For a moment Moss was relieved to see his long lost brother crawling out of the pit, his joy quickly fading into his usual cold scowl, tattered ears pinning themselves back against his skull as he settled quite a fierce glare on his airhead brother..'HIS' mother? Wha happened to 'THEIR' mother! After all he had as much claim to her as he did, and once more he was about longer, the first born he was, the one who stuck about until the sticking was no longer needed!
"You empty headed piece o' fluff! I've got half a mind to string you up by that mane o' yours an' shave your hide bare! Yer' mother? Our mother! Cotton headed twit that you are-surprised you even remember her, an' yet you go n' forget me, yer own brother, the only bit o' livin relative ya got left!" Moss ranted on, absolutely peeved that he'd been forgotten. "Acorse I smell like moss, I am moss, MOSS IS ME, yer brother for cripesakes..Ya see what I'm talkin about here little ugly bump, flesh an' blood ain't meanin a thing no more, not a bloody thing."
Moss growled raspily, taking a few deep wheezes after his breathless little rant..was a hard thing for him to go on like that..In the back of his mind, wondering if there was still time to toss Essex back into the hole..was he even strong enough to pull the log back out before he did it? Maybe he'd have a better chance at tripping the blind lump in there..

Essex had nothing to say, nothing he could think crossed his mind at that moment. With a huff all that tuff of hair flew up but for a moment to reveal a Herla he never thought he'd see again. Was he angry for that long ago prank? Hardly. Did he miss this person? Definitely. As if all the fight had gone out of him and that once youthful presence seeped in, Essex deflated laying his tired head along his big brother's shoulder. "Thank the stars. My word thank you thank you. I had to be sure brother but I knew the minute your scent filled the air. There's only one I know with that scent. Tell me I'm not dreaming brother." The captain truly looked liked that little fawn that nipped at his brother's heels. "I'm sorry brother but that map you gave me was a fake. I tried to find the treasure but when I came back everyone was gone." All these years he never once thought that that prank was malicious maybe a little tasteless but never malicious not Moss he wouldn't do that on purpose. Right?

Moss stammered, at a loss of what to say or do, standing stalk still, frozen as a rock he was, eyes squeezed tight and ears drooping, a long buried sadness welling up deep in Moss's heart. For so long he'd thought he was alone, thought his little brother gone and fed to the worms and that it was all his doing! Only to find now, so many years later that Essex was good..that he remembered him..didn't even seem to blame him for what he'd been so sure was his fault. "Y-ya dolt, d-dont play me like that, here ranting off like some loon when ya knew me all along..I must look quite the fool." Moss sniffled and snorted, roughly nuzzling his fluffy headed brothers hair, taking in a whiff of scent long lost to him.
"I didn't mean ta' I swear it to you, the map was just play! Ye' weren't supposed to-to run off on some wild venture, t'was just supposed to keep ya busy a few hours, no more n that." Moss huffed softly, giving Essex a weary headbutt. The dolt..he'd never meant no harm..."Ya weren't supposed to go search fer the real thing.." It'd never come to mind that Essex had thought the treasure real, maybe if Moss had thought of that, they'd have found him all the sooner..then again, the way essex traveled, maybe not?

Shaking his head he gave his brother a lopsided grin. "Ya know I don't blame ya for that. With my thick skull I'd probably have gotten lost even without the map." He was certain of it but for now he was just glad that he wasn't the only one left in this world. That now he had someone of his own flesh and blood. "Even so, I got to meet wonderful Herla and they even taught me many things. When I came back I couldn't find you guys so I returned to them until I was old enough to be on my own." He supposed they had a lot of catching up to do. What better way then recap his adventurous fawnhood. He hadn't been completely alone, at least not how Moss would have thought.
"And that map wasn't completely fake. The treasure was actually the map itself, if I hadn't gotten lost where I did, Papa Joe would never have found me and I wouldn't be the grand Herla I am today. See I told you I'd be big!" He happily puffed up headbutting his playfully. Somehow, Essex seemed like that same little fawn that couldn't help yammering on about his adventures to the only other person that would listen. "But what about you? Where have you been all this time?"

Moss found himself grinning brightly, his baby brother didn't hate him, what a wonderful thing was that! "Tsk, we're sorry we weren't there to meetcha then, but ya know with everything that'd happened, we figured you'd gone and gotten yourself eaten if not completely lost. Thought it'd be best to move on insteada moping about.." Moss shrugged his hefty green shoulders, listening with great interest and intrigue as Essex went on. Talking of strange herla and adventures.."Yes, and your nothing if not big n' grand! Tho' ya could stand to loose some of that fluff on your head, no better n' a walking blindfold with all that mess of hair." Moss teased gruffly, giving a nice tug at his brothers thick mane.
"I'm glad to hear you weren't alone all this time, and that this..this Papa Joe sort took good care of ya. As for myself I was off havin my own grand adventures ya know! After we worked our tails off searching for you..wandered off and stayed with the folks a bit longer, didn't want them all alone, but at some point I had to go chasin' down my own dreams." Moss gave a firm nod, grinning proudly, he figured it'd be good for Essex to know his parents hadn't been completely alone. No they'd all lived good long lives. "I found myself some of the wildest fights you could imagine! Great beasts with horns n' claws, crazy things..and oh the wenchs, haha why I got myself in quite a sort with this one crazed dame. Them dames I tell you, they'll cause any buck to loose his hair, ifen not his mind!"
Moss puffed his chest out, trying his best to look a bit more sturdy and a tad less drooping. "An how exactly do you explain that thing, that Mr. Pickles o' yours, I swear never seen such a critter"

Essex chuckled listening to his brother animatedly, so it appeared he had an eventful life. Their parents weren't left alone and that was a major concern for the capt, he was relieved for that. Moss seemed to have had quite the time of his life, if all the scars on his body were any indication. Ah... now he remembered, Moss was big about roughin' up the local bucks who would pick on him for his wild dreaming habits. It was good to have his old brother back too.
"You know those wenches can cause a lot of problems but I've got my fair share of'em. Maybe I could introduce ya to my crew, these dames are a world apart though." Yep, nothing but a crew full of wenches he just couldn't deal with the likes of other bucks, they always felt like they could get big, puff up and show off. Not when he was in control of things, dim witted or not. Snorting Essex brought his thoughts back to the present glad for the reunion with his brother.
When mentioning a green bump, Mr. Pickles, he looked to the now sleeping creature and gave a rather rare soft smile. "He was like me. Got separated from his folks, I couldn't just leave him but boy does he have a flippant little mouth on'em." It was for the best, he didn't mind so much it was the only way Mr. Pickles knew how to be. "He's not a bad little thing, he really watches out for me when it comes down to it. Even if he can't do something he'll try no matter what. Besides he brought you to me so he ain't all that bad... right?"

"Oh-ho, yer fair share of em' you say? Putting notches in that there belt!" Moss didn't quite understand the saying himself..as does n' deers didn't wear much in the way of pants or belts, but his guardian insisted that it made sense. Whatever, Moss was just glad to hear his brother hadn't been completely lonely! Women were a healthy part of growing up, and all that nonsense. "Wenches and a crew" Moss sniffed, grinning proudly "Baby brother's gone and grown up without me, gotten yourself quite a life you have Essex, and I'd be interested in these fair dames of yours. Lord knows I've not met any sort of tail that could be considered tail in quite a while.." Moss huffed with a wheezy forlorn sigh. Oh woe was he..being out strutted by his little brother.
Moss chuckled gruffly at the mention of the little snot, fallen asleep already, and he hadn't even bothered to stay awake long enough to see the touching reunion! Little ugly bump.. "So you are a sweet heart underneath all that pirating aintcha? I got ta meet that sharp tongue of his first hand I did, he cares enough aboutcha to snap at me thats for sure." Giving the little sleeping creature a good look over..really was far less ugly when he was asleep like that.."He did do that one thing right, an I suppose, that makes him a first rate deck hand to have doesn't it."

With a quick huff of air, Essex gave is bro a sly smirk, one eye peeking out from that tuff of hair. "Alright, nuff of this pity party pow wow. Lets go get into some trouble." Turning to Mr. Pickles he walked over stomping his hooves just inches from the little creatures head. "Up ya lazy bum!"
"Ach! Captain! Wha... ?" Jumping to all fours the little creature hopped about a few times before gathering his wits. With a snort he headbutted Essex's leg with all his might, Essex didn't budge. "Stupid captain you are... don't do that! Scared me half out of my skin." Grumbling the green bump snorted moving to follow Essex as he returned to Moss' side.
"Alright enough of the whinning. So tell me bro, what kinds of things ya like to do? I'm sure I could get a few wenches for ya..." Possibly but finding them dames was a whole other ball park. They just loved to wander.

If Moss'd had the gumption to pronk in place he woulda for sure, an air of excitement about his presence all the same, joyful at hearin he'd get to make trouble with his little bro. "Pfft, trouble, ye dont know the meaning of the word. We'll find some top notch trouble ta crawl into, one that ends in a good fight and lotsa sweet dames" Moss barked eagerly, snickering -though it sounded more like he was hacking- at the sight of the newly woken little bump.
"Oi, why in blue blazes was he sleepin anyhow? Wasn't him that pushed the big log all the way out here. I say ye' deserved ta get yourself scared." Moss giving Mr. Pickles a cockeyed grin all the while, trying to think..for the life of him..when the last time was he did things.. "Things that I like to do huh, well I like to eat for sure, not that the log before was bein' very givin' with its bounty. I say though, the best thing for a family reunion is a good ol' treasure hunt! I hear there be some caves at the forest's edge, one's that go down instead a out..I hear there's things that glow in there at night..might be exciting to see."

At the sound of treasure stars swam in Essex's eyes. He loved nothing more than to hunt for pretty things he could hoard and collect. If anything his little skull cap were part of his treasures over the years. "Treasure hunt it is..." He agreed trying his damn hardest to ignore Mr. Pickles who decided he wanted to pipe in suddenly.
"Dealing with your surly a** I have all the rights to take a nap. Sorry sap.. this is how ya treat me after reuniting you with your brother?" He snorted stomping his little hooves. "Ya wanted a reward for helping well.. there it is... so at least give me my peace of mind." With one final snort he buckled behind Essex making sure the Captain's big brother didn't decided to get violent. He was half way sure Essex would at least defend him.
The capt smiled though, he liked the little creatures spunk. It was the only thing keeping him alive for now, for he couldn't stand a cowardly soul. Nope not Essex! "Well then brother o' mine, lead the way. Treasure is out there waitin' to be found!"

Moss wanted to tell the spunky little gottling off, but truthfully, Mr. Pickles had a good point, a silly name and a good point.."Tsk, lucky little piece of gunk, havin' him to stand between us. I'll give you this one though..getting my brother back is the best prize I ever could have gotten. Next time it happens, you could be less of a snip about explaining things ta' me!" Moss snorted stubbornly, giving him a slightly crooked smile.
"Asides, maybe I can make it up to ya by finding a nice piece of treasure for your ugly hide.." Moss was almost regretting waking the thing, he was much much more fun to deal with when sleeping then he was when awake. "Ah..lesee..I believe.." Moss tilted his head to the sky, making sure to skirt the sink hole as he turned, before spotting the right direction. "Ahah, this way off to the north, along the edge o' the forest here, old caves fulla treasure! Lets just make sure to avoid any other holes tho..I expect you can manage that gottling?" Moss nodded sternly before marching off.
