"I'm fine you both don't want one," Donovan replied, "What matters is what you both feel."
Of course Donovan was the man who tried to get out of a wedding, so he was perfectly fine with the idea. He knew his mother was not going to be a happy camper but he didn't care at the moment.

Earendil smiled sheepishly. Of course he probably should have asked Lin rather than Donovan ... but he had grown up in a culture where the parents' desires were what mattered more than others - in some matters, at least.
"Of course," he murmured. He touched three fingers to his forehead and bowed deeply. "Thank you."
He straightened, then hesitated, then murmured, "I should probably be going ... I have no idea how much time is passing without me back home."

"Probably quite a number of days," Donovan replied with a nod, "I bet anything your mother does not know you're here, you better head back before people begin wondering where you went to."
Even if Earendil had told people he'd be gone for a few days it wasn't like anyone saw Earendil actually leave, which might be a problem.

"There are some things my mother is better off not knowing," Earendil quipped. He smiled. "But you are right. I do have to be getting back. I told them I would be gone, but I did not know how long, and I don't want them to question me too much when I return. Thank you again, Donovan. I look forward to seeing you again."
He paused, and then added, "I don't suppose you might be able to convince the others in the next room not to tell Lin that I was here?"
He didn't know how much the young children would understand, or if they would be able to keep the secret.

"You're lucky, the only person who would tell is the one who can only mew," Donovan told him with a smirk.
Of course it went without saying that sometimes Iris' basic understanding was questioned even though it was obvious she was quite bright.
"I'll tell the others to keep it a secret."

Earendil smiled with relief. "Thank you," he said again, heading towards the door. "Thank you very much. I must go quickly now ... thank you, Donovan, and good buy for now."
He bowed once more before leaving the room quickly and heading back to the portal room.

Donovan watched as Earendil left the room and waited until he was sure the man was out of ear shot before chuckling. He knew about Lin's little gift too, and so nothing amused him more than nothing the couple were both thinking about the same thing.
Ah what he wouldn't give to be the fly on the wall for that.
