Tony smiled a bit, thinking the question was cute.
"I'll do my best to fix it up," he told her, "we'll see if I can't rebind it. We get damaged books all the time, and try our best to fix them, so people can still enjoy them." He smiled reassuringly.
"And if we can't, I'm sure we could find a nice home for it, to retire to," he grinned a bit, meaning, of course, that she might be able to keep it if it was beyond repair and would just get more mangled by being circulated.
Nate watched the girl, wondering why she was looking at him. If she expected another damn hug she could forget it, because he wasn't going to let her catch him this time.

Istas nodded and smiled, "Ohh I didn't know you could fix them! That's neat." She said with a nod. She always wondered how books got fixed.
She paused, "Aww, well maybe you can fix it." She gave a nod, though if he wanted a home for it, "But if you can't I'm sure you'll find a good home for it." She nodded, Maybe Mommy'll offer to keep it when we return it if it can't be fixed.
She loved the story, glaceing at the clock and noticing where the hands were she squeaked. "I need to get back home. I don't want mama to worry about me. I think it'll be getting dark soon..."
She paused and gave Tony a hug. "Thank you Mister!" She said with a grin as she headed around the counter to head out with a wave, she turned to wave goodbye at Nate too.

Tony laughed, patting her on the head when she hugged him. He didn't know if kids liked that or not, but he couldn't think of what else to do, put on the spot. He shook his head, chuckling to himself.
He wondered if Nate had ever been that innocent, or if he had just been born a punk. Surely not? It was hard to imagine, though, and it made Tony regret not seeing it.
He waved bye to Istas as she headed out, looking at Nate and noting the way he turned on purpose to avoid waving back. He sighed and rolled his eyes.
"You really should be nicer to the patrons, Nathan," he said.
Nate gave him such a glare, he decided not to push the matter further.
"Maybe you should just go in the back and sort books. I'll call you when you can take a break."
Nate grumbled and shoved his hands in his pockets, walking to the back room with no intention of sorting books, but leaving Tony to do all the work anyway.
