"I was breathing, wasn't I?" Taraxa rolled from his side to his belly, bracing himself on widespread paws. It really was a rhetoric question. He wasn't expecting a reply.
"Why do you feel bad?" That was a dangerous question. He was convinced she was nuts, even if she had seen his near-death experience in a vision. Even if she had saved his life.
Yes, the loopy broad had saved his life, and he owed her because of it. He'd nearly drowned trying to save a log, and thanks to her he still drew breath. Had he been on his own, death would've greeted him with open arms.
Begrudgingly, he mumbled one last word before resting his chin on his paws as he moved into a more comfortable position.
"Thanks."

"I was breathing, wasn't I?"
It was indeed a rhetorical question.
"I didn't know. That's why I had to check."
"Why do you feel bad?"
And that was indeed a dangerous question. He happened to get lucky she had no idea.
"I don't know."
Now that she had it on her side, Zilly could have spent a lot of time contemplating her emotional state. After she'd spent the first half getting to where she could accept it was not a purely physical issue. She could have, but she didn't. And it was his fault.
"Thanks."
One of the times she'd seen him she'd thanked him herself. If not for that, he could have wondered if she knew what the word meant, looking as boggled as she did. No one had said it to her before.
"Okay," the lioness replied awkwardly. "If you weren't so fat you might be able to swim better," she added casually.
Moment ruined.
