The little cub was startled out by yet another. Part of her naturally pushed closer to Delphia's chest as she retreated a bit at the approach of the genet. She had been so afraid for so long, it was almost natural for her to respond in such a skittish nature, even to a friendly face. Still, the soft, almost musical voice of the genet was pleasing to the ear, and her smile looked genuine. Furthermore, Delphia didn't seem concerned which was a good sign. Already the little black and white cub was beginning to form a bond with the kindly female. . . It wasn't something she did out of choice, but instinct, and she wasn't going to fight it.
" . . . h-hello, Raska." She added softly after giving the female a wary look. Still, her muscles began to relax some and she scooched a little closer to the smaller feline. She'd never actually seen a genet before, or many other species outside of lions and leopards, so her red eyes were slightly rounded and curious. "It's . . . It's nice to meet you." She added quietly, almost a whisper before she buried her face shyly against Delphia's leg once more.
For awhile, she stayed put, happily curled up against both genet and lioness. She couldn't remember the last time she'd been so warm or felt so . . . safe. It was a disconcerting feeling and she worried that maybe, just maybe, Delphia might change her mind. She didn't want to have to lose anyone again.
How much time passed, the little cub wasn't sure. With Delphia's grooming, and Raska's soft purr and closeness, Xieros was beginning to feel the lure of exhaustion. But before her eyes had a chance to close and sleep overwhelm her, her ears heard the approach of another. Ears flicking she jerked her head up suddenly, and spotted the familiar form of Tangir. The large lion was still slightly intimidating to Xieros, who couldn't help but be afraid the larger males of her species. Adenru had been a big lion too . . . .
Still, Delphia seemed not at all concerned. And what had he brought but meat? Oh, glorious meat! Her sleep was pressed aside by the sheer desire for food. Glorious, glorious food. Even though her eyes were wide, she squirmed and struggled to get over Delphia's paws and push herself closer to both Tangir and the rabbit.
For a moment, she sat there, starving and mouth watering but refusing to touch the kill without being instructed to do so. Her eyes danced from the kill, to the large lion, and back again. She knew what happened when one took food out of turn, but it was so close. She was desperate for a bite, but absolutely, positively refused to eat until instructed. So there she sat, the pathetic little figure, too well trained and terrified of what might happen if she did wrong and the rabbit wasn't meant for her.
((Psst. Depending on your next post, you can just assume she dives in to it as soon as Tangir gives her the encouragement to eat. xD ))

Tangir could not take seeing the sorry little form waiting there so patiently while drool kept her swallowing. He leaned over and breathed gently, warm breath a kiss on the top of the cub's head. "Eat, little one, I did not bring it for anyone but you." He padded past her to sit beside the reclining Delphia, sharing a pained look with her before turning to watch as their adopted daughter dove hungrily into the viscera. It did a heart good to see the child eat, though it was clear many more such meals would be necessary before she filled out properly.

Delphia watched carefully as the cub gobbled down the meal Tangir had brought. She was concerned that Xieros might swallow something she shouldn't from the prey's body, or choke on a bigger bite than she should have tried to swallow. But eventually the eating slowed as the tummy rounded out, bulging with what probably was the first full meal she'd had in possibly weeks! The very idea made the lioness want to cry or roar in rage. No child should have to suffer starvation. This one certainly would never suffer it again.
After a time, Delphia called her little cub from the mostly eaten meal. "Xieros, come away. If you eat any more you will pop." Her tone was gentle, her eyes laughing, though there was a skin of concern and worry over it all. Moving slowly, so as not to startle the babe any more, she reached a paw and drew the tiny body to herself. "Come little one," she murmured softly, nestling close around her once more. The sky was beginning to lighten with the weak beginnings of false dawn. They'd all had a long night, now coming to an end with the promise of a brilliant and welcoming day. Now was the time to doze, to let the youngster sleep, so that all could be rested and ready to meet what life had in store for them from here on. "Sleep now, my Xieros, and we will watch over you."

Xieros gobbled up the food, hardly able to slow down even as she took on more than she could properly chew. It was far from being lady like, but she couldn't resist the fresh meat laid out before her. It was only when she heard the soft voice of Delphia call her away that she stopped, mid chew, and looked over. Her ears automatically flattened as if she were being reprimanded, and with a swallow and final wistful look at the carcass, she obediently crept over to the lioness' side.
Of course, she wasn't exactly light on her sore paws. With her stomach bulging from the food she'd inhaled, the small cub took to waddling instead. Still, she did remember her manners, and ever so shyly glanced back at Tangir. " . . . th-thank you, s-sir . . . for l-letting me eat." She stumbled over her words, not sure if she was allowed to speak out of turn, but not wanting him to think her ungrateful either. Honestly though, the poor cub almost felt sick from such fresh food. Her stomach was unsure what to do with it.
Still, a look back at Delphia and she knew that she might sleep well this night. Xieros couldn't resist a yawn and tucked herself close to Delphia. The heat of her body and her soft words, encouraging her to rest as she was watched over was unusual for the cub. No one had taken this much interest in her before. It was still rather unusual but . . . .it was certainly hard to resist. Eyes heavy, the young cub was barely able to murmur a ". . .thank you too, Del. . . .phia. . .." Before sleep overwhelmed her.
