Very slowly the door opened, the sun outside casting an elongated shadow of the Vice Captain into the room. Lerato looked completely different from the last time the two friends had met. His hair was longer now, unkempt and unruly. Facial hair now casting an ever present shadow along the ridge of his jaw line. Even his eyes, which had been a bright vibrant blue just a few months ago, now gave off an eerie darkness in their glacier blue depths. "Hey Tez." His voice was almost ghost-like, though whether it was from his recent bout with Fefnir and the resulting time in the fourth division, or if it was just his adjusting to the new position was impossible to tell. "How ya been?" For a few seconds he contemplated moving over to the couch and sitting down, but then he thought of his wounds opening again and thought better of it. After all, he didn't need to try and explain to Captain Aoi why he was bleeding so soon after his surgery, especially since he was supposed to be taking it easy.

Pulling out a small flask he took a long drink and sighed. "Long time no see, eh?" He asked, ending his question by screwing the top back on to his flask. "You know, I don't think I ever got the chance to congratulate you on making Captain. So, you know... congrats." He chuckled and slipped the metal container back in to his pocket. "So how's life been treating you?" Leaning back against the door frame he took some time to look around the office. 'Not bad.' Looking from one wall to the next he realized just how little he really knew about his friend, a smile placed ever so lightly on his features as he took in his surroundings. "To think that I almost joined the ninth division back in the day."

Tezuka watched Lerato lazily, plotting heavily on the couch that served as a bed for the Captain of Squad 9 and smiling a little as Lerato congratulated him on his promotion. "Eh, it ain't nothin' too big t'fuss about. But thanks." He chuckled a little bit, picking at something on his knee and examining it with a criticizing gaze. "Decent. I think I killed the squad, though. Bein' lazy n' all, but that's just me. It'sno fun t'get this in perfect workin' order anymore. Gotta keep myself busy somehow." Another chuckle rolled from his mouth as Lerato continued, speaking of how he would have joined the squad back in the day. "Then who woulda been my replace in 1st?! Can't 'ave the cap'n lieutenant-less now can we? He'd probably get himself killed or somethin' without a babysitter." Tezuka joked, knowing full well what the Red Man was capable of and how many times he himself had been close to death at that very same man's hands.

IT wasn't really a sobering fact as much as it was humbling, seeing the future generations of shinigami taking up the mantles of those long gone. He was happy for Lerato, but in a way most people would find sadistic. "One day yer gonna sittin' in his shoes, or mine."

"I guess that's easy for you to say. You've always had an air about you that shrugged off things as large as this." He swung out one arm to punctuate his sentence. "Though I do have to agree with you, I sort of had the feeling that the squad was deserted when I was walking through. For a while I thought I had stumbled across some of the Sereitei's abandoned buildings that were waiting to be tore down. Gives me an idea though..." He grinned, a small sparkle glinting in the corner of his eye. "I know it'll be a few days before I'm up on me feet one hundred percent and all, but what do ya say to a friendly inter-squad matches? You see, we have a new guy in our neck of the woods, and I'm afraid he hasn't had much of a chance to practice with his shikai. If you'd like, I could try and get permission from the Captain. Think of it this way, you could give your subordinates something to do and if nothing else, you'd get a good chuckle out of watching us get our asses reamed, eh? So what'dya say?" Lerato asked, slightly egging Tez on.

It was only after the Vice had ended his slight rant that he was able to process the words that seemed to hell bent on ringing in his ears. 'One day yer gonna sittin' in his shoes, or mine.' "What in the bloody hell are you talkin' about Bloodsport?" He barked, face tightening into something that appeared to be a mix of terror and physical pain. "The old man can't leave yet...neither of you can. You don't have anyone to step into your shoes. There are some talented shinigami out there, but we'd be left at a huge disadvantage!" Lerato could feel his blood pressure spike suddenly, a warm sensation spilling down the front of his bandages, and a sense of light-headedness washing over him. After slowly sliding down the door and grabbing his head he murmured something indistinguishable under his breathe. Rolling his head back on his shoulders he came to let it rest against the cold wooden support behind him, eyes closing as he took in the pain that now cascaded through his body. Without realizing it his lips turned up into a smile. More and more he was coming to see the pleasure that accompanied his recent bouts of pain.

It was Tezuka's turned to gain a new expression, leaning forward to lay his palm against his knee and his other arm against the adjacent thigh, the blue discoloration in his iris giving him a fiery gaze in his normally cool eyes. "I didn't say right fawkin' now you barvy nutmunchkin! Jesus Christcakes that ham sammich 'r retirement ain't that good looking just yet...!" Tezuka sighed and leaned back, propping his right foot up on his left knee; and leaning his head against the back of his left hand. The frown stayed, but the fire in his dwindled and died, coming back to his usual blank stare. "As fer fixin' up the squads t'fight each other I'm game. We need to kick each other's asses every once 'n a while anyways. Might as well start early and look like hipsters 'r some s**t." He sniffed loudly, eying Lerato's wounded frame absently. The boy could take care of himself. No need to ask him why he's still limping around like a wounded drama queen. "Fef already approve a' this?"

"Would you calm down, you senile old b*****d! All you had to say was that you hadn't planned on retiring yet, that's all." He snapped, unfazed by his superior officer rant. Tezuka might have quite the mean bark, but he was generally a pretty nice fellow. "Hipsters...huh" he snorted, shaking his head slowly from side to side. "Good. I'll let you get to work getting your people ready then. Nah, I haven't ran it by him yet, but don't worry. I'm usually pretty good at convincing people of things, and you know Fefnir. It won't take much talking before he's on board." He huffed as he stood up and made his way to the door. "Do me a favor? Stop staring at me like I'm some weak child. I'm sure you remember how the Red Man can be but this time there was something different about him... I saw something, Tez. Something I thought I'd never see again... An old captain, his old captain... It almost makes me wonder what the hell is going on with him..." His voice trailed off, his hand reaching out to take hold of the door knob. "Send me word once you've set everything up on this side. Take care of yourself, Bloodsport." And with that Lerato was gone.

Tezuka watched Lerato leave, weary about his words of Fefnir's current condition. He had always been close to the man, both of them in fact, and it pained Tezuka to think that his age was finally catching up with him. But the thought dissipated as a familiar blueish grey coat came into view, Tezuka's free hand coming over to gently pet Gino's head, causing the cat to stir. It purred in an upward inflection, autumn eyes staring up at Tezuka sleepily as he scratched behind the furball's ears and then under and around his neck. His fingers tickled at the sensation of vibrations caused by Gino's purring, the cat's tail flicking every so often in complacency. " 'Course not. The ol' man'll never go down without a fawkin' fight." He chuckled to himself, speaking in soft tones as the cat migrated to his lap and set about pawing his crotch to soften it up. It laid down quietly and curled up into a ball as Tezuka slowly brought his hand about its soft frame, petting Gino as he sat pondering his own amusement in muted silence.

Yomiko puffed out a small sigh, nodding her head to the beat of the song that was playing through her headphones. The soulful sounds of Substantial's 'Spark My Soul' could barely be heard from her dark headphones. 'Let the music be the fuse that sparks my soul...' She mouthed the lyrics as she walked through the 9th Division, clearly bored and having nothing to do. Nothing was going on in her squad or in the Seireitei, period. The boredom was getting to her. If she knew things were going to be like this, Yomiko was sure she would have left already but since she had a 'responsibility', she couldn't leave as she pleased.

Sitting around the office was not her thing. How everyone else could do it, it was beyond her.

That was not apart of her 'bucket list'. The whole Captain thing but now wasn't the time to ponder on those thoughts. Letting out a small yawn, the woman arrived at her destination, The Captain's Office.... or at least, that's what she remembered. The last time she came to this place, there was a half-naked guy in the office and she could remember herself becoming rather flustered. That whole experience was something that she would not like to remember.

Yomiko was certain that the guy thought she was some type of freak.

A groan escaped her lips, thinking about turning around and finding someone else to mess with. What if he did think she was some sort of creepy *****?! Wait--- Why was she so concerned about what this guy thought of her? Who WAS he anyway? Her facial expression twisted up into one of disgust at the thought of her spazzing out for no apparent reason. He wasn't anyone. Just a guy. No one special, though she had to admit that she was curious about him.

Removing the sour look from her face, she pushed the door open slightly, poking her head between the threshold and the door. Golden eyes looked around the room, taking in the details of the office before they landed on the very person she was looking for. A small smile appeared in her face before she spoke up. "I was afraid you wouldn't be in clothes, kid." She stated, a weak chuckle followed. "Who would want to walk into that... Wa--- Wait. S-Sorry if this might be rude, but I forgot your name... kid..."

Tezuka looked up as the door opened, clearly too distracted with lavishing Gino with love to realize he had an incoming visitor. His eyes, originally moving towards a coldly dispassionate gaze, shifted to a soft curiosity as his guest showed herself in. 'Well hello again.' He smiled, that characteristically lop-sided grin that defined him as a punk in the eyes of even the younger crowds coming into the ranks of the Gotei 13. His roguish facial expression withered just a tad as Yomi inquired about his name, a small defeatist feeling squirming its way into his mind as he regarded her. He hadn't forgotten her name. Hell her hadn't forgotten that figure either! Damn it was nice... His eyes wandered for a second, drinking her in with a hungry stare that could easily be mistaken for absentmindedness on his part.

He blinked a few times, regaining his lax state of being as she called him 'kid'. "Kid?" He said with a temporary frown. Not in his many years had he ever been called that, even when he was in the Academy. It was, disheartening to say the least. "I ain't no kid, girly. And the name's Tezuka. Tezuka Matsushima. Hasn't changed since th'last time you 're in here." That last little part did make him chuckle at himself, though. He lightly combed the top of Gino's head as the cat investigated the intruder from a distance, sniffing the air as he stared at Yomiko and then back up at Tezuka. Tezuka sniffed, smiling down at him and lightly tapping his nose before looking back at Yomiko. "Guess it's good I'm wearin' pants this time at least, eh, Yomi?" Another smile solicited from his lips as he stared up at her with those off-color blue eyes.

Yomiko scoffed at the 'I'm not a kid' comment. Oh boy, if only he knew. A few moments later, she completely stepped into the office. It would have been weird, standing in the cracked door, having a conversation with this guy. She slowly closed the door behind her, chuckling softly. "You're a kid to me. Well, most of you guys are." Yomiko stated and left it at that. She didn't plan on divulging any more information than that. Puffing a small stream of air out of her mouth, the woman found herself looking around his office once again as if she were trying to find something else to say. Normally, conversations came easy but with this guy, it just seemed a bit awkward. No, it wasn't awkward, she just didn't have anything else to day.

That was odd.

Finally noticing the low hum of a song resonating from her earphones, Yomiko took off the headphones on her head and allowed the item to dangle around her neck. When her gaze finally came back to Tezuka, another one of her weak smiles graced her lips. "Eh, sorry about that. The only thing I could really remember about you was your upper body. I couldn't remember your name...," She scratched her brow, chuckling nervously. "And this is why you shouldn't parade around half-naked! People get too consumed with this...," Yomiko pointed at her upperbody. "That they won't pay attention to you! Ah... well, enough with that... So! Tezu~ Tezzzuukkkkaa~ How are you? Don't you get just bored sitting in this office all day?" Yomiko pursed her lips, finally noticing the small cat in his lap. Her eyebrow arched in curiosity but decided not to question it.

Tezuka smiled, being tossed back into his seat as a muffled chuckle escaped him, his well-toned abdomen muscles bulging as he laughed about Yomi motioning to him doing something that was quite common and natural for Tezuka. Running around with the minimally acceptable amount of clothing was how he stayed comfortable. As she continued to talk Gino slipped from Tezuka's lap, scooting silently over to Yomi. He approached her ever so slightly, his front right paw not touching the ground as he quietly sniffed at her before deciding to take another step. He continued this pattern until he was almost all the way in front of her, finally straightening up and rubbing his head gently against her leg, letting out a small series of mews that were barely audible before rubbing his entire body against her.

Tezuka's eyes moved to watch Gino preform this ritual upon meeting a new person, answering Yomi in turn without looking at her. "The only reason I trudge around here in my skivvies 's 'cause there ain't really nothin' to do 'round here right now. s**t's retard quiet 'nd, yes, I'm bored outta my mind waaay too of'en." His gaze turned away from Gino as the cat made his approval of Yomi's presence, now looking at her directly. " But it does give me time t' do all that paperwork that piled up while I was busy earlier. Nice no longer bein' captain t'be honest...hated the job. Now I got all the time 'n the world to do what I want", he paused for a second and sort of gave her a mischievous look, a smile hinting at his lips," and pursue things I could never pursue until now."

Gino pawed at her leg now, not declawed but somehow managing to rubbed at her without extending them. He did this a few times, sitting on his haunches and staring up at Yomi as if waiting for her to pick him up. He let out another small mewl tilting his head slightly at her.

"You aren't a Captain anymore?" Was the first thing that came out of her mouth, her eyes now on him instead of the animal that was approaching her. Her brows were stitched together, a look of confusion on her face. Just what did he mean by that? If he wasn't a Captain anymore, why was he still in this very office that she appeared in before? Shouldn't he be somewhere else? In any case, shouldn't the real Captain be in this office?

So, does that mean this guy is a freeloader? Lucky. b*****d.

She shifted herself, frowning slightly as the cat rubbed itself against her. Yomiko's gaze trailing away from Tezuka and onto the cat, who was trying to get her to pick it up. Her face turned into a grimace. This was one of the things that she did not like and it was cats. There was no explanation needed. As much as she wanted to softly kick the small animal away from her, she refrained from doing so. Ignoring the cat, she walked further into the office. "That's a shame. Just when I become a Captain... somehow you aren't a Captain anymore...," She scoffed. "We would have been a great team, I bet. Of course, I don't know anything about you, so that statment isn't accurate...," Yomiko broke out in a nervous laugh as she trailed over to the couch and sat down. "I mean, I'd like to get to know you better 'cause... you know... I mean...," The woman paused. "Bonding?! Yeah, we should totally bond 'cause I don't have anything to do and... you don't... so yeah... bonding."

And then it just got awkward, well, for her anyway.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 1:03 pm

"Tch tch tch." Tezuka drew Gino's attention back to him, smiling at both the cat's quick retreat to his lap and to Yomiko's want to bond. He laid his hand gently on the cat's side as it settled into his lap, blue eyes slowly coming up to look at brown eyes on the face of a woman he would very much enjoy bonding with in all sense of the work. She was very beautiful, even the nervousness of her laugh was appealing. The way she made herself comfortable, assertive. She knew what she wanted and wasn't particularly afraid to go after it. Was he on her list of procurement? This thought made him smile at her. Genuine, the corners of his eyes creasing as he blinked, looked down for a second, and then back up to her. "Sounds good t'me. I don't really got much t'do, as you say, so that would be ah good use a' my time.

Tezuka leaned back against the couch, his right arm coming up to rest on the back's top as he addressed her earlier inquiry. "Kinda made the decision myself t'not be a Cap'n anymore. Just plain boring if you ask me." He shifted, petting Gino lightly. " I'm still stickin' around t'help Zaine, though. Kid's good, but he don't have a Lieutenant yet so I'm helpin' out with paperwork n' filing most of the time." He chuckled a little bit, realizing he just made himself sound like a glorified secretary. But no matter. He really didn't care about technicalities. Zaine did need his help and he had nothing better to do with his time so there was really no alternative to demolish his ever-growing boredom. But, maybe, this strikingly beautiful woman could help alleviate some more of that boredom. He could only hope, staring into those eyes. He smiled at her again.
