Iosef set down the remaining pup, taking a moment to look at the three of them side-by-side. They all took spectacularly after their father, he noted. It made him smile a little, to see so little of Varia in her children; already, in his mind, they were becoming less Varia's Children and more simply Casimir's Children, and that softened him. Besides, how could you regard a newborn with anything but awe and accepting love?
"I'll come with you, if you want," he said, following Seraphin's advisement to speak to the queen. It was a showing of solidarity and courage, that Iosef would volunteer for such a mission. But he had grown bolder in recent times; his advancement of position had helped a great deal, as had -- in its own way -- his tryst with Tui.
Tui. No. Best not to think of that just now.

Seeing the pups at Seraphin's belly, their automatic nursing and the incredibly tender way she moved with them, began to calm Casimir in something of a more permanent way. His face softened, and he felt something incredibly important rushing up within him, like a sudden flood. They wouldn't just be safe here, with her; this was the best place they could be. If he'd had the leisure to, he might have moved himself to tears, but it didn't quite seem appropriate, so instead he simply nodded at Seraphin's advice, feeling the mantle of the Good Slave settling over him, correcting his posture and quieting his voice. Turning to Iosef, he pulled an undecided face. "That's very kind of you, but..." But Varia is a pit trap of a subject just for me, and you might complicate it even further. He shrugged, a little helplessly. "You're welcome to come."

Iosef paused, sensing a hesitation in Casimir's tone; he tilted his head, glancing back at Seraphin and the infants before returning his attention to the large male before him. He was used to insinuations of uncertainty like that in Tui, and would have known how to react; but with Cas, this was unfamiliar territory, and he wasn't sure how properly to respond.
"I'll walk with you there, at any rate," he said, and his tone was grimmer than he intended. "In case we are intercepted."

Cas felt his spirits darken once again at Iosef's tone; he dreaded having to see his days in terms of strategy and intrigue. Surely it was only a half-step less unpleasant than the angst and waffling he'd been using to function the last few months. But, it doesn't bear thinking about, not more than you absolutely have to. He nodded his assent (remembering, after the fact, that Iosef technically outranked him), racking up a winsome little smile for Seraphin. "I suppose that's next on the list, then." He sought out the she-wolf's gaze and made sure he held it, not really 'trying to' as much as believing he was communicating the extent of his gratitude through it. "Thank you, Sister."
That done, he turned toward the center of the den site, startled as he did so by the spark of apprehension at seeing Varia there somewhere...his eyes stung at the awful things that followed, and it prevented him from speaking further with Iosef. He loped off, not intending to leave the smaller wolf behind, but not quite capable of offering the easy companionship he considered his personal craft. Let this long night continue, then.
