For a moment Gaspard wondered if Lungaia could see right through him. Through the fur and flesh and bone to his naked being within. Then, she told him to wait there, and left without another word.
And so he waited. And waited. Until he was sure that she wasn't coming back. The shadows seemed to loom ever closer to him, threatening to extinguish the brightness of his fur. He shifted from paw to paw, not daring to budge from that spot, in case the shadows grabbed ahold of him.
Then, she was back. Relief shot through him and then he began to salivate. She brought meat! Fresh, untainted, delicious meat! The kill looked messy and torn, but hell, it was still meat! He began to shake as the deer was placed in front of him.
Laera never allowed him to eat first. His eyes lingered on Lungaia as he swelled with gratitude, and he then tore enthusiastically into the deer. He ate his fill quickly. Maybe too much too fast for his famished body, but he didn't care. It was still warm, and so satisfying.
After what seemed like a very short time, Gaspard stepped away from it, leaving it to Lungaia, and lay down to clean his paws and face.

"You hold onto that," she said, yawning. She swept her tattered ears to her skull, and amusement glittered in her emerald eyes. "I'm not hungry."
She yawned, and stretched. The white of her maw was stained pink, around the lips, and her expression was strangely satiated for a wolf who had not eaten. "Get some sleep," she said, simply. "And tomorrow, when I leave this place, you may follow. If you wish."

"Thank you, thank you so much!" Gaspard said, a puppy-like look of happiness and appreciation crossing his face before he resumed his grooming. Mmm, breakfast in the morning, too! Could this day get any better? And to think he had been afraid of Lungaia... A wolf with a dark heart would never be this kind, right?
"Sleep, sleep is..." He trailed off with a yawn once he was sufficiently cleaned. The lime green wolf curled up right there, drowsy after his meal. He would follow... Why would he go wandering alone again? Maybe he'd find Laera on the way... wherever they were going. It didn't matter right then. Sleep did, and so he closed his eyes and fell into a sweet dream before his chin even touched his paws.
