OoC://[The funny thing is I actually work at a used car lot and we have this car on our lot. I was like. THIS WOULD BE PERFECT FOR A ZOMBIE INVASION.]

The engine churned at a low growl, as it prowled the streets. Christine missed the menacing roar she used to be able to make with one rev of the powerful piece of machinery she had basically built from scratch, but alas, sound was a luxury no one could enjoy anymore. Unless you had a death wish.

The crushing of gravel against tire was her theme song to the entrance with this group of odd balls. Unannounced to Christine, she was not alone. The engine cut off as she switched the stick into park, pulled up against the cemetery. The car door opened, and with a small thud Christine landed form her perch on the drivers seat.

The car was high, her seat at least 3 feet off the ground. It was a stick, black. A ford F350 extended cab pickup, fully customized with a front plow and side airbags. Just in case. Of course, being a mechanic and a car salesman payed off during the Apocalypse.

Christine walked to the back of her truck, and grabbed a black bag. She hauled it over the side, and dumped it onto an empty patch of ground on the cometary. Then, she placed a rock a little bit higher then the body bag. It read. RIP Harry Lemeonstien. Friend. Comedian. Martyr.

"You crazy ********> She choked, staring down at the bag in pain and disgust. She was really alone now. He was the one guy she thought would make it through the apocalypse with. But he had to be a ******** hero.

It was then she realized out in the distance, there was a shack. And around that shack, there was people. Well hell. She hadn't seen people in a while. she slank both hand into her pockets, and made her way over to them.

Crunch crunch cruch She wasn't very silent. Or stealthy. not that she cared. Her large black army boots seemed to be like a neon sign over her head, every time they packed some dirt or leaves or twigs into the ground.

"Yo." She announced, as she stopped in front of the group. there was one girl, and two guys. One of the men seemed to be somewhat out of breath, and there was a glint of something crazy in his eyes. The other male seemed collected. And finally, there was a girl, armed with a baseball bat.

"Well aren't you all a picture of friendly folks. So, do I need to be on the guest list to get in on this party?" Christine didn't like traveling alone. It was boring, and there was definitely safety in numbers. Christine had a smart a** apathetic personality and no bullshit tolerance policy that helped her group up with survivors before. She came off independent and tough, which groups liked. It also helped her avoid being ******** over. However, it didn't help her make friends, that was for sure.

His hands clutching into fists at the mention of killing their mothers, Alex stopped breathing for a moment, the memory of the blood on him, his families blood, washed over him. He wanted to vomit, but he held it back. He had to look intimidating to these people. If you showed any weakness, it was over for you. There was no sympathy in the Fall. Alex knew that all too well. Shooting a glance over to Jessee, Alex scowled. "Are you an idiot? I'm not about to toss down the only thing keeping me alive." He was about to say something else, when he looked over to the man, the one who acted like he was missing a few screws. He jumped for the metal pole he had been carrying before. Not before Alex had his hand in his pocket, quickly bringing out the .32 caliber revolver he had gotten from his father. The cold metal cooled his anger, somewhat, as the man started yelling and acting like they were slaves.

"Put it down. Now." His voice getting deep and menacing, Alex knew how to handle these types. Never put your back to them or they would stab it. Standing where he had been since he came out of the woods, Alex moved his right hand up, the one not holding the revolver, wiping some of the blood off his face. He looked more human now. He was pale, one bright green eye and one brown eye, both sending a firey glance to the man with the pole. It was only then he remembered the little girl behind Amanda, cowering there. He must look like a monster. The Fall had made him that way. Lowering his gun slightly, Alex's town leveled, trying to sound less...monster-like. "Put the pole down. We don't need anyone to get hurt."

And that was when he was startled by someone walking up to them. Eyes shooting to where the girl came from, Alex didn't move the gun from where he had it pointed. Christine didn't look like she had anything that could hurt them. Still, he wasn't about to let his guard down. Looking back to the man with the pole, Alex moved his gun down, though he still had it tightly gripped in his hand, his finger on the trigger. Now wasn't the time to be killing people who weren't infected.

"She's just a year or two younger then Michael was..." He whispered to himself. 'They had to kill their mommies too?' The sorrow in that one sentence would have been enough to kill anyone before the Fall. Jesse had to bite his tongue to keep himself from letting a tear fall for the two girls to his side, and for the memories that constantly clouded his mind of his brother and girlfriend. "Nice to meet you Amanda. Grace." He gave a fake but well rehearsed smile and a nod without taking his eyes off of the man in front of him.

He raised his weapon as he stepped in front of the delusional man. "Leave him be. Can't you see he's sick?" Daring to take a quick glance backward he continued on. "Not to mention he doesn't look like he could do much even if he was healthy." 'A gun. And here I am with only a metal club.'

Jesse didn't move despite the gun being lowered from them, instead, he spoke just loud enough for the sick man behind him to hear, appealing to his broken sense of personality. "My good sir," he tried his best at what could have been a southern accent to mimic 'Jack', "Would you mind doin' me a service and move over to those two young ladies over there? After all, two southern bells shouldn't be in a place like this, with people like these, without some sort of man protecting them, wouldn't ya' agree?" He couldn't believe what he was saying. After so many years of fighting for human rights, of going to rallies and meetings... "You see the savage in front of us?" He cringed at the word. "He's not to be trusted. At least, not right now... And he's dangerous, so when you walk over there, try your best to act as civil as possible. Hopefully then he might see how to act." Hopefully this little plan of his wouldn't back fire, but he didn't have time to wonder. 'Please don't let them be afraid... Please just let them play along...' He pleaded with himself as he strode forward, straight towards the man covered in blood.

"What sort of person levels a gun on his fellow man?" He asked, seeing Christine out of his peripheral vision. "If you ask me, you're nothing more then one of them. Another person trying to hunt us down." Though he didn't show much emotion, his disgust was more then evident in his tone. He had met people like him before. Those who hated everyone because of what happened, like it was their fault all this went down.

"I wouldn't really call this a pleasant get together, but if you want in then I guess we can't stop you. Not unless," Jesse looked down at the man's gun, "he was lying about not needing anyone to get hurt."

((YES!!! Thank you!!! This is exactly what I wanted when I made an insane person! YAY!))

His eyes cleared for a moment, not of the raging insanity, but of the fury he had felt at seeing all of those he had thought to be slaves standing about not working for their masters as they ought. But as this man spoke he saw he was no slave, no, he was to well mannered, to well spoken, and he was white after all...what had I been thinking? He shook his head and slowly a small kind smile came to his face, he stood up straight, and set the pole on the ground as if it was merely a walking stick. Instantly he was no longer the raging southern man, but a man begging forgiveness for his anger.

He bowed to the ladies, clutching the pole across his chest lightly as he bent at the waist, "My most sincere apologies madamn, I reacted before I truly saw who you were, will you forgive me?" even said with the strongest southern hick accent immaginable it couldn't have been more heartfelt.

He knelt by the small girl and smiled kindly, "Well hello little one. What could your name be? And where is your mother's man to protect you two?" He glanced about theatrically, "Well, no bother, I'll stay with you and make sure no hooligans or Yankees hurt you."

"The kind who's been stabbed in the back by people he's trusted, that's who." Grunting and putting his gun back inside his pocket, Alex walked past Jesse, slowing down just as he got to him. "If you think I'm going to kill you, then take that nail gun and shoot me. Save me the trouble." Picking his pace back up, Alex walked over to the shed, noticing there was a water valve to the left side of it. With the blood off his face, at least he looked less menacing. But with his clothes how they were? Well, fresh blood washed off. Kneeling down as he got to the valve, he turned the water on, only getting a slight trickle. It was enough. Pulling off his shirt Alex exposed his back to the others, showing a mass of scars over his right shoulder that went past his collarbone, over to his chest. Running the bloody shirt under the water, Alex tried his best to get the blood off his shirt. Most of it came off with the water, but there were still slight stains. Ringing the shirt out, Alex put it back on, pulling his hoodie closed and sipped up, it's black color mimicking his mood.

Standing back up, Alex turned around, a blank look on his face. "Might as well stay together then. I don't care if you think I'm savage or not, a group is better than going alone. Name's Alex." He didn't expect the rest of them to agree with him, least of all this Jesse. But still, he hated being alone. The more people were around him, no matter how sad it would make him, was better than running with no one to push you on.

The girls watched as the two Southern men spoke to one another, looking down Grace grinned at Amanda knowing that her little sister was starting to realize that these people where pretending to be people they weren’t, even though it was slightly awkward Grace felt that she should play along and knew that little Amanda would be all to game to play along with this strange set-up. So mimicking the accent best she could her voice softly spoke to Amanda, ”Now see here lil ‘Manda, we’re gunna play a game.” Amanda looked up with a wide cheery grin and simply watched her sister giggling lightly, it was the funniest thing to see her older sister use that silly voice.

”We’re from the south ya see, and well...” she looked about with a grin as she scanned everybody else’s faces for there responses, hoping they wouldn’t laugh at her. Looking down she continued, ”So we talk like this ya see?” Amanda busted out laughing and tugged on Amanda’s hoody. Inside graces heart exploded with joy to see her little sister laugh again, ”M’kay Gracie!” little Amanda’s untrained voice attempted to mimic the voice the best she could.

The two of them startled as the man knelt down beside her, Grace quickly yanked Amanda behind her and leveled her bat towards the man, ”I’m sorry sir.” she glared at him with a maternal look of, ”get near my baby, and I’ll rip your spine out of your but pucker.” ”But my little sister an’ I where told not to talk to strangers.” Looking about she stood back away from the man and Amanda took the hint and remained behind her, ”Now I know what she said then.” she looked back at the gentleman before her, ”But these man eating hooligans are all over the place.” she nodded as she looked at the man to her right, ”I think... we should start with names.” she knelt down beside Amanda and wrapped her arm around her, ”This is my little sister Amanda, she an’ I have been on the run for a long time.” Looking back to Amanda the little girl quickly spoke in her fake accent, ”An’ we don’t have our mommy anymore. We’re runnin’ jus’ like everybody else.” Smiling Grace stood, ”An’ I’m Grace.” Looking down she shook her head, before looking up and speaking again, ”Now... I’m not sure where y’all come from, but me’an’ my sis here rode into town in a bus. There where other people, a lot of other poeple...” she looked down as if pained to bring the topic up, ”I got a quick look into the gas station and seen plenty of food there before we where attacked by the fallen.” Looking up she continued, ”I was to scared to risk getting that food with my sister, but...” she looked about, ”Now that yer all here. I think we could get some of that before the Fallen noticed us.”

She hoped they would like the idea, and trust her just a little more. Not to mention it had been a couple days since she or Amanda had anything real to eat. The bags under her little sisters eyes was proof of that.

"Food? Why, you little darlins ain't eaten yet? Well that just won't do, now you two stay here and keep the stove goin, and us menfolk'll be back before you know it, alrighty then. Lets go!"

Vickery had noticed he was the highest ranking military officer present, and without any evidence to the contrary, took position as leader on the expedition for food as a matter of course. He looked over at the pretty boy with the gun on his hip, he seemed to be a competent tracker. "You, boy, come here, rustle up some tracks so we can find the way back to civilization and get these perty ladies some vitals."

WIthout waiting to see if Jesse responded Charlie/Vickery leapt up onto the roof of the shed using his pole to vault himself higher. Setting his hand to his brow he gazed about. "Ey, I can see a what seems to be a general store of somekind down the road a ways. Find us a path there will ya lad?"

"I wouldn't tempt me if I were you." He had lowered his voice to just above a whisper as Alex passed, watching the man with eyes that echoed with the slowly dying passion he had been all too known for before the fall. Even with such little time having passed since first laying eyes on him Jesse could tell that this Alex guy wasn't someone he was going to be trusting all too quickly. "Aye. As much as I hate to agree with you, it would be foolish to try going our separate ways right now..." Turning he walked back over to his small campsite and gathered up his gear, throwing it on his back, before grabbing the remaining spit from the fire.

"Here. It's not much, and it isn't gourmet by any means, but it should at least fill your stomachs until we get back with more." His voice, though still low, had become soft instead of the gruff tone he had just been using between the men and their new comer. Getting down on one knee he looked in to the little girl's eyes. "Hey there," he smiled, trying to come off as friendly as he possibly could, "is there anything I can try to scrounge up for you while we go out? A candy bar, maybe?" He tried his best too come off as he did before the Fall, to give the young girl some sort of familiarity that was otherwise lost in the confusion that they now lived in.

"Be right there, Sir." Jesse called over his shoulder. He couldn't wait much longer without risking breaking the madman's illusion. He could, however, count on the little girl calling after him if she wanted something in particular bad enough. "I'm just lacing my boots up tight and I'll be on my way." With that he gave little Amanda one last smile, nodded at Grace and turned to join the madman and Alex.

Grace sighed in relief at the man’s reaction and quickly led Amanda to the fire where Grace sat indian style and Amanda plopped playfully in her lap, where she lightly kicked at the fire. Grace in response simply leaned her chest on the little girl and spoke softly, ”Don’t play with the fire.” Amanda loved this pretending game this funny man was playing, and his voice sounded so convincing.

However as Jesse and Alex’s little confrontation flared slightly Grace simply looked at the fire and made a “oh great...” face and rolled her eyes with a heavy sigh. Simply wishing she could throw a curtain around them as they would probably tear each other apart later down the road and shield there anger and frustrations away from Amanda. In any case it seemed that the silence created by them quickly vanished as soon as Amanda grabbed ahold of the stick with meat. The little girl had been in Girl Scouts for a year and there father, though divorced from there mother was all gung-ho and whenever they went to visit him he took them “roughin’ “ and an animal on a stick was a common snack. Grace made fun of him for it then but now was greatful otherwise she feared little Amanda wouldn’t have any part of a gross looking hunk of meat with a stick shoved through the but pucker and out the mouth.

It makes me sick, but I can’t help it that now days you have to eat s**t-off-a-stick to keep your little sister from falling into a coma for the lack of nourishment.

I don’t care how hungry I get, I ain’t ever gunna eat one. Dad couldn’t get me to eat it, and neither can this guy.

Amanda looked up with drained but energetic eyes and through a mouthful instantly blurted, ”SOUP!” Grace looked down and leaned forward again and grunted while bumping her sisters head with her chin, Amanda quickly added, ”Please may I have soup?” Grace chuckled lightly and looked up at the man, ”Soup, or anything canned wouldn’t be a bad idea...” she gave him a “hello? Your name?” half crooked smile expecting he’d say his name when she did. There wasn’t any point in not sharing names out here, it wasn’t like she could steal money from his bank account and do anything with it... Besides, she hated computers and hated just having to try and figure out how iTunes worked to get music on her iTouch.

Technology sucks... but it didn’t suck so bad that I wanted it to go away forever.

Dammit...

”I know how to cook anything still in a can.” she said proudly, if roughin’ did anything it taught her how to feed herself when dad pulled his little “this is how they did it in the oldin’ days” ********’ dad...
