Milnth again, Pipith again, and others besides! No matter how Ianath dove and spun and twirled it seemed that they were all so close behind! No, she wasn't ready yet! She wasn't done yet! Gimaeth almost got a forefoot around her tail to pull her back, a flick had him discarded.
Capeth had a taunting second where Ianath might have relaxed her guard, Inaari had a surge of relief that if nothing else there would perhaps be a familiar face when all was said and done. The gold was not having any of it, however. Capeth was very nice, but he wasn't what she wanted!
No, if she couldn't find exactly what she wanted, the queen was going to force them to chase her down!

Milnth rumbled amusement, the young gold was tricky but he hoped that her inexperience would be his gain. He was forced to backwing and hover for a second as the little bronze darted in front of him after his own second near miss, his eyes flashing red at the thought that this one would catch her, but ah.. no he also missed, barely, others joined and almost caught her. He beat his wings hard, hoping his greater experience would hold out and win her for his own this day.

Close again! But so was that sharding brown! If he had to lose - which he wouldn't! - it had better not be to a brown. That was unabidingly insulting. He bugled fiercely and powered on with a strong sweep of his wings. He would win this, and teach them who was best!

He was catching up, but it looked as if quite a few others were already very near to the queen. Tereth spotted one bronze watching and waiting from above, so he decided that perhaps he should wait from below. If the gold were not to notice him until it was too late, he may very well have a chance. But first he needed to catch up just a bit more for that to be a viable plan.

Gimaeth wouldn't forget coming so close any time soon, though he wasn't the only one, and he wasn't the one who had yet come the closest. Milnth was doing frustratingly well. If a Bronze beat him, that was understandable, but being beaten by another brown would be uniquely frustrating.
"Fly faster Gimaeth! FLY!" C'iden yelled, jumping up and down with excitement. He personally wasn't sure he cared who won, it was exciting that Gimaeth had even touched her tail, however briefly. It was so rare that a brown catch a gold, that even that touch was an exhilarating triumph.

Galvanth's patience with the other contenders was wearing thin. While not the youngest dragon in the air, surely, in some ways he had not yet learned the humility to take even a momentary upset gracefully. His rider, on the other hand, knew better. But S'raid would not immediately quell Galvanth's more violent impulses. Letting out a bellow of rage, he took at a swipe at the nearest passing dragon.
Let them mull of that. Unconcerned about checking to see if he had done damage, the Bronze surged onwards, content in the knowledge that, at least, he had large wings and reasonable endurance. If he did not win this Flight, there would be others. But this was no time to contemplate loss, when he had every bit as much of a chance to catch the Queen.
Arrogance had allowed him to overlook these others, but he would not do so again. Angling carefully, he set forth to match Ianath wingbeat for wingbeat-- and knew that his chances were slim. Still, he tried. He was a proud Benden Bronze, and he would show Benden's capacity, win or lose! Letting out a roar, he followed after her.

She was still so far. A little of Brumath's innate pessimism managed to sneak through his flight passion, and for a short while he became more aware, more intellectually aware, of the scene around him. So many males, all after one female. The air so thick with wings he was sure a collision was inevitable. Tragedy, marring this meeting of Weyrs no matter what the outcome. A Weyrleader's bronze? A plot? No. No not a plot. Not here, today. Another day maybe but not here and now, too obvious... Or maybe being so obvious made it perfect? Perhaps -
Suddenly there were claws just inches from his left wing. Brumath veered awkwardly, and then awkwardly again to avoid crashing into any of the other males. That had been Galvanth... Galvanth striving to win, as ever. For himself, for Benden?... For the queen! Giving a roar as the purple in his eyes intensified, Brumath mind was on the flight once more; he would have her!
F'itz had shared his dragon's moment of clarity, and at the near miss he shot S'raid a sharp look. That had been a deliberate swipe! He couldn't imagine it had been directed at Brumath intentionally, unless his lifemate had annoyed the bronze and bronze rider more than he'd realized during their time at Trine that was. No, more likely... More likely...
And thought became impossible again. Fists knotting, the normally sober brown rider snarled in unison with his dragon's roar; the queen was getting away!

And chase he would - close, so close - Ianath was taunting them, and it only made Capeth more determined. Shining, glowing, glorious. He would have her.

Cavenath, being uninterested in mating flights in general, had an odd interest in Ianath's maiden Flight. He had watched his beautiful Sun, the being he adored nearly as much as His (but not quite), getting crankier and crankier...and had hummed softly while watching her blood her kills and then launch into the sky, a cluster of browns and bronzes leaping up after her in pursuit.
He spread his wings wide and bellowed encouragement to the golden Queen - Go go go! T'ronmine, Ianath is flying strong and fast, she is perfect! The big silver may have been uninterested in the mating flight, but his rider was not. Inaari, Ianath's bonded, was his...maybe werymate? They were an item, at the least and he was very concerned about the flight.
So T'ron was doing some glasswork and waiting, nervously, for the results -- and Cavenath was sitting, waiting and watching his Sun easily outdistancing the males that sought her. No chase would be made, but he was there, humming and vibrating with excitement. This would make for a new clutch! A clutch from his Gold!

Galvanth's swipe had Inaari's dismay and Ianath's approval. It was obvious who was in the driver's seat in their relationship at that moment however, as the disapproval did not stop her from flirtatiously sliding over in his direction. It was good that a bronze would be willing to go to violence for her, maybe he was the one she wanted? But before he could catch her, Cavenath's bugle rang out and reminded her what there was, in reality. And what there was were the ever-closing bodies of Milnth and Pipith, who had kept up with her in every way.
Wings strained to bring her away from the mass, but only brought her closer, even to those late contenders. It was obvious that Ianath's speed was falling into stamina, and soon she might actually be caught! Certainly everyone had gotten at least a touch of her golden hide at least once, but she was not giving up yet!
The tension and excitement in the air was palpable. Inaari simply wished that it was over! Her body was on fire, her mind dazed with the onslaught, and the unusual feeling of being one with that great dragon soaring high above.

The Queen's flirtation only egged Galvanth on, as it should be. It brought his determination to new heights, as well as his aggression. He knew that she was favoring him in this moment, as well as how fickle a Queen's favor could be. Taking another swipe, he climbed after her, his eyes (mostly) on the prize. Nothing was going to stop him in his relentless pursuit but the conclusion of the Flight.
And, Faranth willing, it would be favorable.
F'itz's look went largely unnoticed by S'raid, who was rather pointedly ignoring the other contenders, his focus in the air with his big, Bronze monster. They were not going to give up, not by a long shot. Even if it meant ripping a swathe through their opponents, by the Egg! Fiercely, Galvanth clung to the edge he had gained, letting out a bugle for Ianath to hear.
Nothing, nothing could take away from the very fact of her regard, however brief. Like the Queen herself, he was not going to give up. Anger and lust intertwined so closely together that they were near indistinguishable kept him flying, kept him looking for an advantage any advantage. The heat of the Flight was upon him, and he would show them all, he would prove what a Benden Bronze could do!

The other dragons were still pulling away from him. Was there any point, really?... Well, even if not, you had to try. It wouldn't do any good, but he would try. Baring his teeth, Brumath strained to catch up with the pack. He could win yet. He could win yet.
...Realistically, probably not, but they were going to try. So many ahead of them, Galvanth among them... Galvanth and S'raid. Ever since Trine he had really begun to wonder about S'raid. He hadn't said anything yet, he wanted to be really sure, but he was more sure with every day that passed... Galvanth was closer to the queen than they were. "Don't give up! Get after those young idiots!" The queen could still be theirs, it wasn't likely, but she could be theirs.

Gimaeth snarled in frustration as the beautiful, glowing gold swung flirtatiously toward Galvanth. Although it wouldn't have surprised him if one of the chasing bronzes won, he was still drunk on his brush with her, and it filled him with competitive frustration. This was the truth he cared to pursue right now, and although he was all for playing with the team normally, right now the team was Gimaeth and C'iden.
C'iden balled his fists and turned to watch the dragons further, urging his partner on with every fiber. The longer it went the more you could see the intense strain on the riders, craning with the desires of their dragons, and he wasn't immune to it either. He could taste the powerful desire for victory, he could almost see the glowing hide of the Gold ahead of him.

Another close one, but not close enough - no, he had to do better, and he had to do it now. Frustrated by this teasing gold, just within reach and then just out of it again, he surged forward. His rider's encouragement echoed through his mind. He could do this! Pipith roared with intensified urgency.

Th day was not yet won. Not by any means. Capeth stretched his wings, pushed himself - perhaps she was slowing, perhaps - it would be wrong for Galvanth to catch her, disgraceful, and she was teasing the bronze! No, that wouldn't do. He would catch her by his own effort, his strength and speed, not by stooping to sabotage.
L'tan growled low, brows pulling down into a frown.
