Fenja leaned back with a wide smile that showed off her good disposition, clearly taking pleasure in being more knowledgeable on this particular subject.
“Oh leopards, too! They’re called hybrids, cats that come from two different species. There are also leopons and leotahs, when leopards mate with lions or cheetahs.” She was growing rather comfortable in this new position of teacher and she was finding this encounter both enjoyable and memorable. She watched Hantan carefully now, curious as to how he’d react to the idea of leopard hybrids. “They’re not that common though and most of them can’t have babies so… I don’t know why.”
Her eyes left Hantan for a few moments as she turned around to look at her surroundings. She would need to find a tree before the night was over – preferable an unoccupied one this time.

Hantan listened in silence, trying to process this new and strange information. He briefly considered the possibility that she was pulling his leg, but she seemed honest. Perhaps he'd ask around when he met someone else, see if they knew about leopons, leotahs and cheetons. It was strange if it was true, but he couldn't see what she would gain by lying about this. And she had shared her fish after all.
He noticed the searching look on her face this time, and was sensitive enough to guess what it was all about. A hyena laughed far off in the distance and he made up his mind.
"Tree's big enough for two," he said, watching the leftovers from his dinner as he spoke. So be it, if she wanted to swipe it during the night it wasn't much he could do anyway. And she had shared her meal... He grinned tentatively at her. "I wouldn't mind sharing since you're a tree-lion and all."

Share the tree? Fenja eyed the young leopard cautiously at first but she couldn’t help but to laugh at the way he’d phrased his offer. She had to admit that it was more than a little amusing to see the leopard’s surprise to her tidbits of information and wondered what else she could use to surprise him further. With a bit of luck, she’d even be able to get breakfast in the morning before she resumed her journey.
“Tree-lion, huh? You know, I guess I’ll stay then.” The bright lioness said lightly, slowly climbing up to a higher branch where she could easily keep an eye on her younger companion. Fenja paced on a sturdy branch for a while before finally settling down comfortably. “In return, I guess I can tell you about other things… about prides or winged lions…? Well, maybe tomorrow.”
The lioness yawned quite loudly before placing her head on the rough bark. It was unlikely that anyone would dare to bother the two felines tonight so Fenja felt relatively safe in this tree. Safe and comfortable. It was only a matter of time before her weariness took over – and by look of things, it wasn’t going to be long before that happened.

Winged... lions? Now he knew she had to be kidding. Hantan wanted to ask more, but his new lion friend seemed tired. She better be there when he woke up, because he wanted to hear whatever she was going to tell him about lions with wings. He was pretty sure it would be entertaining even if it turned out to be completely made up. Or could it be true? Who could come up with something like that? But come to think about it... Before today he wouldn't have believed there were lions that liked to sleep in trees, or that one could hunt fish for that matter.
"Night," he said and settled on a branch of his own, but he had too much to think on to fall asleep right away. He watched Fenja settle above him, a pale lion shape reflecting the moonlight against the dark canopy. Today had been interesting, and he was starting to think he really liked interesting days.-fin-
