"...I'd be happy to keep you company." He said and hazarded a more legitimate smile than before. He glanced inside and prayed that his Mother would stay away from the drink table now...she seemed to be watching with some interest that he was talking to a girl.
Her objections to his 'like' of Demy had been one of their biggest fights after all.
"You are far more enjoyable company than what lies inside as well after all." He nodded

Adira had to laugh at bit at his comment. Following the boy's gaze, it was fairly obvious what he had been talking about. The woman staring was probably his mother, then. "Since you mentioned liking books over people, I assume that parties aren't your favorite thing?"

Adira hoped that she wasn't bothering him with her small talk. Even if she was better than what was inside, maybe perhaps he would have preferred silence. Either way, she'd attempt to keep the conversation going, at the least.

He nodded in answer "Afraid not, I enjoy people watching at times, but having to delve into a crowd of people who care more about your brand of shoe than..." He trailed off and waved a hand trying to think of a good example that he'd read recently. "The unadapted translation of legend of the five rings complete with historical social overviews."
He paused and then looked chagrined. "N....not that that probably sounds fascinating after saying it aloud."

Adira let out a laugh. "It does have a rather unweildy spoken title, I will give you that." She paused and thought about it though. "However, the works surrounding the series that focus on putting them into context with the author's life tend to be quite fascinating, even if I prefer the original series." She smiled. "I've not read that particular work, but it sounds interesting.

When Adira said she'd read, she'd meant it. She was well versed in most things referenced in popular culture, as well as the classics. Lord of the Rings definitely fell into the classics category. Unfortunately, as Perseus she didn't have as much time to delve into books like she used to. She wasn't looking forward to balancing her life as a senshi and her life as a pre-law undergraduate either.

"It's...more of a paper on the books really, it includes theories on how Miyamoto Musashi's "Book of the 5 rings" may or may not have inspired parts of the legend and some of the strategies demonstrated in the battles such as helms deep. The principal of living in the moment for example...ah..." He paused turning red. He loved reading up on strategy...especially now days. That and body language were two of the most valuable 'weapons' in his arsenal though even they had flaws.

"The Hobbit is my favorite from the originals though, I suppose I have an affinity for Hobbits..." he joked and used a hand to indicate his height.

"The name, yes, does tend to hint at more of a professional paper than a book." She paused, listening to his explanation of the theories explained in the paper. "It definitely sounds like the paper is thorough in its explanation of strategy and premise, however. Though, I much prefer comparing the strategies overall to The Art of War, which between the two I feel is better reading, even thought the Book of 5 Rings is more straightforward in its approach." Had she known the boy in front of her was interested in body language theory, Adira could've recommended or borrowed several books from her own private library for reading. It was something that she excelled at as well, both as socialite and senshi.

"I preferred The Return of the King, myself." She did give a laugh at his joke, however. "You aren't so bad, you just don't have the advantage of heels like I do." To illustrate, she slipped off the black pumps, which brought the two nearly to eye level. Adira was only slightly taller than Zac, by no more than three inches. It was even more apparent without the shoes.

"Huh..." He said sounding literately surprised that they were so close in height. "Funny to think they were invented by men...and worn by them originally. " He mused, half caught up by her striking eyes and taste in books.

"Return of the kings was the best of the trilogy... though Hobbit is pleasing as a stand alone" He conceded. "...I was irate that people complained in the theater when he married Arwen." he confessed "You'd think no one read the history at the end of the book."
PostPosted: Thu Nov 04, 2010 9:27 pm

"Well, most people can't be bothered to read things like introductions and addendum's. As far as the heels go...I do rather think they look better on women, regardless of whom they were invented for." She smiled at her jest, but kept her heels off regardless. The tile floor was cold, but it felt nice. Felt better than those heels at least.

"So, Zac Bantock, what other books do you enjoy?" It was nice talking about more mature subjects at one of these parties. Often times, if she tried to say something that contributed to an actual conversation she'd be brushed aside with a 'Well, isn't that insightful' and given no more second thought. It was constantly frustrating to be bumped aside in serious conversation simply because she was a girl.

"Hmm..." He looked considering... "A few you may not have heard of, some you might. I love the Kathryn Dance Mystery novels by Dever, Idlewild by Nick Sagan, the ...Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series by Tad Williams... to... 'How to Lie with Statistics" because it gives you such an idea of how malleable data is... What about you?" He tipped his head curious.

"How to Lie with Statistics is a fascinating book. I'm drawing a blank on titles right now, save for the few law books that I've been reading lately." She paused, trying to recollect a few of her favorite books. "Guiltily, I've always been a bit fond of the Dune Series, and clearly the two we compared before; Sun Tzu's Art of War and the Book of 5 Rings. I'm rather fond of the Odyssey and several of the other traditional Greek tragedies as well." Adira laughed. "Sorry my list is so scattered, its very difficult for me to pick favorites."

His book list was certainly an interesting one. Some of them, she had heard and indeed owned. The other few, however were ones that she might try and find in the future. Zac seemed to have a very similar interest in books.

"Hardly something to apologize for" Zac said with a shake of his head. "Diversity in anything makes life more...fresh and meaningful...why read in a rut, why LIVE in one?" He shrugged and thought. "Someone once said, that their favorite book was the next one, drove me a little crazy at the time but in a way it's very clever." He admitted thoughtfully.

"I have always been interested in Oedipus, I suppose part of that comes from trying to diagram his family tree for a school project. The teacher was less than impressed."

Adira let out a laugh at his mention of diagramming Oedipus's family tree. "That must have been quite the interesting project." The sliding door snapped open with a small amount of noise, and a middle age gentleman peeked his head out inquisitively.

"Ah! Adira, there you are!" He stepped out onto the balcony and smiled, showing his clearly buzzed state. "You know, I have been trying to tell that story about Jason in Milan, and no one can tell it quite like you. You must come in and regale us with it." She nodded briefly before smiling softly. After all, she knew she could only spend so much time away from it all before someone noticed.

"Alright, alright. I'll be in in a second Mr. Levitree." It was enough to shoo away the man, back into the party. "I'm sorry, it seems if I'm being summoned." Adira left the railing, pausing for only a moment to slip back on her heels. It would be no good to return to the party barefoot, after all. She paused in her task when a crash echoed inside. It seems some woman had gotten too drunk and tipped a platter of alcohol.

"It was very nice to meet you Zac. I hope to do it again sometime." She lingered for a second before fishing out a small card from her clutch. It was like a business card, only blank save for her name and number in raised gold ink. Adira leaned in to kiss his cheek before turning to go back into the party.

"Quite alright..." Zac bowed slightly before a look of deep embarrassment flashed over his face. "It seems I have been summoned too... " He said and took the card and the peck on the cheek, which made his cheeks in fact grow warm and he gave her a surprised look.

After she was gone he stood for a moment to let other people collect his mother while he caught his breath and tucked the card safely away.
"... I hope we might meet like this again some time too... Miss Adira." He murmured, before slipping inside to collect his inebriated mother before she made too much greater a fool of herself.
