Rivener took the plate of cut foods, grinning at all the small little pieces she'd thoughtfully cut for him. How meticulous. He even had vegetables now on his plate, too. Gingerly he placed the plate on his "lap" and picked up the plastic fork, spearing himself a few cubes of meat and chewing as he watched the two talk for now.

Aphismet thought at first that Vivi had met Eiry on one of his good, non-mischievous days. The woman certainly seemed impressed by him, noting his language first and then calling him charming... But then yes, she did mention the mischief and even admitted that she'd been given a terrible fright. Aphi groaned lightly and covered his face, hunching up his shoulders bashfully. "Ah, you're kinder than most, Vivi. Eiry's tendency to try and scare people is what made me call him abrasive. I'm glad you didn't take offense, though." The chef could only imagine Eiry becoming excited when his prank didn't earn him a screaming fit... Or maybe he would find it boring? If they were lucky, he found it boring!

"So you like Eiry then? That's good. Eiry doesn't have many people who like him. But if he comes to the picnic, we'll have to double-check all the food before we eat it, in case there's odd stuff in our sandwiches." Riv sighed and shook his head. "So you wouldn't mind your Raevan being around Eiry then? Because to be honest, Eiry would quite possibly be around a few times when I babysit your Frei."

"Not many people who like him...? Such a sadness that so many would find such mischief rather opprobrious! I see how such a thing might occur. He materialized in a box of costumes I had in my home! If it had been my flatmate, I think he perhaps would have strangled the poor dear cabbage." Vivi tapped her lips with one finger as she thought on the scenario. Shepard would have to be introduced to Eiry while in a good mood... a very good mood. Perhaps alcohol might be involved... "Well, it is no matter. I am delighted that you are still interested in Frei-sitting, Rivener! I have been quite looking forward to my Frei already having a strong older figure such as yourself to rely upon. And have no such concern regarding Mssr. Eiry. I hope my Frei can perhaps learn a thing or two from such a master trickster~."

Would she truly invite such a thing into her home? Vivi laughed, her eyes bright, quite pleased with the prospect.

Rivener grinned, stifling a chuckle as Vivi described Eiry as a "cabbage". What a funny nickname. The Scorpion would be adopting that later on, surely. "Well good, I'm glad you're not pissed at Eiry then. Though flatmate-... do you mean you have a roomate? What's that person like?" If that'd be someone involved in the Raevan's life, Riv wanted to know. Also, for some reason the Sigel had just assumed Vivette lived alone! What an oversight!

Aphismet raised an eyebrow. Vivette wanted her Raevan to learn a few things from Eiry? AND she thought Riv was "a strong older figure to rely upon"? ...The chef knew some of it was true, of course: Riv was mathematically older than most Raevans they'd met, but him being reliable was debatable, in Aphi's opinion. Not that he'd be bringing it up, of course.

Oh, dear, it seemed that young Mssr. Eiry was quite known for his nonsense, and his reputation was not to his credit, if Aphismet's eyebrow raise was any sort of indication. Or perhaps it had been something else she had said? What a difficult life it must be for Aphismet, she thought to herself with amusement -- his own Raevan obviously getting into mischief of some seriousness, and then to come home to live in a household where there was ceaseless ill-rested wickedness of the very highest caliber.

She turned her attention to Rivener, then, and laughed pleasantly. "Mssr. Eiry and I had very great fun. He appeared in a box of costumes of mine quite suddenly, and we tried them on and held an impromptu circus show. Rather a lovely afternoon! But, my flatmate, he is a lovely friend of mine. He does not so much love to smile, if he can help it, but rather a nice soul, and quite caring. He is very much hoping that our Raevan should not be a girl. It seems that he believes female Raevans are somewhat terrifying in their aspect." Vivi's lopsided smile grew wider as she spoke; Shepard would kill her with scowls if he could hear her speak. In fact, he was probably scowling angrily now and had no idea why. Probably frightening passers-by.

Riv listened attentively to everything Vivi said, gauging her reaction to Eiry and then measuring the person Vivi lived with, wondering if they'd get along. The flatmate didn't like female Raevans, and Riv couldn't really blame him; the only really sweet and un-threatening-looking one he could even think of at the moment was Melisande. Most females were rather formidable, or scary, or just not very nice. Sometimes all at once. But it seemed like if Rivener could keep himself on good behavior and not be a d**k around the guy, the flatmate should have no problems with him. "Most Raevan girls can be a, uh... handful. Yeah. But some are cool." Like Delia, who was surprisingly nice for someone who'd tried to kill him when under the effect of the Infection.

Aphismet, meanwhile, was smiling as he chewed on a mouthful of chicken. That Vivette had taken Eiry's invasive prank and turned it into a fun afternoon activity spoke well of her ease at adapting... She'd be perfectly fine as a Guardian, then. It was kind of sad that Aphi considered Eiry somewhat of a "trial by fire" for Guardians, but there it was. And Vivette passed with flying colors! "Do YOU have any preference as to the Raevan's gender, I wonder?" Aphi spoke up, finally taking part in the conversation again.

"Ah, the ladies always love to give a little trouble, do we not?" Vivi made a silly show of tossing her long hair and winking grandly, her laugh taking on a coquettish lilt. At Aphismet's question, though, she dropped the pantomime and straightened her posture, tilting her head. She did not think for long. "No, you know, I want only that he or she should be healthy, I think! It is a marvel and a miracle, do you not think, that such lovely people should exist -- it is not for me to say what form they should have." Her eyes shone with exhilaration. "Ah! I am filled with excitement for meeting him or her -- to see how he or she has decided to enter this world. Male or female, mischievous or tame, emotional or stoic -- I wonder!"

Rivener liked Vivi more and more as he got to know her. Her every reaction drew a smile from him, the vivacious woman passing every subconscious test Riv didn't realize he was thinking up. She was easygoing and nice, kind and full of life... Surely she'd be able to handle whatever the new Raevan could throw at her and then some. She'd be a wonderful guardian, ready to prod and play with her charge, stimulating its growth socially and intellectually... Yep, Riv suddenly realized he completely approved of Vivette as a guardian. The Scorpion's grin broadened.

"I can't wait to meet him or her either! I think it won't matter wether it's a boy or girl...

"Really?!" asked Aphismet, sounding half-teasing and half-seriously-surprised. He raised his hands in defence, chuckling, when his Sigel shot him a deadly glare.

"What I meant was, I'm sure you'll raise it perfectly well no matter what gender it is. And I'll be more than glad to babysit, no matter the gender either. Despite what Aphismet might think." True, Riv hadn't had the best experiences with girls, but he didn't hate the whole gender anymore.

For all the talks of raising and parenting, for all the business she'd heard so far of Raevans being children hiding in mature bodies, Vivi had to admit that when she was with Rivener and Aphismet, she felt a warm bond between them almost akin to that of a younger and elder brother -- teasing, prodding, testing and toeing boundaries. There was something delightfully -- well, she couldn't quite think of the word: unorganized, perhaps? about their relationship from where she saw it, something wonderful and real. Two people doing their best, without pretense or strict hierarchy. A real family.

And what was this about hating girls? Vivi's mind dashed immediately to plotlines best left as stuffing for dime novels -- crashing waves and sunsets and heaving chests and love no more. With Rivener, there was an aura of mischief, danger, and fun that allowed such thoughts plausibility. And his stunning good looks would make him an excellent cover boy for dangerous love affairs... Ah, well, perhaps she would inquire another time, when she could really engage in conversation with the Sigel.

"Merci, merci!" Vivi inclined her head slightly at the comment. "I can only hope that I shall do your words some justice! But certainly I am easy knowing that I will have your expertise behind me." And smiling, she stood. "But now, I must take my leave and let you rest, cheri. When things are all better, we must talk more! Perhaps a family picnic, with Mssr. Eiry in tow as well?"

She extended her arms to Aphismet for a first hug; next, she would go to Rivener to do (more gingerly!) the same. It was never her policy to linger too long at hospitals, and now, with the conversation lovely and easy and both men well-fed, it seemed an appropriate time to take her leave. And she hoped that next time -- hopefully a happier time! -- they could meet again somewhere much more comfortable and cheerful than this.
