Happily beaming, she balled her hands into fists like she had just won some decisive sports match. In a way, it was—although the field was vastly different to what the redheaded athletic was accustomed to. Sydney quickly dropped her board and placed a foot on its black grainy surface. “Rules?” she curiously echoed, innocently staring up at the blond tomboy. ‘What kind of rules did motorcycle riding have?’ she confusedly wondered. Regardless, she obediently nodded her head.

With each rule, she laughed and nodded again. Each rule seemed easier and easier. Be a nerd about riding? Sydney hardly knew how a motorcycle worked and she had only touched one once, even! Hardly had no intention of doing anything ridiculous to the girl who was gracious enough to give her a hard, so she didn’t even dare to think the thought—not like she’d try it in anyways. Not interested.

“I’ve just been dying to ride a motorcycle, of course I’ll have fun,” Sydney chuckled as she easily stood on her skateboard. “We’re cutting through the park, right?” she asked while beginning to slowly teeter towards said-place. She was beginning to become giddy just thinking about riding with Ellie. “What kind of motorcycle is it? Is it new and fast? Does it have a cool paint job? Tell me, tell me!”

Glancing to her side where Sydney was keeping up with the blonde, Ellie pointed out something. "Right now, yer breakin' rule 1. All of that will be answered when ya see it."

It wasn't long before the park was in view. Growing up near the park had its advantages. Ellie pretty much knew every nook and cranny, since she pretty much cut through it every day. She followed the sidewalk for a bit, then eventually broke off towards the left. "Come on, ain't too far now!" With that, the blonde began to speed up. The blonde might not have been on any sports team, but she was still in pretty good physical condition.

A dumbfounded Sydney stared back at Ellie. What. Really? But. But. She didn’t sound like a nerd at all! Did she? She didn’t think so. Or maybe she was too overexcited to think properly. Or Ellie and Sydney were not on the same wavelengths. Or both. Whatever the reason, the redhead promptly ceased her wave of questions. “Dawww, okay then,” she conceded as she crossed her arms, somehow balancing enough to continue smoothly skateboard alongside Ellie.

Well, until she began to cut across the grass. “Aw man,” grumbled the freckled-faced teen, reluctantly hopping off and picking up her board. Rolling along the grass on a skateboard was not exactly the easiest task to accomplish. “Yeah, coming!” reassured Sydney as she sprinted after the older girl. At least she had the athletics to keep up with Ellie.

It wasn't long before the grass turned into concrete again, and the two continued to head towards Ellie's house. When they approached a house that had all loose stones in place of where a lawn should have been, the blonde swung in towards the driveway. Several of the neighbors gave them a hard time about not having a real lawn, but considering how frequently her parents were away, and how it wasn't Ellie's lawn, the stones and gravel worked much better for their lifestyle. From the outside, the house didn't look amazing. It was a basic two story house of middle class. The exterior was in need of a fresh coat of paint and perhaps a bit of repair, but it wasn't anything that could be considered "drastic."

Ellie jogged up to the garage, then leaned down. Neither of her parents parked their cars in the garage itself (it was quite a mess in there anyways), so it was the teen's responsibility to keep it safe. Her hand found the padlock upon the garage door, and her other hand went digging around in her backpack. Her hand eventually found the necessary keys and pulled them up.

Rather than make small talk, she just took to unlocking the garage, turning the key and pulling the lock off as she always had done. Standing up again, she wandered to the middle of the garage door and grabbed onto a handle. Manually, she began to open the garage door. It wasn't one of those new fangled folding garage doors, but instead the standard flat ones that opened out. When the garage door was open, she wiped her brow.

"There!" The contents of the garage was 1 partial car, 1 motorcycle with a yellow paint job (and a small section of rainbow), and the rest was junk hiding both car and motorcycle.

Wandering into the garage itself like she owned the place (oh wait, she did own the place), she reached out to a wall with a few helmets hanging on it. She plucked a red one with black speed stripes along the side.

"Go ahead and put that on."

Sydney would be lying if she didn’t pay any attention to the dirt lawn. Most houses had a grass lawn—sure, perhaps that lawn was severely unkempt and crawling with weeds, but it was still a grass lawn. Well, not like the redhead spent too much time guffawing at the gravel and stones that littered Ellie’s front house. It wasn’t that particularly interesting anyways. Her gaze briefly and curiously looked over her classmate’s house before flickering back over to Ellie, who by now was working on opening the garage door.

She silently rolled up behind Ellie, the wheels of her board humming as it scraped against the pavement driveway. As Sydney puttered to a stop she continued standing on her board as she heard the clanging of a lock being pulled off. She leaned forward and to the side, attempting to sneak a peek at the bike from behind Ellie. Miraculously, the tall girl managed to firmly glue herself to her board.

Finally hopping off and scooping up her skateboard, the younger girl followed Ellie into the garage. She eyed the partial car with a wide, intrigued gaze. A finger on her lips she leaned over, her other arm dangling. Uncaring of the fact that Sydney had the appearance of a large child she continued to observe the pieces and gears of the unfinished vehicle. “Woooow! What cha doin’ with this thing?” Sydney asked, eyes filled with wonder as she carefully placed her board in the back corner of the garage before fast walking over to pick the helmet from Ellie’s hands.

Silently her mouth formed an amazed ‘O’ as she noted how cool and sleek the helmet’s design was. She then promptly put on the helmet before turning towards the motorcycle. “Oh! Do you like rainbows? They’re really pretty, huh? Since they have lots of colors!” The comment was completely innocent, but perhaps Ellie did not think so.

While the redhead was putting the red helmet on, Ellie wheeled her vehicle of choice out of the garage, kicking down the kickstand when it was out of the depths of the garage. She then wandered back in to get her own helmet, which was the same yellow color as her motorcycle. Tucking it under her arm, she then wandered to the soon-to-be passenger. It was fortunate for Sydney that she had put the helmet on when she had, for it muffled the sound of her own voice to the blonde.

Sydney would get to live to see another day.

Ellie didn't comment on the rainbow comment strictly because she couldn't hear it. With a shrug, she put her helmet on, tossed her recent purchase on the washing machine, pulled out her keys, then returned to the driveway. She made certain the other girl wasn't in the way, then manually closed the garage again. It was a bit pointless to say much at this point, since the helmets muffled the sound too much. Instead, she sat down on the Spectrum, kicked up the kickstand, revved up the engine, then turned to Sydney, silently inviting her to take a seat.

It was nice that Lady Luck decided to look out for Sydney this time around. Although she would have likely been able to handle whatever fury Ellie would have flung at her, physical or verbal or whatever shape it took, it sure was less of a hassle to receive an apathetic shrug instead. Sydney received offhanded shrugs on a daily basis. What was the easiest reply to a shrug? Ignoring it!

Once the blond sat down and the motorcycle grumbled to life, the redhead happily hopped behind Ellie and loosely wrapped her arms around the girl’s waist. “Sweet!” she managed to gleefully say over the loud hum of the bike’s engine. She leaned over to the side just a bit, eager to see the sights and sounds she would hurriedly pass by.

At least Sydney wasn't clingy. It would have probably driven Ellie bonkers to have a girl hugging onto her tightly. Especially a girl who seemed to be pretty similar to herself. Not identical, but at least had similar perspectives on femininity.

Releasing the brake, the yellow-helmeted tomboy set to giving the ultimate joy ride. Well, what Ellie considered a joy ride. Sure, she eased the vehicle out of the driveway slowly enough. The vehicle leaned in towards one side as she moved onto the street.

That was the end of the slow ride. With rubber on the asphalt, she revved the engine once more for show, then sped off, girl clinging to her waist. One thing about Ellie's preference in riding was she liked to go fast. She liked the feel of the wind against her body, even if she usually wore jackets to reduce the windchill factor. The wind could easily cut through a person if they weren't prepared. When they got to curves, she sped around them, leaning the vehicle down a bit heavily. It almost felt dangerous riding with the blonde.

And yet, when they rolled up to a stoplight, the only sound they could hear above the engine was the sound of her laughter behind the helmet. Every ride was amazing. A roller coaster she never wanted to get off of.

To be honest, Sydney could be incredibly affectionate when she wanted to be. She got lonely easily, so her quick remedy for easing the pangs in her stomach was to hug and cling to others. Most likely the redhead would have done the same to Ellie, but the tiny voice in the back of her head advised her to do so otherwise—besides, she wasn’t feeling particularly lonely at the moment. Ellie’s company, despite the fact that the blonde was more tomboyish than herself, was enough to content her. Sydney would live to see another day.

She wasn’t really thinking when she saw the bike ease into the street, almost as if Sydney knew that the good part would be starting soon enough—and it did. The motorcycle growled with anticipation, causing the redhead to tighten her hold ever so slightly. Once the pair finally took off, Sydney laughed as she watched houses and pedestrians turn into colorful blurs. “Ha ha ha ha! Awesome!” she shouted, hearing the wind quickly carry her excited voice away into the sky.

When it got to the first turn, Sydney half-expected Ellie to slow down, yet also half-expected her to keep on going. To her delight, the older teenager refused to budge and instead dangerously leaned the vehicle to the side. Drunk with thrill, her brown eyes widened and she laughed louder, pushing her vocal chords to the limit.

Upon reaching the stoplight, she breathed a content sigh, giggling like someone who was high, which wasn’t too far from the truth. “So awesommme,” she admired.

If she had heard the compliment over her own laughing and the engine, she might have been tempted to say "Ya ain't seen nothin' yet!" Alas, the compliment was drowned out by all the other sounds, so the driver continued to laugh like a maniac.

Before the light had even changed to the proper color for zipping forward, Ellie had already lifted her leg up from where she had set it down to steady the vehicle while waiting. Apparently she was familiar with the pattern of this stoplight, for it wasn't even half a second when the light all of a sudden turned green. There were a couple cars surrounding them, since Ellie had squeezed her vehicle between them, like how many motorcyclists would do. She didn't want to get stuck behind an old granny who couldn't drive the proper speed limit. The pair sped past the two vehicles next to them before claiming one of the lanes as their own. Knowing the roads well enough, the yellow-helmeted tomboy began to weave her way through the city so they could go past the least number of traffic lights as possible. Familiar locations were put into a new perspective as the Spectrum sped past. The high school, the shopping centers, even the public library (that Ellie almost never visited) were brought into a new light as they rushed past, turning each sight into a blur.

Alas, as with all good things, the ride eventually seemed to come to a close. The neighborhood they had started at was now surrounding them. The vehicle slowed as it turned up into a driveway. The very driveway they started at. They rolled to a stop, and eventually the motor was cut.

Sydney was far too excited to pay any particular attention to whatever Ellie was doing or to how quickly the traffic switched in this specific intersection. It all didn’t matter, because she was riding on a motorcycle! She looked both ways, curiously blinking at the attentive drivers in the cars that cruised beside them for a few seconds before they disappeared. Days of despondently looking over at her Driver’s Handbook made her recall that sharing the lane with motorcyclists was uber dangerous.

Not like Ellie seemed to care; it was only for a few seconds. Speed was the key here (Sydney approved 100%).

It didn’t take long for Sydney to spot familiar sights and sounds. The bright signs and displays of shops she often walked past. The yells and yelps of various irate shopkeepers. They were all there. She laughed, staring at the flickering images of the large mall and the red bricks of Meadowview. The town was the same, but at the same time different when behind the wheels of a motorcycle.

If there was one thing Sydney disliked about the ride, it was the fact that it ended far too quickly. She found herself back in the familiar calm of Ellie’s neighborhood and the bike easing to a halt. She frowned, reluctantly reaching up to pull of her helmet. “Over already?” Sydney mumbled sadly, swinging off of the seat. Grimacing, she stared at the helmet in her hands for a few seconds before shrugging. “Oh well! I can get another ride some other day, right? Or maybe get a motorcycle license.” She curiously thought about it.

Off went Ellie's helmet and soon enough she was shaking her head almost wildly so that her hair would stop sticking to her head. Tucking the yellow helmet under her arm, she then reached out for the red helmet. It was still Ellie's helmet, even if she didn't wear it. Definitely not a souvenir.

"Well... if ya get a motorcycle license, that also means ya gotta buy a bike." It didn't do anybody any good to have a license before having the vehicle. Again, that was this particular teenager's perspective on the whole ordeal.

Using her foot to set the kickstand against the ground, the blonde then wandered back to the garage, setting both helmets down in a line. Like before, she manually opened it, then picked up her helmets again and walked in to set them where they belonged. When she had finished that, she spun on the ball of her foot and turned to face the redhead. "It's a common reaction t'the first ride on a motorcycle, t'be honest... think sh*t through before ya go through with it."

She frowned. “Oh yeah, that’s right,” Sydney agreed. She closed her eyes and flopped her head to the side while her cheeks puffed out. There was no way she could raise the money to by her own motorcycle. Holiday money only garnered so much! Perhaps she should consider finding herself a part-time job.

Sydney covered her mouth as she thought about it, silently following after Ellie. Her brows furrowed, cringing at the thought of balancing her nightly patrols, school, and everything else she did on top of having a job. She would surely blow up from the stress and time crunch. A part-time job was out of the picture.

“Yeah, I suppose a motorcycle might not be for me, can’t afford it,” she reluctantly admitted, handing her the helmet. She walked over to pick up her own helmet and skateboard. “I’ve been skateboarding too long to suddenly switch anyways.” Sydney grinned and shrugged. She hopped onto her board and slowly rolled away, waving at Ellie. “Thanks for taking me on a ride! It was really fun!”

Ellie shrugged her shoulders after all was said and done. "Eh... whatever..." She could have said "You're welcome," but then it would make it sound like the blonde actually enjoyed herself. The motorcycle ride, always, but admitting to enjoying the company felt really, really gay.

With a slight wave of her hand, the teen called out "See ya whenever!" Most likely, she'd see Sydney at school. Yet, there was always that slight chance that skirt-feather-butt Iris would encounter pants-wearing-Sinon.

Screw her having pants with her fuku. Apparently Ellie Spectre did not feel like giving up on that slight grudge so easily.
