"Have fun you two, try not to stay out too late."
Rong Wei's mocking words were followed by something in Chinese, and whatever it was she said Ripley's wings tensed for a moment before his face lit up in what could be considered a blush. Instead of turning red the Frei's face actually got a bit darker in its shade of brown, making it look like someone had put a bit of mud on his cheeks. In an effort not to ruin whatever he already had Ripley did his best to not respond and instead nodded politely towards Lucia as she went to the door, ready to follow her until they reached the museum. He wasn't sure of its exact location so he'd be in a bit of a bind if she asked him to lead the way, but he doubted Lucia would trust him enough or think enough of him to ask. There was just something about the way she looked at him that reminded him of how Eiry had viewed him - young and stupid. Maybe he was wrong, but he doubted that too.
When they'd reached a good deal down the road Ripley decided that he ought to say at least one or two things, to make it seem like he wasn't entirely a moody Raevan. It would have been easier for him to explain that Rong Wei was being cocky and normally didn't act like that - therefore he didn't normally act like that - but then he might have to confess to the fact that he regularly used to beat the woman he called his guardian. Not really a good idea either.
"Thank you for agreeing to come along. I've been wanting to go and see the exhibit for a while now but Rong Wei hasn't had the time nor much of a desire to take me. So really, thanks."
It wasn't hard for Ripely to say thank you and sound like he meant it when he actually did. He'd been counting the days on his calender until this particular show arrived, seeing as he'd seen the ad in the paper and sometimes on the radio, and he'd been hoping so much to be able to go and see it bfore it left. There was rumor that it may actually be kept at the musuem if it grew popular enough, and Ripley hoped it certainly would turn out that way.
"I've heard they have some mummies, both human and animal. I've always found the process of mummification fascinating because of how much delicate work was put into it, and how much respect went towards every step of the procedure. It's hard to imagine how they could have figured something like that out, you know?"

Lucia didn't know Rong Wei to catch on to the mocking, but she knew she didn't like someone speaking a foreign language around her, especially when she had the feeling the words were about her. Looking at him reacting rather calmly to his guardian's words, she decided not to worry about it. "Do you know how to get there? I think I've passed it a few times. It's this way, right?"
The Kitten liked traveling quietly. She was used to it, really. Most often when floating around she was either by herself, or, not too long ago, she had had Zul by her side. Either way, it was quiet and calm. She didn't want to come off as haughty, so when Ripley began speaking to her, her face turned to him as they floated side-by-side. "I'm glad we could go then. And you could always go by yourself too, ya know. Especially once we figure out where it is." She knew a lot about having a hard time dealing with guardians. Her own, especially when as young as Ripley, had not exactly been the most reasonable. They had definitely had their own problems.
"So it is that Egyptian exhibit that I read about." Lucia smiled. "You never mentioned which exhibit, but I suspected as much." Hearing him describe his fascination, she could finally appreciate the frei. He seemed to have a lot of passion for it. "I think it's crazy how preserved everything still is. I don't know too much about that culture. But if they can find all of that stuff now, they must have known what they were doing. It makes me think: what will people find of us raevans in the future. Ya know?" She smiled laughed lightly before her voice faded to silence. Then softly she said what was really on her mind.
"I had a hard time with my guardian too," she said quietly. "You just learn to be more independent." She looked at him, almost appraising what he thought of her just blurting it out. But it wasn't something she could miss - the similarities. Hell, Yuurei was the catalyst that drove her into the spirit world to be possessed by a killer. She wouldn't say it out loud, though. And she knew it was Brian's fault Yuu got attacked, not hers and not Rei's.
Ripley could either talk to her about it, be silent, or ignore her words and continue discussion the exhibit they were going to see. Either way, Lucia realized, she didn't mind. Maybe she had learned something from Zul. The thought was kind of satisfying.

Well, crap. If Lucia didn't know how to get there (like she just said) that meant that Ripley sort of had to wing it. Thankfully he'd read the map enough times in hopes of coming to the museum sometime soon that he had it memorized, but putting something from theory into practice was quite different when the time came down to it. Hopefully if the streets had not changed he could navigate by signs, and thankfully since his map was more recent and it was still light enough out he could indeed follow the way there. Plus there was a billboard or two, not that he was counting.
"You're right that I could always go by myself, but I think history is something that is meant to be shared by as many people as possible with as many people as possible. Plus it's generally more enjoyable when you have someone with you, don't you agree? That applies to almost anything as far as I can tell, though I will admit there are certain things I do enjoy doing alone."
Going new places was not one of his preferred solo activities. Rong Wei knew that which was one of the reasons why she was withholding him going, and the Sphinx Frei resented her all the more for it. His thoughts didn't dwell on it too long however as Lucia started talking again and he turned the pair down one of the roads that lead to the museum, his eyes keeping a careful watch over each sign they passed.
"You must think it's a little typical for a Frei with the soul of an Egyptian Sphinx to want to see such an exhibit, but really I want to go because it's a chapter in mankind's history that still has so much unanswered about it. I find the culture fascinating how it endured for as long as it must have only to vanish so quickly off the face of the planet, and yes. . . .I do wonder what they will find of Raevans in the future. Perhaps it's up to all of us then to find ways to show they we existed? To leave our mark on this world when it's time to go?"
Ripley outright ignored all comments about guardians, though his face did sour for a nanosecond as he let it filter from one ear in and out the other. His issues with Rong Wei were not to be shared with anyone, not even Rivener and certainly not someone he barely knew. Rong Wei seemed to like this Sigel - perhaps the feeling was mutual and there was a risk of her sharing information best left unsaid. Almost as suddenly as the sour had occurred it was replaced with a look of happiness a the musuem drew into view - all lit up and upon. Ripley would have trembled for joy if he were any lesser Raevan, but instead he settled on a genuine smile.
"It looks like they're still open after all. Once we're done looking at the exhibit I'd like to see if there anywhere else inside there you'd like to go? I've never been so I don't know what else they offer."

Nodding a little absentmindedly as she looked at the street names and realized she read all directions by feel and landmarks. It could be nice to be with someone. But exploring alone is fun as well. She had often explored areas alone. Not that it mattered now.
Lucia nodded at his random defensive comment. "I didn't mean to say it was cliche. If it's what you're into, great. I'm glad I could go." As he fell into silence at her statement, the sigel decided she really didn't care. If he listened, great. If he ignored her, okay. If he wanted to talk, it would certainly be nicer than going around with a zombie - or maybe mummy would be a better analogy - either way she would be fine.
It was fun doing things together, but the Kitten certainly was independent. Though it seemed that Ripley knew where he was going well enough to lead them to the museum. As her violet eyes took in the white columned building, Lucia glanced over at the frei. His excitement was almost palpable. Despite his straightforward conversation, he seemed to be a different raevan from the one who stormed into the nail salon.
"Sounds great! Like I said, I've never been in there, so I'm not entirely sure what exhibits they have." She looked at the large building, a little excited herself. It could be an interesting night after all.
Leading the way into the museum, Lucia turned and watched Ripley's face, excited more to see his reaction to everything than the exhibits themselves. The large carved sculpture of an Egyptian king, decorating the entryway to get everyone excited for the visit was the reason for her stare. He seemed to have been waiting a while for this.
A smile on her face, she looked at him coyly. "Wha'da'ya think?"

Ripley was doing his best (read: it was almost impossible) not to have a kid in a candy store grin on his face at the sight of the museum and the statues waiting to greet him, though the corner of his mouth twitched ever so slightly and threatened to break his poker face completely. He kept his hands with fingertips pressed together as the pair approached and, to his delight, was told the museum was free since he was 'in costume' and therefore both Ripley and Lucia could enter without any difficulties. Somehow being a Frei who looked like they belonged greatly paid off.
"Let me get a map and then we can get moving. If you'll wait here for a moment I'll be right back."
The dark skinned male floated off and found what he was looking for, a printed directory of the exhibits, and he thanked everything above that he knew how to read and therefore wouldn't have a hard time finding whatever he wanted as well as having to ask Lucia to read the displays for him. They could both read in silence in this case, not to mention they could drift apart and not have to worry. Also, another good thing - the exhibit was open for at least two more hours giving him plenty of time to see everything at least once. Satisfied with checking it over he folded the paper up and held it in his hands, returning to the Sigel's side with a calm expression that completely hid his excitement.
"It's open for two more hours. Is there anything you'd like to see first, or shall we just move in a circle?"

Nonplussed that he ignored her question, the sigel was content watching his face struggle to keep the stoic expression. She'd met antagonistic raevans before. She lived with one -- Roux -- for months. But she did not see that in the child-like frei next to her. Temper tantrums, she thought a smile on her face.
"Thank you!" she said to the man who was impressed by Ripley's "dressing up" to be like the Egyptian exhibit. She watched as Ripley moved away, asking her to remain here while he got a map. She began looking around, waiting for her tour guide to return.
As he came back, the same stoic look on his face, Lucia looked around slightly and shrugged. "Why don't you lead the way? Like I said, I don't know much about this culture. I bet you could tell me a lot -- or I can let you go around on your own if you don't think you can tell me much." Mischief was hidden well behind the Kitten's eyes as she waited for Ripley's response to her sideways taunt and provocation into spending time with her.
