Charlie sounds really sweet but a little too naïve to be believable. Meaning, how can someone be exposed to that much poverty and hardship without having moments of depression? I can understand he'd need to be optimistic to get him through the harder times, to blot out dark(er) thoughts in the basic essential need to push on through. I'd like to think every once in a while those rose tinted glasses slipped from his nose and before he found them again he looked around a bit but that it was a conscious choice to find those glasses again, to look at everything in a false light because he wasn't as naive as he portrayed, he knew his state of poverty but knew the only way to deal was to put in false light and get through the dark times.
^^ The above would also explain his temper when it came to disrupting or dirtying something he'd just cleaned, or throwing a temper tantrum because someone or thing had caused him to trip and promptly tear an item of clothing he'd just repaired/sown up, for his efforts to bring normality to his life, or the control factors which had always allowed him to get through those darker times had been disrupted, knocked those rose tinted glasses from his nose. Temper would mask the fear and despair he probably would feel with being faced with the personal demons of a broken family and a poverty stricken life.
I also like the idea that he reacts warmly to 'cute girls'. Besides the obvious I'd image he'd favour female company to replace the lack of maternal affection he got from his mother. All of this is however my own speculation and ideas you needn't agree with them in any shape or form, however I still believe no one can be truly that naïve.
My ultimate question however is; once he's learnt to read and write, what is the letter from his father going to tell him and how is he going to reply?

I love your crit and I think it makes perfect sense for the reasons behind him getting frustrated. Like he holds back his true feelings and tries his best to lie to him self kind of thing but it doesnt always work out.
The reason behind the girls really makes alot of sense too. I'll work on it : 3 Thank you

Once upon a time there was an application for a student filled out by someone who wasn't that student. Or maybe it was -- it was hard to argue when all the little boxes were filled in with upside-down text in a spidery handwriting that looked too neat and too professional to belong to any first year student.
But hey, who was she to judge? Red chugged the rest of Arel's hard apple cider and fed it to Arel's acceptance bin, slipping a rather questionable magazine into the application's former place beneath several more applications before staggering out the office, giggling with the stolen empty bottle.
