Smashing guitars is lame. Really lame.
Guitars are meant to be played, loved, cared for!! surprised They are like a pet! Would you pick up your kitty and smash it into the stage? Noooo. I think not.

Genrally, the only people who get away with smashing guitars are famous people, and famous people don't use shitty guitars. They will smash Gibson custom shop guitars without thinking. I'll smash a FirstAct or two smile maybe a Squier!

I think of it this way:
A guitar = a tool to make music.
A musician = someone who makes music.
A guitarist = a musician who prefers to use/plays a guitar to make music.
If an artist truly wishes to express an idea or paint a certain landscape, as much as he/she might like the tool, the result will always depend on the artist. I'd rather listen to a maestro on a cheap guitar than a rich wannabe who loves his AU$4,000 guitar.
Of course I prefer playing on my current ax, but I have to not depend on it. I wouldn't want to only sound good on ONE guitar and sound s**t on other, decent guitars. xp

if a guitarist wants to smash up his guitar then let them it's their money thier wasting. if any of you have seen the hullubaloo DVD then you'll know at the end of Agitated, matt smashes the guitar onb the floor WITH the camera attached with it. it got he crowd and did it look great from the camera. they also have smashed into a drum kit. broke the skin on the bass drum, smashed a guitar straight through and Amp. Double kicked 2 amps at the same time, thrown a bass on the floor, Broken through an EXPENSIVe projection screen and s**t more, most of this done Before they were really rich and could eve nafford to even play on a Manson. It's just in the Bands natutre to do it, and it makes for a Great live show!
