Euler von Hargrav stepped out of the carriage that had brought him to Aeternum vale, stretching his thin bones and frowning at the estate laid out before him. What a monstrosity...elegant, in a stone kind of way, but he rather doubted even the rich needed so much space. An irritable, snapped order to the man handling his trunk and canvases gave some caution to the man's movements; shaking his head in disgust, Euler stalked to the door and knocked violently.

The door opened, a very tall, stick thin man peering at Euler from behind bushy brows. "Yeeee-ees?" The butler stepped aside, a flurry of servants bustling out to assist with baggage. "Welcome to Aeternum Vale, Master von Hargrav. I trust your journey was without error?"

"Error, no. Comfort? Also no. If I had known the carriage ride would be so damn rough I'd have found myself a horse." Irritation gleamed in the man's cool grey eyes; his usual sloppiness faded with the straightening of his shoulders, a flick of his long bangs out of his eyes. "I trust my room and studio have been prepared according to my instructions? And who the devil are you?"

The butler lifted an eyebrow. "I, sir, am the head butler, Fry." He resisted snorting in the mans face, he'd give him time to adjust before laying into him with unpleasantries. City-folk. His lip curled slightly as he gestured within the house. "Yes, sir. Your rooms have been set up as per instruction."

"Ah. Alright then, Fry." He toned the irritation down a bit, mollified by the household's efficiency. What a relief, to be somewhere were things got done the first time! A small miracle, certainly. "My schedule is highly erratic, so I doubt you can plan on me for meals at any given time. I'll send down to the kitchen for them- it would be wise to advise your cook to keep something easy on hand for when the main ovens are dormant for the night. Where is the boy?"

Fry nodded, as if used to such requests. "Yes, sir. Cook is familiar with such habits." He made his way up the stairs. "Young master is outside playing at the moment. He got far to restless waiting for your arrival. Shall I send someone to fetch him, or would you rather settle into your quarters first..?"

Euler thought that trhough, one hand coming up to brush fingertips across his lips. It was a nervous habit- it usually caused trouble when a paintbrush rested in the same hand. "Settle, I think. Have him come inside and meet me there...might as well get a look at him now."

Fry nodded again, cresting the stairs again to the second floor. "Your rooms are here sir." The butler paused infront of a double set of oak doors, opening them and stepping out of the way. "The studio is adjoining." Servants were already inside, placing his personal items down and fluttering out.

"Brilliant. I do appreciate it, Fry." The sudden smile was charming, roguish, and made him appear a good deal younger than he was. He stepped inside, glancing around curiously, and immediately began changing where the servants had placed everything.

[RP w/ Lethrossen and Belle, posted in main thread as well. And with Nychii XD]

Belle hummed to herself, she was having a good day. Not many monsters had attacked her, and she was rather greatful for that, mostly she just ran away when they attacked anyways. She was headed for a small village, she wasn't certain of the name, but only thought of the 'adventure' she could be having when she got there.

And besides, Leth probably knew she had run off by now, and would probably start searching every where! Which would not be good, not at all, and Belle knew she'd have to start back to Castle Loff'Ta again soon.

Caeser had been on break from lessons at home, and taken a walk. There was a small fork ahead, where the road split of heading in two directions. He knew the right headed off to one of the more major cities, and the left went to a smaller village that made really really good cider. It was one of those days that made you want to sleep all day- pretty warm, and practically cloudless.

Cae paused at the fork, peering down each way. He lifted an eyebrow slightly, suprised to see someone else traveling along the same road... a girl. He waited, since it wasn't safe for a GIRL to be walking this road alone.. was it? Maybe she was crazy. o_O;; Or lost...

Belle could be rather oblivious at times, and this was one of them, her gaze some what on the sky, arms swining slightly as she continued her way down. Indeed it might not be safe for /some/ girls, especially little ones, and Belle was little, as much as she liked to deny it. But she knew a thing or two to help her get by in sticky situations.

Finally noticing the boy she gave a start, stopped in mid stride, posture becoming some what defensive. Some people she had mad had not been all that nice..

"Hello?" She tried to give a small smile, but it clashed horribly with the posture she was in, almost as if he was about to attack her. Her tone was cheerful, none the less.

Caeser lifted his hands. "Hi?" He blinked, wondering if she was going to hit him or wave... XD... "Uhm... Hi." He glanced aside, mumbling to himself. He'd ALREADY said hi... He turned back to her, offering his hands out to show he wasn't about to attack her with anything. "You must travel alot, huh?" o_O;

She felt a bit foolish, realizing he was not going to harm her, and suddenly shifted from wary to cheerful, bounding foward. "Travel a lot? I wish! I think Leth would kill me if I traveled so much! This is my first big journey actually.." Giggles spilled from her vocals. "She's going to be really mad when I get back.. she looks after me.." She said all of it in a rush, a hand extending, so she could shake his.

"Oh I'm Belle." She laughed. "Who are you?" her head tilted to one side, man could her emotions be flung around.

His eyes widened considerably as she took his hand, giggles and all. He'd heard about 'girls' being like this, but to see it upfront, so close.. was startling. She talked so fast...

"...Uh.. Caeser." He shook his head, snapping out of the confusion of her girly chatter. "Caeser Silverberg, I live right down that road a bit.. you from around here too? What are you doing walking out here alone?"

She giggled more, withdrawing her hand and planting it on her hip. "Why shouldn't I be alone? Im not dumb enough to let mosters take me off.. as some other children are.." she grinned delightedly, Leth had told her stories.. all fake, for certain, but she liked them anyways.

"I could out smart a villain or beast any day, okay? Caeser is a nice name, though.. oh I don't think I'm from around here.." She bit her lip, chocolate gaze swiveling around, and she blushed. "Actually the only reason I am not back at my castle is because I can't seem to find the way.. I've asked directions several times.. but.. not many people know where it is." She laughed, as much as a perdiciment she was in.

"I'm sure I will find my way back sooner or later, don't you? Anyways I was headed for that village.. is there where you were going? You should come with me! I'm thirsty.. and slightly hungry.. and I probably need some supplies.." She cut off sheepishly, watching him. "Leth always tells me I talk a lot.."

He smirked a bit. If I were a monster, I wouldn't want to take her off either! She'd talk me to death... "So, you are lost, hmm?" He shook his head, another thing he'd heard about girls- they always got lost. "I can help you find it, if you want.." He shrugged. "I was heading to the village, yeah... they have good food." He grinned, imagining the cider. "I'll come with you." Nodding, he stepped over beside her, hands back in his pockets. "Who is 'Leth'?"

She seemed to tone down a little, as they began to walk. "I told you who Leth was.. She's my gaurdian. She takes care of me." Her arms swing at her side slightly, sharing her gazes between him and the path in front of her.

"Help me find it?" She made a face. "I can find it on my own.. I'm not stupid.." she repeated again, then grinned at him. "Thank you though. Besides I enjoy exploring.."

"I never said you were stupid. You said you were lost, being lost means you don't know where you are, or what you're looking for is." He glanced at her, mimicing the face she'd given. "...exploring's okay, I'd rather nap." He yawned, looking back up at the sun filtering through the trees... made him feel laaazy. "Have you ever been to this village before?"

"But since I am not stupid sooner or later I will be able to figure out where I am and have to go." She nodded slightly, looking around the shops and such as they entered the town. "Napping?" Her face blanched, giving away what she thought of that.

"Well to each his own, right? And no I don't think I ever have.. you live by it?" her head tilted to one side.

"Yeah, back where the road forks- I live a ways down the path." He lifted a hand to point at the inn, which had the cider he favored. "There should be some food in there, do you have any money?" He glanced at her, eyebrow lifted slightly. "I have some if you want to save it to get back home.."

So he thinks I am stupid and poor, eh? She shook her head lightly, hands digging into her pockets, it was easy enough to get more, when luck was with her, as well as trickiness. She pulled out a small handful of the money, counting it in her head. "A little, enough to get something to eat. And I can find some more on my own, later, thank you." She slipped in, gaze flicking over the few tables inside.

Caeser sighed, running a hand through his messy hair. "..girls," he mumbled, following Belle into the Inn. The place had it's usual crowd, and a few travelers huddled in the corners. Cae kept up with Belle, letting her take the lead in whatever they were doing.

"They uh.. have good cider." o__o

"My home? Hmm well." She thought a while about the slightly run down castle, lacking the help it really needed to stay neat looking and other such things. "Well for one thing I don't have cider all the time.." She giggled slightly, head tilting.

"I guess it is a little crazy.. but fun for games." She shifted more in her seat, watching him, hands folded in her lap. "And for finding stuff to invent! Plus inventing is always fun and ..uh well and.. occupies time." She nodded slowly.

Nychii got up from her table at the end of the Inn's cafe. She silver hair drifted behind her, her wolf's tail wagging as she made her way across the room carrying a small cup of tea, she stared at it with a confused look not paying much attention to where she was going. As she walked towards the counter, she tripped on an old man's cane laying in the middle of the floor, the cup flew from her hands and spilled everywhere.

Nychii quickly got up from the floor and check herself for injuries before she noticed that her cup of tea had landed on a small girl covering most of her hair and her shirt with the wet scent of tea leaves. "Oh...my...," she quickly rushed over and took the tea cup off the girl's head while apologizing the best she could.

Belle squealed as the substance and cup hit her, eyes going wide, head jerking around and hands up, as if to protect herself, her large eyes glazed with tears she tried to hold back, it HAD hurt.

She stared at the silver haired woman, backing herself into the table "W..what was the for?" She wimpered slightly, glancing hastily toward Caeser, then lowering her hands, biting her lip to keep from spilling her tears as she looked, still frightened, at the lady.

"I'm...I'm so sorry," Nychii's voice quivered as she apologized over and over as she tried her best cleaning the tea off the little girl. The old man with the cane had left during the commotion so there was nothing for her to blame her faults on. "Erm...is there anything you want?" Nychii asked, "I'll pay for your whole bill, erm...waiter, put these two on my bill." She looked about hastily unsure what else to do.

Belle's eyes lit up at the mention of being payed for, and sat helplessly as the other cleaned her off. She rubbed an arm "It's okay.. I'm sure you didn't THROW it at me.." her eyes widened. "You didn't, right?"

She grinned lightly. "And alright, I am kind of hungry.. and thirsty.." She proceded to order some food, more than a girl her size could eat, and a glass of water. She should take advantage of this! And she could just keep the extra food in her bag!

"NO! Of course it wasn't on purpose," Nychii answered in shock at the thought of it. "Well, since I'll be paying anyway and there's no more need for me to complain about my drink. I hope you won't mind if I joined your table."

She grabbed a nearby chair and sat down unstably as she watched the little girl pile on and on her long list of orders. The elder won't be happy with me...she thought quietly to herself, but I don't wish to have the humans hold any grudes against our people either.

Sighing, Nychii sat back and asked for a cup of water, glad that this small event won't trigger some sort of conflict, while she was here in this situation, she might as well learn a bit more about the humans. "My name is Nychii...I'm a traveler...who might you be?" Despite the fact that she was the best speaker in her clan, her words seemed clumsy and often misunderstood by humans, that did not stop her from trying.

Caeser watched the two of them quietly, just observing. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth at how much of an opportunist Belle seemed to be when an opening presented itself. He'd clearly offered to pay for todays meal, but she had refused... looks like it took being beaten over the head with a cup to make her change her mind? o_O;;

He nodded to Nychii, smiling fully. "My name is Caeser Silverberg."

It was just that she could buy whatever she wanted now ^ ^. "A traveler?" Belle hurridly swallowed a bite of food, stairing at her in amazement, just now taking in her looks. She had a tail! Her eyes went wide at that, she'd seen strange 'people' before, like those Duck people.. And even a few Dog-men.. but not a human with a tail.

"My name is Belle.." She took a gulp of water, her clothes still a little damn from the whole insident. When she was full she begand slipping the extra food- the stuff that would squish, melt or ruin, and place it into her bag, things like bread rolls.

"Where have you traveled?" She asked excitedly, head tilted to the side.

Nychii turned her attention to the young boy, who had sat silently on the side until now. She observed him from top to buttom before replying. "Caesar...erm...," she fumbled with her words, "pleasure to meet you..." and gave a weak smile as the waiters brought out the platefuls of food. She gawked slightly but caught herself as she stared at the large number of plates that were presented, imagining the amount of money she would have to spend on her error.

To stop herself from showing any signs of amazement, she answered Belle's question. "I've been to many places, I've traveled across the ocean and through the grasslands...but I've not traveled enough, I'll need to travel the world before I become anything significant." She reached for her glass of water and took a sip.

Belle took her eyes off the food, and instead placed her gaze on Nychii. "Over the ocean? Really? Boy would I like to travel! Leth promiesed me I could when I got older." She grins at the older woman, head still tilted a little, then she glanced to Caeser. "Boy, you're awfully quiet.. I don't understand why you don't talk!" Maybe it was because Belle talked enough for five people.

Caeser lifted his eyebrows. "My name is Caeser. And, you talk enough for me.. I haven't actually found a place to come in." He watched her through half-lidded eyes across the table, sipping his cider idly.

Nychii finished her glass of water and twirled the cup in one hand, "Travel is like a great mystery, I'm never really sure what I would encounter or how I would face it. It is like a search for truth." She smiled at a future traveler, "Maybe we'll meet on the road one day!" She asked the waiter for another glass of water for that was the only thing at the Inn that was really free...she would have to spend as little as possible or else she'd run of of money before the new moon. At the current rate, money's leaking out of a rather large hole in her pocket.

He must have missed how she was using boy, she blushed a little, looking angry and upset at the same time. "How many times do I need to tell you I'm not stupid? I know your name is Caeser...and.." She fell silent though at his next comment, surprise flashing in her eyes.

She knew she talked a lot, she really did. But Leth had never really called her on it, which might have ended up a bad thing. Her mouth clicked shut and she looked back to Nychii, listening to her answers. Her legs came up onto the chair with them, hugged to her chest, resting her chin on her knees. She muttered something incohierent, then fell silent again, looking rather sulky.

Cae frowned. "I haven't said you were stupid!! Stop thinking everytime I say something, that I'm calling you stupid... " He sounded exasperated. He'd obviously upset her already and it irriated him. He shook his head, lowering his voice. "I'm sorry."

Caeser stood up, taking some money from his pocket and placing it onto the table. It was more than his cider, but Nychii appeared a little nervous about the tab. "Good evening ladies."

Belle was getting along with the other girl better than with him, so he figured she could help her better then he could ever. Sighing heavily, he stepped away from the table and made his way to the door. "Girls are so confusing."

------

A figure was darting across the field, little coat flaring out behind him. His shoes were caked with mud, when they'd been shined only a few hours before. His hair was sticking up wildly, little pieces of leaves and bits of grass tucked here and there among its wayward strands. His face was smudged with dirt, and his fancy clothes were rumpled and untucked.

Caeser jumped over a log, heading around the final bend and seeing the estate peeking up over a hill. His eyes widened as he spotted the carriage leaving. "..ack! Late!!" He frowned, running faster across the open field of tall grass.

Fry stood in the open doorway, arms folded across his chest. He glanced up as the boy approached, skidding on the pebble pathway.

"Master von Hargrav is upstairs, young master." He shook his head, taking in his appearance. "Look at you Caeser, what HAVE you been into..."

Cae grinned, head tilted slightly as he shrugged. "Uh.. nothing?"

There was a loud noise from behind Fry as the cook, Madam Pom flowed forward. "CAEser SilverBERG! Young man didn't I TELL you not to get into mischief before you met with Master von Hargrav!! Just look at you..!" She grabbed him by the cuff, dragging him into the kitchen and taking a wash cloth to his face. "Oy! Look at this dirt!! You just had a BATH!"

Caeser grimaced as she scrubbed his face clean. "I know, but.. there are frogs in the pond..."

"No buts, you! Look at this, grass in your hair.. again." She sighed, straightening his clothes and brushing the leaves from his hair and placing it in some sort of order. "Get upstairs you, your new teacher is waiting."

Cae's eyes lit up. "I know! I'm so excited.." He glanced at Fry. "Is he nice?"

Fry snorted. "To a point."

Caeser didn't understand that, and looked back at Madam Pom. "PomPom, have you met him?"

She shook her head, nudging him towards the door. "Go on, I'm sure he'll like you as much as we do. Just remember your manners for goddsakes..." o_O;

Cae nodded, darting up the stairs to the second floor.

-------

The man in question stood by the far window of his studio, placing his easel, stool, and the small table he set his paints out on with reverent fingers. There was a softness to his face, the expression of a man with the woman he loved most in the world- he pulled a black felt cover over his easel to protect his watercolor canvases, and sighed. So much empty space...so loud, and barren. It was uncomfortable.

Cae made his way down the second floor hall, footsteps sounding so much louder than they actually were. He tugged at the tight collar of his shirt, sniffing loudly. He was so nervous, he slowed his pace as he approached the door to knock. When he tried to say something, it came out as a squeek. XD.. "Uhm.. Master von Hargrav?" He tapped lightly on the door, stepping back to wait.

The voice that answered was more suited to poetry than harsh irritation, and it showed. Euler turned tothe door, one hand on his hip, and frowned slightly as his response failed to have the terrifying sound he was aiming for. "Come in, boy. I haven't had to be given a tranquilizer yet, you will probably survive."

Cae blinked, wondering what that meant... He hesistated, placing his hands onto the doors before pushing them open and walking in. "...s-sorry for being later sir..." He stepped into the front of the room, hands behind his back as he'd been taught was polite when in the presance of ones educated elders.. or something. o_O..

Cae blinked, looking down. He throught he'd been cleaned up decently enough.. maybe people dressed fancier where Master von Hargrav was from? He looked up, eyebrows lifted. ".. so do you."

He fought it. He really did try to repress the smile that came to his lips- but damn, if the child didn't have potential. He succeeded, about half-way, and shook his head. "You aren't supposed to point out flaws in others, Caesar. It makes you appear defensive."

"You started it. Does that mean you, are defensive sir?" Caeser tilted his head, watching Eu with keen eyes.

Fascinating. "It could," he allowed, walking forward and around the boy. "It could also mean that I expect you to be more presentable than to have muddy shoes and a rumpled coat on the day you first meet your guardian- which I do. On the other hand, it could mean I am a detail-oriented p***k who will nag every detail of your personal appearance- which I am not. Do try to be more careful for the next guest who arrives, hmmm?"

Cae nodded, keeping his frown under control. "Yes." He jammed his hands into his pocket, slouching a bit as he usually did. "Where are you from?"

"South, a bit. City streets have more appeal for me that the countryside...but so far your gardens look enticing. I might even survive." He turned away, walking to his canvas, covering the flash of his smile. Bad Euler, too early to like the boy. "You may call me Euler, or even Eu. There IS a difference between it and just saying 'hey, you!' so don't think I won't know which you're using."

"Alright, you can call me Caeser." Cae kept his eyes on him, watching him move across the room to some covered object. "What's that...?"

That DID bring a smile, one Eu couldn't avoid. Hard to deny something you loved. He tugged the cover back off the easel with a fdlourish, bowing slightly. "An easel, Caesar. I am an artist of water; I would go insane without my paint and brushes to keep me company."

"An.. artists of water?" He walked over, peering at the easel. "What's that mean..? You paint with just water? That doesn't make sense..." Caeser shook his head.

"Of course it does," Eu sad softly, drawing a tray of thin watercolors. Usually, he'd use the ones in the tubes, but not for something quick. A glass of water rested nearby, where he'd placed it during his wanderings; as was a very regular occurance, he pulled a brush free and used the water to wake a brilliant crimson to liquid life. "You simply haven't seen all of the wonders in the world yet," he whispered, and slashed the brush across the canvas in front of him with one quick, almost violent motion.

"So, the water makes the paint come to life...? It's like dry ink, that uses water to make it usable.. yes?" Caeser stepped closer, peering at the bright color on the white canvas. "How do you keep the water from being dirty when you change colors...?"

"Change the water frequently, change brushes, or use a cloth to remove the excess water. Really, though, in a watercolor painting...one doesn't try so hard to keep the colors seperate." Eu tucked the brush behind one ear after rinsing it, letting it get half-lost in his hair. "There are more pliable forms, as well, but the bricks like these are the most common."

"Pli-able..?" Caeser struggled with the word a bit, not understanding it's meaning. "What does that mean?"

PostPosted: Wed Feb 09, 2005 2:56 pm

That quick smile flashed again, and he dug around until he found a tube of dark blue. "Pliable means....oh, more flexible, easier to mold. Watercolors in tubes are like oil paints, only you dilute them for use. A little goes a long way."

Cae nodded, stepping back to watch quietly. "... Thank you for coming to be my guardian. No one else would come..." He glanced up, peering through his red hair. "Why.. did you agree to come?"

The warmth in those eyes shut down, and he gently set the paint aside. He rinsed the brush more carefully before he answered, drying it gently on the hem of his shirt. "I was told there was a child who needed a guardian, Caesar. To be honest, the salary your family is paying is a very good reason- but I have....issues with people who refuse to teach. It speaks ill of them, and makes me want to show them what they missed out on." A raised eyebrow turned to the boy, and he nodded. "I will, of course, be needing your cooperation."

Cae nodded. "Of course... PomPom says you were appointed by the goverment. Have you ever been a guardian before?" There was a cough at the door. Fry stood there, eyebrows lifted. "Young Master Caeser, your dinner is ready." He glanced at Eu. "Will you be joining the young master, or taking your dinner later?"

"I have been a teacher for quite some time- a private tutor, usually," Eu stated absently, and shook his head at Fry. "Run along, Caesar. You may come find me after dinner, if you are still curious. I don't believe I can eat after that...lovely carriage ride," he said with a wince, rubbing gently at his nose.

-----

Caeser had grown accustomed to eating alone. Technically Fry was there, and occasionally Madam Pom would flow in with a comment or a story while she cleaned the dishes she'd placed in the spots where his father and brother would sit, as was her tradition. Sometimes, on holidays, she would actually set the food in thier places too.

Fry was silent, like always. Cae poked at his pea soup, a dish he usually favored, but tonight it just wasn't the same. He swirled his spoon around, watching the bits of peas lump around. A few moments later he sighed, pushing the bowl back.

Fry lifted an eyebrow from across the room. "What the matter, are you not hungry?"

Cae glanced up, shrugging. "I dunno... I'm thinking about tomorrow. What kind of things am I going to learn? What if it's hard."

The butler smiled at him, hands clasped infront of him. "Well, you're a smart boy- you'll learn."

"Yes, but what if I can't?" Caeser leaned forward, eyes squinting as he peered at Fry. "What happens if I mess up?" He scrunched up his nose, sitting back. "I don't want to dissapoint father. I'm not as good with my studies as Albert..."

Fry shook his head. "You just need to figure out how to learn, and remember things. Everyone has different methods of learning things."

"... Yeah." Caeser guessed he was right. He sat back, frowning slightly. "Well, good night Fry." He slid out of his chair, shuffling upstairs to his bed room. Fry went to gather his dishes.

Sometime later, Madam Pom was upstairs to tuck him in like she usually did. She left a candle burning, and the door cracked... like he wanted.

"Good night Caeser. Dream good, you."

Cae yawned. "Good night PomPom."

Tonight, it was too late to see Master Eu again. Madam Pom had advised to let him get his rest too from his journey. Tomorrow... they would start classes.

[RP w/ Lethrossen and Belle, posted in main thread as well.]

Belle was seated outside the inn, right off to the side in a small patch of grass. Her feet were curled under her, twisted so she was sitting in 'indian style', or more simply, pretzel style. She shifted and leaned foward, the bells attached to her shirt front made a slight jingle, and her small hand wrapped itself around some shells. She brought them closer and let them tumble out, head tilting as she began to hum and look each one over.

"This one!" She giggled, holding up a lady's slipper she particularly liked. She shifted and reached over to her side, glancing to make sure everything she still needed was right there. She picked up a pin and jammed it through the shell, it took her a few times but she finally got it all the way through. She'd learned to be a little more careful with the sharp object, but not much.

She then strung the shell onto some thin cord, it rested beside others. She was making a necklace, and for once not running around hyper, or trying to take things apart in hopes of learning how they worked.

"Whatcha makin'." Cae stood a few feet from Belle, hands clasped on a basket he was holding behind his back. He'd been sent to town by his teacher to gather more supplies, since he'd ran out of paint a couple days ago. Cae tilted his head, glancing at the shells before turning his attentions back to the girls face.

He'd spoken to her a few times before, but she was usually running around like a maniac. It was different to see her sitting alone being so... calm and quiet. XD
