XXX"I've barely started in the Council. Getting the funds for the Council was my first mission as a student." Seymour replied, bring out the kiseru in his hand as he pulled his hand out. He stared at the hand and frowned when he saw his finger tips dyed black. The sot must have leaked out into his pocket. He will need to get that pocket, and his jacket cleaned once he gets home.
XXXSnapping out of his thoughts, he gave Shati a small smile before pocketing his kiseru again. The kiseru seems to protest as the smoke it released thickened ever so slightly. The smoke was leaking from the opening of the pocket. "Sorry, I got distracted."

"Ah, I see. I imagine you can't just accept people into an organization willy-nilly," Shati reasoned, and then turned her attention to the little pipe. She had never seen something identical before, but it looked like a pipe... they weren't supposed to smoke unless you were puffing them, though, right? She watched the little object disappear again and tilted her head. Perhaps it would be best not to ask.
"Tell me about the Council," she said instead, "I know very little about them." She didn't mind Seymour's company, and to learn something from it was even better.

XXX"Well..." Seymour replied, brushing his hand in hope of wiping the sot off his finger tips. What was there to say about the Council? There's too much going on to simply say at once. Maybe just the main points should do. "Our head is Doc. Kirkaldy and representative is Sir Rockwell. The Council's main goal is to find a cure for the black plague. We're pretty much just doing what we can to stop tragedies caused by the black plague from happening. Maybe of us have lost someone special to the virus already. We really wouldn't want someone to feel that pain if we might be able to stop it."
XXXSeymour looked down sadly, fiddling with the rim of his sleeves subconsciously. If only the cure would just up and appear already. Maybe his grandfather wouldn't have died if it has. As Seymour pondered on the past, the smoke within his pocket increased and seemed to wrap itself around Seymour's hand. The tall man does not notice this strange event, nor does he seem to realize it.

Shati listened, but only partially. She was interested in Seymour's reaction first and foremost, but then the smoke began to trail up his arm. Never before had something like that happened. The smoke almost seemed... sentient? Was that even possible? There was something ever so strange about that pipe. She reached out softly, as if ready to take Seymour's hand, but instead laced her fingers into the smoke. At the moment, it didn't seem like an odd action. It took a while.
"Oh! Oh, I'm sorry," she said, retracting her hand, "I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I've never come across the plague myself..." and now she knew she was safe herself "...but losing someone is never easy."

XXXThe smoke flicked upon contact and disappeared, but moments later, it returned. Wrapping around Seymour's hand like a child hanging onto their parent. Seymour blinked and gave Shati a slight nod, still not paying attention to the smoke.
XXX"I-it's fine. It's in the past. Not like it could be changed." he replied with a slight sigh, looking down once more. It was then that he realized the smoke was leaking out, and gave a slightly glare of disapproval at the smoke. As if it had a mind of it's own, the smoke slowly retreated back into Seymour's pocket.

Still Shati watched the smoke, and when it disappeared she even managed a little giggle. Then there it was again, and there it went. Enough was enough. They had to get away from the depressing subject matter anyway, so why not ask?
"Just how do you do that?" she as asked, eyes bright as she turned up to look Seymour in the face.

"The pipe naturally does it." Seymour replied, brushing his bangs to the side to get a better look at Shati. Whatever was left of the smoke's existence had disappeared as it contains itself within the space of Seymour's pocket. How it could do that, not even Seymour knows. "It had been releasing trails of smoke since my grandfather died. I haven't used it once, but it continues to release smoke as if in use. I...really don't understand why it does that."
He took the pipe out once more, allowing both himself and Shati a better look at the silver Kiseru. It continued to release a thin trail of smoke as it came out of Seymour's pocket, slowly drifting and curling around the man's hands.

Shati narrowed her eyes and looked still to the magic smoke. If Seymour was a Mage it might make sense, but he was a man of scientific mind. What was the reason for a magical plume of smoke upon a loved one's death? Magic? Spirits.
"That's quite strange," she admitted, looking back up to Seymour, "Very strange indeed."

"I would say it is possessed, but...I'm not sure." Seymour replied, rotated the pipe between his fingers. The smoke released its hold on Seymour from his action, but it returned to curling around his hand the moment the man stopped.
The pipe, as if loving the attention, thicken the smoke once more. It a fellow plague had been around, it would have heard the faint laughter of the plague ridden pipe as it held onto Seymour's hand like a child.

Unfortunately, the bat was still at home, probably sleeping still. Shati may have made the connection herself, but she had never seen a Plague not born from life. Instead she found this a bizarre mystery and smiled again, wanting to touch the smoke but knowing that would perhaps be too close for the shy man. Instead, she looked up to him and nodded.
"Can I offer you something for your travel back to Shyregoed, then? Preserves will keep all the way, and I assume you don't get much fresh fruit in the freezing cold."

Seymour was taken a back by the sudden change of topic, but smiled and nodded, "Yes, that would be nice. It will be a long way home, so I will need plenty. What do you have Shati?"
The man turned his attention to Shati's cart, looking at the variety of food he could take with him back. However, he probably shouldn't pack too much though. If his pack was too heavy, it might make things harder. What to buy? So many to chose from. This might take a while.
Seymour once again pocketed the kiseru, keeping one hand in and the other out. The smoke released from the pipe once again return to its almost non-existent stake the moment it returned to the depths of his pockets.
