Sauce Control Emperor Angelo XXV Sauce Control OH MY SWEET JESUS. They DIDN'T. They DID NOT. If they think that they can relate to dumbass adolescents by having them explain the sexuality metaphor and the anti-feminist undertones, they can...But if that's all that they expect out of today's kids(to identify literary devices with no real meaning other than to sell to a specific demographic), then they goofed up REAL good. Yes, perhaps this is 'hip' with the kids, but if there are any kiddos with real potential in there, they'll recognize the bad writing and lack of a message immediately. Twilight is to books as Olive Garden is to chain restaurants - Created with an intent to cash in on a specific demographic with a specific appeal, while lacking any real substance or quality. That's why they are so successful. Unless what they're trying to do is to simply teach kids the lesson that I stated above(so that they may succeed in a business world populated by suckers), then I see no reason to pollute the curriculum. I call bullshit, school board. I. CALL. BULLSHIT. And yet the schools tend to easily ignore Chesterton and Belloc. How annoying of the school board!Ooof, I know. It's understandable that they don't want to study Christian apologetics in the public schools, but I think it should at least be recognized in the classrooms. I agree. They have epic messages and yet people ignore those messages in exchange for Nietzsche or Meyer. sad

WHY?!
What is wrong with your school?! It's not educational, so why is it there? I'd have gone and questioned whoever was put in charge of the approved reading list because eff that. D:

The Crinos Lol I find it awesome that this thread is still active WAY after I started it. WOuld anyone like to know the end results? ;3 Yes please tell us!! I remember not liking a book in high school and yet we had to write an essay on why the main character was a tragic hero. He wasn't. He was a whiny little b***h who ran away from his problems. but I had to give reasons as to why he WAS. I got a 50% on that essay because I wasn't persuasive enough. Well no s**t, Sherlock..... I hope you stuck to your guns!!

Well okay then.
When I wrote the essay, I didn't exactly have a thesis in mind, and it took me a little while to find solid ground to stand on. But I did eventually, after a few days. So I wrote the essay based on how A: The many many reasons they couldn't be counted in the vampire classification, and B: How much of an affront the entire series is to the vampire sub-culture, and how much crap it as spawned, a-la true blood and vampire diaries.
My teacher read it and gave me a dirty look. I failed. But I then took the essay to three other teachers in the english department and got 92%, 94%, and 90% respectively.
I may have failed the report on my transcripts, but I hold it as a personal victory.

So your teacher failed you on personal bias? I'm pretty sure she/he can get in trouble for that.

I wish I had the balls to give my true opinion in an essay. When I tried to give my teacher what he wanted I walked out with a 50% cause my essay wasn't persuasive enough. Kind hard to sell an argument you don't agree with.
Good for you dude. But if your teacher failed you off of their personal bias you should take that to the main office and fight it. That's wrong
