The question caught her off guard, making brown blink. How did she answer that with out scaring her? Well, really there wasn't a way. So it was either tell the truth or lie.
And Melody wasn't keen on lying. Especially to children.
"There are, and don't let any one tell you otherwise." Kneeling down, the white over dress pulling tight against the pink checked dress she wore underneath it, she looked the nine year old in the eye. "There are monsters out there that look for bright stars to steal, and they're horrible creatures."
A gentle hand moved to run against the child's cheek, a soothing gesture. "But don't be afraid. There are also good guys out there, sailor suited heroes that protect those who can't protect themselves. And even if there weren't, I wouldn't let them hurt you. I'd find a way to protect you no matter what."
She meant it to. With or without the ability to henshin, there was no way on Earth she'd ever let something happen to her little chibi.

The answer did frighten her, she paused and looked towards the hall closet, "They won't come in the house though..." She said softly looking towards Melody, "Right?"
She frowned, "So the sailor's aren't terrorists?" She asked curiously, she of course had seen the news talk about them, when she sneaked down to the kitchen for a glass of water. Her parents were always watching the news after she went to sleep.
It was good to know though, she could find one and they'd help her... right? If she ever needed it that is. She paused flinging her arms around Melody, "You're the best Mellie!" She snuggled the older girl. Curls bouncing wildly as she did.

"They shouldn't, I haven't heard of them doing so." A smoothing hand to the back of her curls. Which was true, so far she hadn't heard anything about youma making house calls.
"No, the Senshi aren't terrorists." Pausing, she smiled down at her. "And when did you learn such a big word like that! You need to stop growing up so fast, chibi." She was going to make her feel so old later on.
Holding her close, hand rubbing against the nine-year-old's back, the elder girl smiled. "I try to be chibi, I try. And I'll make sure I give you my new cellphone number before I leave tonight. You can call me whenever, kay?"

Istas sighed a slight sigh of ease. "As long as they don't come in the house. Mommy can be pretty scary when she has to be." She paused, "Oh Grandpappy from the Reservation is suppose to be coming to spend Christmas this year." She said with a grin.
Wondering if Mellie remembered her Grandpappy. "I learned it from the TV! They made the sailors sound bad." She pouted, "There was an orange haired one that was being mean to people!" She remembered sailor Nea from the news, even though it was a while ago getting a glimpse of the lady was bad enough.
"Oh yes, I think mommy might make sure I get a cell phone this Christmas. My old one was dropped accidentally." Istas leaned into the rubbing while looking slightly guilty of accidentally hurting the phone. The rubbing however was pleasant and soothing both.
She tugged on Mellie's arm once again remembering they were heading upstairs to her room. "Oh come on, you need to see my plushies!" She said with a squee, "You haven't seen how big my collection is!"

"I can't promise they won't, sweetie. But so far they haven't." A kiss to her cheek. "Is he now? Well I'll have to stop by and say hello then. Papa's been teaching me me to bake, maybe I'll make some cookies for you!"
Melody didn't know much about the Sailor Nea incident, but it made sense that the actions of a false senshi might ruin it for the rest of them. Letting out a sigh, she shook her head. "Sometimes the act of one can have a lot of people judging the act of many. Remember that you can't always believe what you hear, you have to make your own judgements sometimes."
And then the little one had them drudging up the stairs, tugging on the blonde's arm and Melody could only laugh and follow. "Okay, okay. Calm down, chibi, I'm not going to vanish before your eyes."

Istas nodded, "Good, We don't need mama being scary. If there ever was one to break in I'd hope you would be here." She said softly, "As long as they're not the same ones that live in the closet or under the bed."
She gave a nod, it was bad enough to have to check the closet and bed every night to make sure nothing creepy was under or in them but that's why she had so many stuffed toys! She could hide in the pile when something bad come.
She paused, "You sure?" Istas asked, she was joking, sort of... When they got to her room she turned on the light, the room had been mostly redecorated, however the familiar plush pile was on the bed, and there was one in the corner as well.
"You'll check the closet now? And under the bed right?" She said batting her eye lashes looking up at Mellie with those butter yellow eyes that had that sad puppy dog look to them. Of course poor Millie would have to check both again before Istas would sleep later tonight.

"If a monster ever breaks into your house, you call me on my cellphone and I'll be here as quick as I can, okay? I'll protect you and your parents, nothing will ever happen to you."
Reaching the room, she glanced around and smiled. Such a cute room, it reminded her of how hers used to be way back when. When she still cared for toys and trinkets. "You've got so many more! Maybe for Christmas I'll just get you more coloring books instead." She was half teasing.
Immediately, not even really needing to see the kicked puppy look, Melody checked the closet completely. After she was sure there were no monsters she dropped to the ground as if she were doing push-ups and checked under the bed. Moments later she got back up and smiled.
"Monster free! And I'll make sure it stays that way come bed time too."

Istas smiled, "Good, Mama can be a real bear when she needs to be. But I'd hope she'd not need to be." Istas poked her fingers together. Her mother could be realllyyy scary.
The patched up Pocahontas book and hamster plush were sitting on her table which she sat the new coloring book on and went to fetch the other ones and her crayons and whatever else she could carry. Luckily most of the coloring supplies were in boxes.
"And aww only coloring books!?" She asked with a slight disappointed wail. She liked coloring books, she did but she also liked stuffed animals and tea parties. She sat the books in a stack a took the new coloring book, "Which one do you want to color in?" She asked.

"A good momma must always protect her babies." Kissing the top of Istas' head, she moved to the table to kneel by it so she could color as well. Though she couldn't help a giggle at the little one's disappointment.
"We'll see. You still have a couple of months to go before Christmas. Maybe I'll change my mind."
Looking at the coloring books, it was hard to find which one she wanted to color in. She hadn't colored since the last time she was over. Finding the Disney Princesses coloring book, she decided on it. Some times she wondered what it would be like to be a princess, especially if it might tie to her being a senshi.
Was such a thing possible?

Istas nodded, "Yes but a good momma doesn't have to be super scary doing it." Istas protested, she didn't like it when people were scary, or mean.
She looked at the patched up book, "Will you read Pocahontas to me before bed?" She asked batting her eyes softly. She realized she'd probably have to explain why the library book was so.... unfortunately taped up. However she still enjoyed reading it and would have it at least another day or two before she had to give it up.
She picked up a pink crayon for one of the ponies in the book, "Do you think it matters what color the ponies are?" She noticed the princess book that Melody picked up and chuckled, "I like Jas's kitty." She said, Istas still had trouble saying Jasmine so she just shortened it to a nickname.

"Of course I'll read you Pocahontas," she smiled as she eyed the book. It was in poor shape but it didn't look unreadable, which was good. She didn't quite have the heart to ask why it was taped up like it was though.
"Hmm, I think you should color the ponies however you want." A pause. "Oh, how about you color a pretty one for your mother? I'm sure she'd love a cute little pony colored by her little snow rabbit~"
Flipping through the book, it took a bit until she found a picture she liked that hadn't been colored yet. It was a picture of Aurora in the forest, dancing with the animals. A scene from one of her favourite Disney movies as a kid. Reaching for the crayons, she found the color she wanted and began to color. "Jasmine does have a pretty kitty, she's lucky to have one."

Istas was still a little sad over what happened to the book, however, the older Librarian was nice enough to make the young guy fix it.
She grinned when Melody suggested coloring one for her mother, "OHH! Yes, mother would like that." Istas grabbed a soft mocha brown and found a pony she thought might be pretty colored in a some what native fashion.
Istas paused to see what Melody was coloring. Aurora and animals, "Hey look there's a chipmunk!" She said with a squeak pointing towards one of the animals, "Isn't it..." Asked as if to second guess herself.
"I wish I could have a pretty kitty like Jas... Jasmines." She mispronounced the name, however, she at least had attempted it.

"And I'll make sure it gets put on the fridge for her to see," she replied, not looking up from the coloring book except to grab more colors. So far she was working on the background first.
"Yes that's right, it's a chipmunk!" Turning, she smiled at the little girl. "What other animals do you see in the picture?"

Istas was working on coloring the pony's hair first. She was being careful, deliberately with her coloring, even though she still occasionally went outside the lines she was trying not to.
She looked back at book, "There's two birds... a rabbit and a deer." She was searching the page with a break in her coloring. "And a... skunk?" She said curiously pointing with a crayon not sure which that animal was. "What kind of birds are you going to make?" She asked.

And Istas was doing a fabulous job. Her coloring skills were improving by leaps and bounds. And she made sure to say her praise aloud for the little girl to hear.
"Very good, chibi! You're right. And that was a good guess on the skunk, especially since I hadn't colored him yet." A kiss to her head as she moved to pick up some more colors. "And I don't know. What kind of birds do you think I should make?"
