In the face of so many strangers Nate was a bit awed, he’d never been around this many people before in his life. Well maybe at the mall and the grocery store but they didn’t count because he didn’t talk to anyone there. The young reaper, mindful of where Skylar was toddled off towards where instruments were playing all by themselves! He could find the mysterious Howl later and give him his present when there weren’t so many people talking and crowing around each other. Besides, Nate wanted to see what happened if he touch one of the enchanted instruments, would it continue to play? As he focused on the source of the music in the room Nate tried to ignore the weird feeling in the pit of his stomach that had shown up all of a sudden.

~
Inside the house Iggy saw several familiar faces and even more that he didn’t recognize. Still the blond was content enough to mingle even as his eyes roam the room. Not only was there a lot of people milling about but there seemed to be a lot going on in general here. Given that his own birthday had been a small and quiet affair he was a little jealous. Still, Iggy knew today wasn’t about himself so his mood wasn’t dragged down too much. For the moment he let his gaze shift from the decorations in the room to the people once again, looking for someone to talk to. Iggy wasn't good at going up to people, he'd always relied on his innate ability to lure people to himself. it was once they came over to him that he became chatty and sociable , most of the time anyways.

Hugely disappointed and more than a little upset that Luka had chosen someone else rather than him, Devin crossed his arms and pouted. He hadn't wanted that stupid shadow anyway! He was sure that if he asked very nicely, Howl would share Puff. Still, the toddler was determined to pout, until he caught sight of someone he thought he knew.

"'Lome!" he cried, running towards the figure. But wait, where were her wings? "Hi! Hi Lome! I mithed you!"

Howl rose an eyebrow at Kali; he had a feeling the girl didn't like him. Well, he'd have to change that, wouldn't he? Vain wizard that he was, Howl wouldn't stand for a female disliking him. Especially not on his birthday. It was unthinkable, improbable, impossible--well, unless they were a certain female, and he'd married her. He shrugged at Katia. "Come get your favors later," he advised.

Half tempted to pump his fist in the air, half tempted to lecture Jillian on the use of dark magic, he turned to the woman with a wounded expression. "Me? Teach my apprentices something evil? Never. I only ever teach them things they will find useful in the future. Such as making it rain chocolate syrup or toys." Toys were a dangerous thing, when falling from the sky. He knew from experience. That'd show her to doubt him.

He looked towards Eve and gave her a thumbs up to show he approved of her progress. He briefly wondered if Sophie would teach her more about flowers. Already he was tempted to start calling her "Persphone".

"I could," Howl mused still in character, glancing at Azrael, before giving Regina a polite nod. "I wouldn't want to, however. This vile creature happens to be one of my guests. I beg of you, my queen, to be polite to him. He is well known amoung my guests, and I would hate very much for any one of them to become unhappy." He broke character to roll his eyes. Queen Regina of the Snow? That was laughable. "Here," he said, offering her a one of the glass bottles. "Open this later. It'll do something. Depends on who opens it as to what."

The only thing they couldn't do was provide live animals, and Howl had made sure of that personally. Just in case Devin got any ideas. Speaking of Devin, the toddler's cries alerted the wizard of a guest he had hoped for. He had written a personal invite. "Hey," he said, in the direction of the figure he assumed was Alome. Where were her wings? And why was she wearing a mask? "I'm glad you could make it," there was something genuine about that smile, though his eyes showed his concern. "We'll be serving cake soon," he said, when he seemed to have run out of things to say. He handed her a bottle with another smile. "This is magic," he explained. "The bottle can't break. Open it when you need something magical."

"Why did Howl make me babysit when he knew I was coming to the party anyway?" Loki asked of no one, though the shadow holding onto his hand clearly thought the boy was speaking to him. Said shadow chirped cheerfully in response.

"Pu, Pu!" Puff was excited. His host had sent him away, and now he got to go see him! "Pu, Uff!"

"Puff, Howl wants you to be good, okay? No eating all the food, no cleaning, no--" He hesitated in his lecture when the shadow wrapped its arms around him, red and green eyes wide and innocent, wings fluttering in a hopeful manner.

"Pu?"

Gah. Shadows were too cute. Loki found himself unable to be stern.

"Just be good, okay?"

"Pu!"

And so, they entered the house. Loki could only snicker as he spotted the horrified look on his cousin's face when he caught sight of Puff.

There was something about the little dark elf that made Alome smile, and seeming him run over to her just made her smile just a little wider.

"Hello Devin. It's been a while, hasn't it." She spoke, a hint of cheer in her voice. She picked the little one up, hugging him and giving him a small kiss on the cheek, holding onto him in her lap. "I've missed you so much~ I'm so happy to see that you're healthy and happy." Although most of what she had been saying about her feelings as of late were lies through her teeth, the affection she showed Devin was true. The little one always made her smile.

However, when Howl came by, her smile seemed to all but vanish, and her shoulders slouched a bit, causing her arms to lay loosely around Devin.

When offered the bottle, she held up her hand, pushing it away.

"I don't need it. Magical or not, things don't come that easy." She spoke softly, taking a hand to reach down for the wrapped gift that was by her feet. She then held it up to the wizard, her expression was one of neutrality. "This if for you. Happy birthday, Howl."

Azrael snorted at Howl's request for Regina to be polite. The witch, polite? That would be cause for celebration since the snow witch constantly looked down her nose at everyone and everything that passed her way. "Actually, yes. Some days even more so depending on how bored she is. I've seen her make kids cry before," he replied to Eve, grin returning to his face.

"I've been alright. Mother has been keeping home more often so I haven't found any more old and decaying cemeteries other than the really really weird one way out in the woods being our house..." The demon trailed off, pondering where he could have hidden a certain key to a certain creepy building he never could find time to explore. "Back to the topic of Regina, I wouldn't exactly use the word charming. You haven't had to deal with her for very long and be thankful for that," he added, gaze moving over to where Regina had now taken up residence by the musical instruments.

Eve smiled, "Your mother sounds interesting. I've been doing several paintings of the graveyard with the back gate." The ragdoll didn't know Regina, so she wouldn't know she would get along with her at all.

"Is she that hard to deal with?" Eve asked, thinking of doing a painting of Regina. She remembered another picture she had brought with and took it out of her pocket.

"I made you something, Azrael. A picture I drew and colored with paints," she handed the small frame picture to him. Hoping he would like it, or at least pretend to. The picture of Azrael was him in the tree in the strange graveyard that she met him in.

Tish gave Demyx a somewhat strained, but at the same time genuinely happy smile, and put a suddenly-struggling Axel down so the little redhead could tackle the other boy in a hug. "Demy! Fin'lly! Too many GIRLS!" the tiny Nobody declared, ruffling his twin's hair and hugging him in the squeezing manner only an infant can mange. Tish bit back a bigger smile and shook her head fondly at the two.

"Axel, don't hurt Demy, I know you're happy to see him but don't get overexcited, okay?"

Behind her, Miri peeked around her mother's legs and adjusted her mask, looking around curiously for kitties. "Games?" she echoed shyly, the red eyes of her mask glinting oddly in the light. Beside her sister, Luvvie waved to Howl, but decided not to bother him while he was talking to the girl in the mask - and what had happened to her wings? She had seen her before, and she'd had wings! Losing wings must be terrible, the little blonde thought, and instead wandered over to try and make some new friends - that little fuzzy boy looked awfully cute!

"'Ama. Pah-tee! Issa pah-tee!" Elise chirped from Tish's arms, wriggling until she was put down. Once she had, the baby waddled over to Howl, pulling a clumsy curtsy and twirled in a circle for him. "You' birf-day, righ'? Hah-py birf-day! I'm Elise, an' I'mma P'incess!"

Belle held onto her newest book as she held tightly to Jadyn's hand. She wasn't sure about this place, but meeting a real live book character - never mind that she herself was from a fairy tale; that was unimportant - would be so very fascinating! She adjusted her glasses and took a step in, almost running ahead of her dark elven mother and infant brother she was so excited.

Not used to her small legs, she tripped and fell halfway through the door, knocking her glasses off of her face and sending her sprawling. She did, however, manage to save the book; a copy of "The Wizard of Oz" that she had just started reading before they had to leave for the party. "O-ouch!" she yelped, and began the painstaking search for her glasses in the crowd.

Jadyn moved to help her daughter, and as she did, the infant that she held in her arms vanished, only to reappear a moment later about twenty feet away, a bright smile on his face as he giggled and clapped his hands. "P'NUT B'TTER!" He declared to the world at large, not trying to say anything particular - rather, he was just announcing his presence with his favorite words in the world.

Demyx greeted his brother with equal vigor. "Xelly, Xelly!" he cried, hugging the redheaded infant. "Too many girls," he agreed, nodding. "Daddy tryin' get one. A baby. Say we be a famlee. Got sisters 'ready," he glanced at Luvvie and Miri pointedly. He frowned up at his mother. "Xelly no hurt me. Xelly never hurt me. I luv him." That and he rather liked being squeezed and hugged by his brother; seeing as they had been apart for so long.

"Xelly, I come see you e'eryday. Kay? You come see me e'eryday too. Bring Mommy too. And sisters."

He disentangled himself from his brother and looked up at his mother. "You got new baby," he observed. "Still wan hugs from me?"

Demyx nodded at Miri. "Games! We play an' Howl give us p'izes!" He hesitated before adding, "Daddy no like Howl."

~~~~
Devin was pleased. He always did like soaking up the attention, when he received it from someone he knew. "Tank you," he said with a smile. "I mithed you too! Uh-huh, I happy and healthy and I play action figureth now! Daddy letth me." His smile faded when his brother arrived, sensing the change in Alome. What was this rift that had formed between them? Whatever it was, it was obvious even to a toddler that the two weren't getting along like they should have.
"I see," was all Howl had to say, his shoulders slumping. Oh well, he'd tried being friendly, hadn't he? He had even tried keeping conversation, though he had failed. He took the present, forcing a half smile, though he was genuinely grateful. "Thank you," he said pleasantly. "Want to join in some of the activities? There's going to be games soon."
He had been about to say more when the tiny princess Elise had taken center stage, at least in his eyes. "I know quite a few princesses," he mused, before bending to her level. "But you're the most adorable one I've seen yet." Lie. All infants and toddlers were adorable. "I'm a wizard," he added. "Can I do something for you, Princess Elise?" With a flick of the fingers and a soft spoken word, he held a teddy bear and offered it to the girl. "Look what I found. Here, you keep it for me." Then he offered her the bottle he'd meant to give Alome.
"Here. It's bottled magic, if you open it while thinking of one certain thing, maybe it'll happen. Mine always end up shooting fireworks." No idea why, either. It could have been because of Calcifer. He gave a cheerful wave to Luvvie. For once, this was a day he wouldn't have minded being called Lindsey.
~~~~

Loki spotted a toddler looking for something on the floor. He sighed and bent down to help her; ever being the gentlemen. Not. "Here," he said, "I'll help. Don't want you to be trampled, huh? You're awfully small. What are you looking for?"

Puff had by this time attached himself to his favorite wizard. "Pu! Pupu!"

Axel shook his head and scowled. "Nu-uh, I'm not bringing those GIRLS wi' me anywhere! I see 'em too much already!" The little redhead was still angry at his mother for getting him stuck with another sister instead of a new brother like he had been hoping for, and wasn't planning on letting the brunette forget it any time soon.

Smiling a bit, Tish took a seat along a back wall and held her arms out to Demy. "Of course I do, silly. You give the best Demyx-hugs ever!"

Miri beamed. "Oooh, sounds fun! Um.... why not? Mister Howl's nice t' me..."

Elise gasped in delight and took the teddy bear and the bottle, beaming up at the bigger child, falling down to sit on her rump and stare at him happily. "Fank you! Bu' i's you' birf-day pah-tee! You're s'pose's t' get p'esen's!" She declared, rising to her feet again after a moment. "I dance fo' yooooou!" The tiny Princess declared, twirling in place as her ability activated in front of everyone.

---

"My - my glasses," Belle said. "They fell off when I tripped. Thank you for helping," she said, continuing to reach around for them while clutching her book tightly to her chest. "My name's Belle, it's nicew to meet you," the toddler added, feeling it best to be polite to this stranger who was so kindly offering to help her.

Kupo giggled and teleported around the room, landing on top of Loki's head at the last. "Wheeee~!"

Meanwhile, little shadows were popping up among the crowd; Valdin - somehow clutching his carrot again - showed up behind Axel, peering around curiously. A little witch with an impish look on her face hung off of Tish's shoulder, cackling. "Heeheeheeheee~!"

"Little Devi~ I'll be sure to come visit you as much as I can, okay? I want to be best friends!" After giving Devin another squeeze, Alome gently set down on the floor, taking Howl's hand in hers. Her hands were surprisingly soft, especially for someone who worked in a garden all the time.

"Howl.. At the last party.. We never got a chance to dance together.. So I wanted to make up for that missed opportunity.. Would you dance with me?"

Before, she would have never been able to say such things. But now, as her eyes were hidden from the world, and her wings were gone.. She felts almost normal. Just another human child, with human desires, and a sense of shyness swept over her. She stood proud, however. It was amazing what a simple mask could do to change how one felt.

Kali surveyed the room again, watching Katia chase Dimitri around the room, demanding her shadow back. A little boy named Adam had joined in on the chase, thinking it a game of tag or something. If it was, it was a very deadly tag. Katia would probably shave Dimitri bald. She was rather posessive of Luka, and got pretty jealous whenever he seemed attached to someone else. It had been a big problem between her and Dimitri, lately.

Satisfied that the kids in her care, at least, weren't causing too much trouble, Kali regarded the clear bottles that many were carrying around the room. It was bottled magic, apparently; a dangerous idea, if she'd ever seen one. Whoever had thought that up was sure to be reckless, if not a complete idiot.
And it could only have been the vain wizard himself, the boy whose birthday this was...
Howl.

She turned and sought him out in the crowd, spotting him with a masked girl. Frowning, she slipped through people and walked up behind them. The kid wasn't much shorter than she was...but he was still shorter, demanded her pride, so she bowed her head to speak in his ear.

"Excuse me. I hate to interrupt," A lie. "but may I borrow you for a moment? Howl?" She smiled, hooking her hands behind her back and cocking her head to the side. "I'd like to talk to you."

"But they our sissies," Demyx said, frowning slightly at his favorite and only brother. "We gotta take care of 'em," he was clearly voicing his father's opinions here. Brothers were supposed to take care of their sisters, obviously. "Mommy gonna have a baby," he confided to his brother. "Mommy gonna have a baby. Auntie told me so. Maybe it be a boy? Hope so!" He paused, and without a second glance at his brother, ran into his mother's arms.

"Mommy, Mommy!" he cried, latching onto her as well as any infant could. "I missed you!" He had an infant's strength when it came to gripping. "You not 'placing me?" he asked, glancing pointedly at Elise as he voiced his concerns. "Still need me, right? You not gonna 'place me forever."

"Cuz Howl try turn his hair green when Daddy was all sad," Demyx explained, looking at Miri. "Howl try cheer him up, but green hair no make Daddy happy. Maked him mad. So Daddy no come."

~~~~
Devin took off once set down, heading for a certain toddler. He didn't recognize the reaper boy, nor did he especially like the looks of him, but the instruments looked interesting! "Hi!" was the cheerful greeting. "I Devi. What your name?"
Howl had a certain fondness for infants and toddlers, and so did appreciate her offer to dance for him. She had a certain generousity he usually lacked, and while he generally liked presents, tending to be greedy, he also enjoyed giving them away. He sensed a great deal of power from the tiny girl, and admired her for it.
He blinked down at his hand, and then looked to Alome. The wizard appeared puzzled, and gazed at her as if she was a particularly hard spell he was trying to figure out. "You wish to dance?" he asked, frowning slightly in thought. He wanted to watch Elise dance, he wanted to greet others; there were so many people he hadn't yet greeted, and needed to be. "Well..." he hesitated. He knew the consequences if certain people caught him dancing-- He knew he would get into trouble, and yet...
He couldn't bring himself to refuse. "One dan--" He started, until he set eyes on Kali and found himself staring. What a beautiful girl she was! "I'll be back, Alome," he promised, before his attention snapped back onto Kali. He flashed her his sunniest smile. "Where to?" he asked pleasantly. "And what do you want to talk about?" He was oblivious to the fact that she was older, and probably not so willing to believe in magic. She was pretty. And that was all that mattered.
~~~~~

"Are these them?" Loki asked, holding up a pair of round frame glasses. "If they're not, we can keep looking." He paused, and moved to look at the girl. "I'm Loki," he said. "Nice to meet you, Belle." He gave her a smile, trying not to reveal too much fang as he did so. He didn't want to frighten the poor girl off, now did he?

He only paused when Kupo landed on his head. He attempted to look up and laughed. "Well hello," he said, greeting the infant. "Want to come down? It's not safe up there. You might fall."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:22 pm

"Not far." She gestured over at a relatively empty corner of the room. There was a balloon monkey over there, but she was sure it wouldn't give them too much trouble.

Without waiting for Howl, she strode over, shooing away the rubber creature. It didn't really WANT to leave, being a rather foul tempered monkey, but a couple of swats from Kali sent it screeching across the room to irritate somebody else.

"I want to talk to you about your magic. In bottles. Isn't that a bit dangerous?" She asked, hands propped on her hips. She didn't MEAN to look as if she were lecturing him; time spent as a caretaker just made it habit. "What if something horrible happens when they're opened, and somebody gets hurt?" Ah, the root of her issue. If somebody, namely Katia, or one of her other 'kids' was hurt...Uncle Viktor would wring her neck.
Particularily if it were Katia.

A young man in his twenties ran after a especially dirty and sooty girl, yelling for her to stop and let him catch.

Aries scolded himself mentally for not taking the car to the party as he had wanted to enjoy the walk with his young Keya. The little girl, on the other hand, had seemed to want to run and make her father chase her. Something she was still doing and might end up with her father passing out from exhaustion of running after his very hyper and excited daughter.

Keya ran ahead of him, a good ten feet away from her father. Her birthday present was in a little box, a batch of her father's best cookies and some homemade fudge. She thought all children liked stuff like that. She did.

: Thali is a bad Thali. Partial. Could not resist. :

Howl decided his best bet was to put on the charm. He gave Kali his best innocent look; tilting his head at her and giving his most adorable smile. "Don't you think I thought of that?" he asked in an overly pleasant tone. "I would never allow anyone to get hurt at my party." Those eyes, how pure, blue, and innocent. His hair, how it fell to the side in just the right fashion, so perfect, it had to be intentional. And that smile. That smile. The smile that had won over hundreds of girls before, the smile he planned to use to win many more over, including his wife.

He was laying it on thick. Howl was working every charm in the book. Every charm he had, minus the literal one. The wizard could not, or perhaps would not stand for a girl, especially a beauty like this one was, to dislike him. "Nothing harmful comes from the bottles," he assured her with another smile, with another flash of his perfect not-yet-full set of teeth. "May I ask for your name?" he asked, tilting his head once more, again with the perfect hair-falling-to-the-side effect.

"You seem to know mine already, but it's always proper for a gentlemen to introduce himself first." He paused for dramatic effect. "I'm Howl," he said, as if he thought she might have expected his name to be Fred, or something along those lines. "Howell, really, though only witches and my sister call me that. Assuming you're not a witch, of course."

It was an act. What did he think she was, stupid? She raised an eyebrow at him, regarding the blue eyes, his blonde hair, his stunning smile.
It was adorable. She wanted to squeal. Actually, she was rather impressed that he was able to work his appearance so well.
But really, was she supposed to fall for it? Her pride thought not.

Swallowing back a squeal of "ADORABLE!" and muscling back a snuggle, she removed one fist from her hip and instead smirked at the boy.

"Nice to meet you, Howell." She said, smiling back with dark eyes somehow bright, despite their shade. She tilted her head also, slightly, her vibrant red hair brushing over smooth, milky white shoulders. Two could play at this game, she knew. "I'm Kalypso, really, but only my mother calls me that. You can call me Kali."
She paused, as he had, though this was to consider something to herself. A witch? Well, she could be called that, she supposed. But it was such a distasteful term. Witch. It didn't bring to mind her own beauty. It brought to mind green skin and warts.

"I'm not a witch." She decided, though the coy smile on her lips hinted that she was leaving something out. And, she was. While she did not classify herself as a witch, Kali was a magic user. She just preferred the title of mage.

Perhaps it would be fun to toy with this boy, since he wasn't plotting hell with his magic in bottles. He'd probably made sure they weren't able to do anything terrible, anyways. She had to credit him with SOME intelligence, since he'd managed to bottle it... However, she wondered if he'd figure it out without her needing to tell him first. Surely, if he was so great, he would pick up on it.
