I wasn't ashamed of my ways, I could live how I wanted. Sometimes I just wished I had parents I could borrow money from. I had been an orphan begger for as long as I could remember. Until some woman picked me up on the street and took me in. I never knew her name, I just called her Ma'am. Then she died, and to my surprise I had been given all her money. Nothing else. Her brother had gotten the house, and her friends had been given the pets. I bought a house, and not knowing what else to do, took English classes. Soon I was an author. The money I had inherited was long gone. In sadness I rested my head against the wall. Sensing my emotions Kileria rubbed against me. I picked her up and buried my face in her soft red fur. Ma'am had been my only friend. I shakily sighed, trying to think of something else. This was 6 years ago, and I had promised my self that I would get over it. But I never really have.

~*Day Six [continued]*~

I stared at the blank paper, hoping words would magically appear there. I was completely out of ideas for what to write in the second book. I had done something that always kills writers; thought up the ending. I had the ending completely planned out, but nothing for the beginning. And with my patience I was bound to give up writing the book. You always want to get to the best part, since it's fun to write. Leaning back in my chair I thought of the end in the last book.

The feather was beautiful. Green with a black star and moon on it. Picking it up gently, Keria studied it more. Finally she put the feather behind her ear, knowing that this feather would resemble the friend she just lost. It would bring her back good and bad memories.
"I put it right next to the picture of us, searching for our lost lives."

The ending was perfect. In the beginning she and her friend had said they didn't have much of a life, and they were losing it everyday. So they set out on an adventure. Keria's friend ended up dying, and then she had found the feather. The picture was of one her friend had drawn, showing the two girls sitting together, Keria's head leaned against the other girl's shoulders.
"Mm, Kileria, I've got it!" I said rubbing her ear before starting to write.

~*Day Nine*~

There once was a man from peru,
Who dreamed he was eating a shoe.
He woke with a fright,
In the middle of the night,
To find that his dream had come true.

I chuckled and closed the poetry book. Taking off my glasses and attaching them to my belt I leaned over to pat Kilere. Suddenly there was a knock on my door, and with a groan, I pulled myself up and answered it.
"Package for Miss Emily Secatt." A boy, not much older then me, said.
"That's me." I said, though he had already shoved a clipboard into my hands. I signed quickly, took the package, and closed the door. Wondering who would send me a package, I put it down on the table and read the paper taped to it. All it said was my name, adress, and had a stamp. I picked up the scissors on the table and broke the seal, then pulled the bubble wrap out. Inside was a pile of books. Furrowing my brow in confusion I pulled the first one out and read the cover.
"Power of the Gods." By Emily Secatt. I grinned and pulled another out.
"Keeping Things Together." By Emily Secatt. Yep, they were all the books I had ever published. But I still didn't know who sent it to me. I kept pulling book after book out, until I reached the end of the box. Just what I was looking for -a sealed envelope. I ripped it open and pulled out a letter.
Dear Emily,
These, as you must have seen, are your published books. Why am I sending these to you? Because when I asked you said that no, you didn't keep the copies that was sent to you. So I took the time to order each of your books for you. I think it would cheer you up to reread all your beautiful art. Please do not sell or get rid of these. I really would like you to keep them.
Truly,
Your Dear Friend.

I put the letter down on top of the pile of books, now covering my table, searching my mind. No lightbulb turned on. I searched the box over, and the envelope. Still no name. Sighing I walked over and touched the feather lightly. It wiggled, but I didn't care. it did that lately. After a moment I went back to the table and picked up the first book, "Power of the Gods." Might as well start reading.

~*Day Eighteen*~

I woke with a start as something banged on the door. Pushing my head up from the open book I was using as a pillow, I looked at the feather sleepily. Another knock made me jump.
"I'm coming!" I called, running to the door and prying it open. Outside stood a young boy.
"Newspaper fer Miss Emily." He said, with an accent.
"Thank you." I said, nodding and taking the paper. I dug through my pockets, trying to find a dollar.
"No need tah pay Miss, some one else already did." And he walked off. I blinked several times before closing the door.
"That was weird." I muttered to Kileria, who was blinking at me from the sofa. I sighed and sat down at my desk and opened the newspaper. To my surprise an envelope fell out. Sighing I picked it up and searched it for a name, but there was none. I pried it open and inside was 100 dollars. My mouth fell open. Someone was obviously trying to be kind, but I didn't know why. I was sure it was the same person who sent the box with my books in it, which meant he had to know I didn't keep the copies I was given of them. Ishook my head and placed the newspaper and money in a drawer before opening another and pulling out a clean folder.
"Dreaming Never Fails-book 2" I wrote on it with a permanent marker, before pulling out a couple sheets of blank paper and starting to write.

~*Day Twenty*~

"Wake up Miss." Someone whispered. I moaned and buried my head depper into my arms, my desk had never felt so warm and comfortable...
"Augh!" I screamed, jerking back and causing my chair to fall over backwards. A young boy stood over me with big eyes,
"Are you okay?" He asked quietly.
"What...who...how'd you..." I stammered, pulling myself to my feet and furrowing my brow at the shorty. He had green skin, and wings. AND if I wasn't mistaken a tail.
"What's your name?" Was the first thing he insisted.
"E-Emily. Emily Secatt. What's yours?" I asked slowly and cautiously, but relaxing my muscles a bit. How could I be so frightened of a little boy? A strange looking boy though....
"I don't know, you have to tell me!" He grinned, and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.
"I...have to name you?" I stepped back as if it had been a physical blow.
"Myguel." I said the first thing that popped into my head. I was just dreaming, that's all, so I might as well go along with it. I thought, realizing now it was only my unconscious mind setting to work.
"I like that name! I like your kitty Kileria too. But her mean brother doesn't like me." The boy-I mean Myguel- pouted.
"That isn't a cat. I...don't know what it is. But it isn't a cat. And Kileria's brother is Kilere.....wait, how do you know?" I crossed my arms.
"I can talk to them!" Myguel pronounced proudly, and right on time Kileria jumped at him. He caught her in his arm and kissed her forehead. I raised an eyebrow. Kileria had never even done that to me. Apparently she trusted this boy a lot.

~*Day Twenty-Five*~

"Come on Myguel, eat quickly!" Emily shouted from her room. Myguel looked down at the cereal that he was eating as quick as he already could. Sighing he put it onto the ground and immediately Kileria ran over and started eating it.
"Almost done!" He called back, stroking the creatures head. Emily came out of her room with a black dress and her cloak on.
"Myguel!" She groaned, picking up the cereal and dumping it into the sink.
"I told you not to feed her that! Oh well, we're already late as is." She grabbed his coat and dragged him out the door.
"Put this on." She shoved the coat into his arms and started down the street. Shoving his arms into the coat he pranced down after her.
"Why is this so important?" He asked, pulling the coat tighter around himself.
"Because if I don't go to this my book won't get published. And with you living with me now I deffently need more money."
"Awww, I'm not that bad." He pouted.
"No, but still. I'm not taking the risk of you starv-" She put an arm out to stop him from going into the street just as a car sped down the road.
"Ing. Or getting run over." She added.
"Why don't we have soemthing like that." He pointed at the car.
"That's a car. And because, like I said, I don't have enough money." She took hold of Mygeul's hand and walked briskly across the road to the other side.

Myguel sighed and leaned back against the chair. Emily had made him wait in her editors office. He had been told not to touch anything, just sit in the chair and wait patiently. Well, his patience was running out. How long could this take? He turned to look at the computer. He gently touched the space bar and it sprung to life. He lerched back at the sudden light, making the chair fall crashing to the ground. He squeaked with surprise at this, and jumped up, hit the garbage, and made it fall across the floor.
"Eww..." He moved backwards to avoid the stuff and hit a key on the computer, making all the windows disappear. Just then Emily and her editor walked in.
"Myguel!" Emily gasped. Her editor stood wide-eyed in the doorway as Emily grabbed his shoulders and pushed him out.
"I'm so, so sorry." She smiled nervously and pulled Myguel to the door.
"What did you do!?" She hissed, pushing open the door with extra force.
"It was an accident!" Myguel exclaimed.

~*Day Thirty-Six*~

Emily ran in the door, waving a paper in her hands.
"Myguel, Myguel!" She called, running into the living room.
"What?" He looked away from the T.V, which he called the "Magic Box" to look at his guardian.
"The book is published and it got an award! This means we'll have enough money in no time!" She fell down on the sofa and hugged the boy.
"...Th-that's great!" He sputtered after untangling the knot in his mind.
"So your editor isn't mad about my....accident?" He looked down at his hands, embarrased.
"No, she understands." Emily chuckled, ruffling his hair and standing up again.
"You must be hungry. What would you like to eat?" Emily walked into the kitchen with Kilere at her heals. Kileria stayed on Myguel's lap, purring happily.
"Macaroni!" He had seen an ad for it on the T.V and he wanted to try it. Emily shuffled through the cupboard and pulled out a box.
"You got lucky this time! We have it!"

~*Day Fifty-Four*~

Emily opened her eyes and lay there for several minutes, trying to will herself to stand up. Finally her legs cooperated and she slipped out of bed. She quickly dressed and went to the kitchen.
"I wonder if we should have french toast this morning." She mumbled, still half asleep. The woman pulled out the eggs, butter, and toast, and started to pull out some more ingredients.
"How do you make that again?" She pondered. She had never really eaten healthy but ever since Myguel had came she wanted to give the boy a healthier diet.
"Emily! Emily!" Myguel came pounding into the kitchen.
"What no-" She turned around to see the boy was about a foot taller, and much more lean. She gasped and dropped the mixing bowl she held.
"What happened?!" She gasped, running over to examine him.
"I changed again!" He announced happily, clapping and flapping to large wings he now held.
"And you have a tail!" Emily was even paler than she normally was. It was just to much to take in. Myguel nodded and smiled at the woman. He was now eye level with her, and felt much more mature.
"You can't go to school like this!" Recently the mayor had made Emily let Myguel go to school after somehow hearing about the boy she obtained.
"Well sure I can! I'll just hide my wings and tail." Myguel said, getting ready to run back upstairs.
"But you're still older! No, no, we'll have to say you're sick and think of what to do then." She rushed past Kileria and upstairs. Myguel sighed (he rather liked school) and started to clean up the mess his guardian had made.
"It looks like she was making toast and some sort of weird eggs." He looked at the things on the counter and wrinkled his nose.

After much pondering Emily decided that she would have to move. There was no other way; and she couldn't say Myguel was sick forever. When she told the boy this he almost looked ready to burst into tears.
"But Emily my friends are here. This is our home!" He whimpered.
"I know but it won't work any other way. Start packing, I'm going to the library to see if there are any houses for sale in any other town." She pulled on her coat.
"But this is so sudden...we can't leave this soon!" Myguel continued, hoping this was just a joke.
"I'm sorry, I am. You can complain later though. I need to find a cheap house. Maybe an apartment or something." And with that she kissed his forehead and wisked out the door. His head spinning, Myguel sat down on the coach and stared at the blank TV screen.
