First, as said before, it will never happen. 4Kids will only buy stuff that is extremely popular already. Few people know of Touhou. Only a few people in my major know it and that's because I have pimped it as a hardcore videogame for hardcore ********. Also, 4Kids AFAIK will only buy something that is based around an anime, and for now there is no official Touhou anime.
However, if for some reason the universe divides by zero and it happens, I think the fandom would be divided in two. One side will be the 13 year old touhoutards whose first anime was Touhou (I'm positive 4Kids would commission an animation regardless of whether there is one or not), who would basically be like today's narutards. The other side will be the oldfags who used to lust for Sakuya long before 4Kids ruined it forever, talking about the "good old Touhou" while trying their best to ignore the "ruined Touhou" and facepalming at 4Kids's every single move, secretly doing stuff like fan-games, fan-comics and fan-videos under 4Kids's noses.

Also, if you ask me, Touhou is pretty alive. It's not dead and it's still what it used to be.
Then again, I do draw a separation between the work and the fandom. And so far I haven't seen any stupid newfags who think Touhou is an anime and I see no reason to get pissy about that, it's easy at first to think weeb stuff in general == anime. The only thing that would ruin the fandom would be something like an extremely mainstream explosion, and I don't think this will happen anytime soon seeing as how this whole s**t is based on a bunch of extremely hardcore games.
