"Eh... the material things I could get easily on my own. Anything else.. not so much," he said with a small sigh. No matter how much he could wish for it, there was no way for him to have them back. At least he had stopped hoping for it years ago.
Glancing at her as she mentioned stopping with the birthdays, he had to wonder why that would be. Kids that age would normally be ecstatic for their birthdays, where they'd likely be showered with love and gifts. As with his own case, something had to have happen to cause it.
"Hadn't really celebrated my own in ten years.." he added. There wasn't really any point to it anymore to him. It wasn't likely Shaking his head, he tried to shove off the thoughts of the past as he took his bag from the counter.

By the sounds of it, Blade hadn't had an easy childhood himself. While she couldn't guess the exact circumstances, there had probably been a lack of nurturing... Much like her own situation.
"Well, I suppose we have some common ground, don't we?" She offered him a small smirk as she opened the door and held it for him, figuring he wouldn't be far behind. It didn't really matter that he was the guy and she was the girl. Chivalry was dead anyways, so there was no reason why she couldn't hold open the door for him.

Once he had his things, he went on after Riyo as she held the door open.
"Thanks, and yeah.. seems that way. Not that often that I run into someone where that happens, at least not when it comes to the past," he mused. He doubted that her parents had been brutally murdered, but he could at least figure that something rough had happened. That in itself wasn't something he found too common with the other students at Nao. It seemed to him, that most of the time, if there was some sort of familial issue with them, it was really something minor. 'Dad cut my allowance again! I hate him!' or 'Mom won't let me go to that party, that b***h!'
It irritated him really that they took their families for granted like that.
That aside.. it felt kinda nice to just be talking somewhat casually here. He was still somewhat surprised that she had spoken to him, but he wasn't going to complain.

"Yeah... Past..." Riyo's eyes looked to the concrete as her mouth spoke that simple word. Her 'past' as it were... Was still very much present. All of the bad was still there with a lack of good... Though that had been changing since she met Klyde and Mitsu. At least she had them. It scared her to think she might lose those two like she had so many others... Because of her little secret.
Her footsteps paused as they were on the outside, finally managing to look back at him. "So who are you going with? To the ball, I mean." She figured she could keep this conversation up if he could. It was refreshing to talk to somebody new.

He had glanced at her as she repeated past, tilting his head a bit in the process. It must have been pretty big, whatever had happened to her. Though, as the conversation switched back to the ball, he paused and glanced away.
"Eh... no one really. I'll probably just pop in to see all the costumes, maybe grab some free food, then leave," he answered. That was more or less what he had done the past couple years. There just wasn't much of a point for him to hang around a dance by himself.
Blade was about to ask her the same but he refrained. More likely than not she was going to go with Klyde. Speaking of that guy, the thief wasn't sure what to make of him any more. Originally he thought that something had to be up, and the things he had found definitely pointed at that. But he just wasn't sure anymore. He didn't really see the guy enough to know but this would be one hell of an act to keep it up this long without stumbling. Either way tossing accusations around wasn't going to get him far right now.

"Well, that's better than what I usually do. Most of the time I don't even bother with these things..." Sure, she could be the broad that pokes into his business and asks if he even tried to go with anybody, but it really wasn't any of her business. If he wanted to go with someone, he probably would've asked them by now.
"Just a bunch of pretentious assholes getting together to shove their ego's in everyone's face. That's how all rich people are. But you're right. At least there's free food."
Pausing, she looked around to see if there was anything else she needed to do. "Guess I'm probably gonna grab something to eat."

"Yeah no kidding. Parties alone aren't that great on your own but with all the pretentiousness there's really only so much a guy could take," he said while shaking his head.
"Speaking of food... that does sound good right about now," he uttered while looking around as well to see what was in the area. Seeing how he was running out of money he had a few options. He could eat somewhere cheap, snag a wallet quick, or both of the above.
Well... it wouldn't hurt to pick up a wallet right about now. As some of the others passed on by them, he quietly and swiftly did his sleight to relieve one of the passerbys. In the next moment or so, he was glancing at it quick. The guy had twenty bucks on him so that wasn't too bad. While he did so he was trying to figure out if he should ask Riyo about food exactly. As much as he'd like to, it probably would come off wrong so he held back.

Another thing they apparently agreed on. Well how do you like that? Looking down to see what food joints were close and incidentally missing Blade's neat little hand trick, she smiled.
"Wanna go grab a bite then?" She asked and finally looked back to him. "If you're not busy and don't mind the company."

Glancing up at her again as she offered to grab some food, his expression lit up a bit. Even if he didn't have a crush on her, he probably would have still been thrown off a bit. People rarely ever invited him for anything.
"Ah sure. Doesn't hurt to have some company for once," he replied with a smile. Pocketing the swiped wallet, he looked around again.
"Is there something you have in mind? I'm not all that picky so anything is fine right now."

"Lets go somewhere cheap. It's been awhile since I've had a heart attack on a bun." What with all the treating Klyde did. "'Bout time I got to spend my own ******** money."
She supposed she appreciated him always wanting to pay for everything, but it drove her crazy how he just threw money out the window like that. She'd told him before she didn't need anything extravagant, but he just kept it up.

"Sounds good to me," Blade replied though he quirked a brow at the money comment, "Someone been treating you a lot lately?"
If that were the case, his guess was that it was Klyde. He supposed it could have been Mitsu as well, but it didn't seem as likely to him.
With a quick glance around once more, he spotted a Burger King on the corner. He was about to head on over, but paused momentarily to see if Riyo was coming.

"Yeah..." Riyo said reluctantly, following behind him as he took the lead. "Klyde takes me out a lot to these fancy places and spends money like it's water... I keep telling him I don't really need any of that and he just shrugs it off." Why was she telling him this? Just making conversation, she supposed. "All the money I have I earned myself, so I've always kept a close eye on how and where I spend it... So it's frustrating to see somebody just throwing it around like that."
Now she felt bad for complaining. Most girls would give an arm and a leg to be treated like that... "I dunno... It's just hard for me to make him understand that I don't need expensive dinner outings or gifts to be happy..."

So it seemed that he was right. Technically despite his financial outlook he could probably shower someone or several people with expensive things, but it'd take a fair amount of work to do so. It almost seemed like it would be nice to be able to toss it around like that. Almost.
"It probably has something to do with coming from a rich family.. kinda the same vein as what you said about Christmas," he mused, "I don't really know him so I can't say for sure that's the reason."
"I wouldn't be too surprised if most of the kids at the school don't really know what it's like to have to earn what you have..." he added. Though he supposed that his method isn't exactly a way of 'earning' money or goods.

As they made it to Burger King, Riyo walked in and approached the register. "I guess so." She shrugged, trying not to imagine how Christmas would be with him. She didn't know what she'd do if he showered her with gifts. Maybe she could take some precautions to make sure that didn't happen.
"Sometimes I wonder what they do after high school..." She mumbled and told the cashier her order, tossing the money up on the counter.

Stepping in line after Riyo, he wasn't really sure about the thing she mumbled either. For that matter, he wasn't sure what he would do once he got out of high school.
"Don't even know what I'd do," he uttered. Blade supposed if everything went well, he'd finally inherit some of the things from his parents but what then?
"Don't suppose you have any plans for the future?"
