"Pshaw, takes more than that to kill me," the dog bragged, puffing out his chest some as he did so. Hah. He was that awesome after all. He really was. So there. Maybe he strut-limped instead of just limping as he lead the way back to dinner, only to pause and look quizzically at the little cub as he spoke.
"Well, I'm living too aren't I? If the gods made me to eat them, how can it possibly be wrong?" Or at least, that's what his mother had said. Sort of. More like when he didn't want to eat hare because it tasted funny to him. But it was close enough to the same thing, right? "And I'm Aandag little guy. Nice to meet you."

"I .. guess ..." Callick looked at the possible meal for the two of them. "It's just ... I-I guess it's ... okay, if the gods say so ... wait, gods?" He mused the entities that created this world. One could suppose its possible for some lions to be so powerful they could create land and water. Callick had just never seen magic ... or anything close to it.
Callick laughed slightly. "Aandag," Callick repeated. Well, he might be good, but he certainly wasn't modest. "I-I just meant ... that was impressive." Callick paused for a moment, just then realizing he had never introduced himself. "A-and my name's Callick ... by the way ... not that you asked or anything ..." His words faded, softer and softer, as he got his paw further into his mouth. "S-sorry." He muttered, following Aandag.

Aandag just shrugged when the cub seemed confused about the 'gods'. He wasn't sure how to explain that, it was just something mother talked about sometimes...or muttered under her breath. Fifteen pups...she seemed to be irate with his father for that. But oh well. The world was wide, why worry about the past when he had so much opprotunity at his pawtips?
"Well then, nice to meet you Callick," he replied brightly, his tail giving a quick wag. "And if you don't want to eat, you don't have to...but I'm hungry. So I'm going to." the dog explained, dipping his head to tug lightly at a bit of the hide. Unless the cub was young enough to need help getting at the food, he was fine with leaving Callick to his own devices. He liked the little cub, no reason not to. But he wasn't his mother or father or brother or anything... It wasn't his job.

The gray lion watched as the dog, Aandag ate. I was nice, and he seemed to like Callick, but he obviously wasn't used to catering to lion cubs, and it seemed as though Callick grew more and more sleepy every second. Callick walked up slowly, grabbing a bit of flesh of the prey beast, tugging, and eventually ripping the meat off. Callick ate vigorously for a moment, before yawning. Interrupting his meal.
He continued eating until he couldn't any longer. Who knows how long it'll be before he ate again? His tired eyes watered. "Umm .. Excuse me, Aandag ... I'm tired ... I-I think it's time I went to sleep." Callick slowly made his way out of the plains, finding a tall rock to lie down next to. He flopped on the ground, placing his head on his crossed paws. He sighed. He won't be here in the morning ... he won't.
"Goodnight, Aanda ... ag." He whispered, drifting closer to sleep.

Aandag ate hungrily, pausing only briefly to check that the cub was eating without too much difficulty. He was old enough to eat meat, right? Of course he was. He'd have died with no mother around otherwise. Silly of him to wonder. But the cub seemed more tired than hungry. It was sort of cute, the dog decided, watching the little grey lion yawn and then wander off. He himself wasn't finished yet, and so he only wagged his tail a bit to show that he'd heard before continuing to gorge himself. He was hungry after all. And it had been hard to get this...he'd the bruises to prove it too.
When he couldn't possibly eat anymore, he looked the remains of the kill over mournfully. He would want it later, of that he was moderately certain. But for now...his stomach protested the idea of another mouthful. In fact, his body wanted to lay down until it was somewhat more digested. Stretching the soreness out of his back, being stepped on was no fun at all, the dog wandered in the direction the cub had taken. It wasn't hard to catch his scent, finding the little guy curled up at a rock. Cute.
Aandag yawned again, being overful making him lazy. Ungracefully, he flopped on his side, slowly curling up himself as he dozed off beside Callick. Cute little cub. Kind of weird. But he was a lion after all. Maybe lions were just like that. Still, he was kind of small. And company was nice. Maybe he'd stick around a while...just a little.
