Just learn your stuff. Yes, you may have to actually practice outside of practice. but thats how you get good.

I don't care if freshmen make mistakes as long as they try. The bigger problem is freshmen who act like they know what's up when they clearly don't. Like you know how online, you're supposed to lurk for a while and get a sense of the way things are run before you post...well, some people need to learn to do that IRL razz

Red and Silver Death So we were jazz running and doing a pass through (Stupidest idea ever) and it's a line of upperclassmen going through freshman (UBER STUPID) and this French Horn freshman veers WAY out, catches my foot and causes me to fall in the middle of a performance. I fell, slid, stood up like a drunk dude, bent over to pick up my mouthpiece and marched on like nothing happened. Also, I landed ON my trumpet >.> As a freshman myself, I declare that you shouldn't hate freshmen because of that. Just because you were "well behaved" in YOUR freshman year, it doesn't mean everybody else will or has to be. You're not perfect, and nobody else is perfect. Just because of that ONE accident you automatically hate freshmen, and you make just as many mistakes as we do. You need to stop your whining, and get over it. I'm not one of those ignorant, stupid, think-they-know-everything, clumsy freshmen, but this topic just pissed me off a little. We're all human, and that leads to one fact: We all make mistakes. Sorry about your tragedy, but your problems aren't everybody Else's problems so you're gonna have to deal with them. I know freshmen can be a little clumsy at times, but, like I said, we're human and we make mistakes. Besides, sophomores and up are called "upperclassmen" for a reason. :l

Red and Silver Death Lori2345 those freeshmen are making mistakes just like you did when you were a freeshmen. remember how the instructors and vets yelled at you for doing something wrong. give them some time and they all will get it. also be more suportive give constructive critisim, offer to spen a few minutes after practice helping them. Actually I never got yelled at. In fact, they actually called me out on my good marching : They did that for most of my freshman class. "Tɧe țϊɱe ʜas ɔɵмe," ҭhє ωᾱℓɹʉs sɑȉδ, "Ⱦѻ ʇᾀʟҝ oʄ мαnץ ʈɦɪйɕs. θϝ sнȏҽs & șɥῐῤs & ȼєɨɩiɲɢ ϖaж ----------------------------------------------------- You sound rather proud of yourself. So are you proud of just hating on freshmen marchers and not even bothering to help points out marching faults in a way that is constructive to better marching? ---------------------------------- Ȱғ cӓɞҍɑʛϵs ᾇȵʠ ɮȋπɠs. Hey now, the freshmen weren't bad in my senior year. They weren't in my junior year either, but my junior year was my first marching season so I can't really say much.
The only problem I had was that one was so sure that I was in their spot. I wasn't. He was yelling at me and it was just awkward.
That's the only instance I remember.

I find the freshmen are all bad marchers an insult! I mean really they haven't been marching for nearly as long of ocurse they aren't going to be good marchers. In my school none of the flutes liked us (the freshmen) they blamed us for everything that happened. well guess what? Now that they didn't make us feel welcomed and always blamed us all 3 of the freshmen that joined up are considering quitting marching band.
Although I must say that that freshman shouldn't have been that far out, but really consider yourself greatful. During one of our performance we had to make an arc and most of the freshmen and sophmores had t obackwards march. One flute fell and we epicly failed with half of our section tripping over her. Trumpets aren't hard to fix. Flutes on the othe hand.......
