He grinned as she pouted and looked away. That was better. She looked a little more like her unbearable self now. "I grew up where the deepest water didn't come up over your toe knuckles." He answered honestly. "Swimming was not a common nor a necessary skill. When I left, it never came up really."
He had to think for a moment. "Teach me to swim." It wasn't totally a request, but a statement. "And I'll help you with your pokemon, if you'd like. Fair trade, isn't it?"

"Hm... I don't know... Aki is a bad influence on Newton." She still remembered when the two pokemon ran off together. That was how she got Bunsen. Nyx stared at Mau for a moment and then sighed. "Fine. Bring your water wings. I'll bring a helmet."
Beaker Island resurfaced finally. There was no Nyxzilla around to stomp on her shell, so she returned to her lazy floating.
One day, Nyx would train that Blastoise. One day.

Mau laughed. "Aki? Bad? You must be joking." He shook his head. "It's not like Aki makes kissy faces at all the girls. I think Newton is the bad influence. And Nuu got some of his quirks." Which gave him an idea, and he couldn't help but laugh. "Maybe I should use Nuu as a floaty.
With Beaker surfacing again. Aki yipped happily. More waves? He wanted to surf on the waves again like when she had been trying to shake Nyx off. But this turtle was not cooperating! Aki was very tempted to use surf, just to get more waves.

"If Aki had lips, he'd be just as bad as Newton." Nyx pushed away from the side of the pool with her legs and crossed her arms as she was propelled backwards through the water. When she finally slowed, she uncrossed her arms and went back to treading water.
Nyx smiled at Mau's comment about Nuu. "Apples not falling far from the tree, and all that. Newton makes a good beach ball."
Beaker did not feel like making waves. "Blaaaaas..." She complained at the Vaporeon's yipping.

Well that was no fun. Aki blew bubbles in the water in defeat. No fun waves. And Surf might hurt the small lady in the pool. Aki let himself puddle into the water of the pool, vanishing from sight.
Mau laughed. "I bet he does. Nuu..." What was she good at? Other then pissing people off that is. "...is her father's child..." He stood up and stretched a moment. "Now there's an experiment. Try and genetically modify an eevee to have lips."

Beaker looked pleased as the Vaporeon disappeared from sight. Finally. She had the pool all to herself, well, except for her trainer.
Nyx sighed. She hadn't spent much time around any of the other drifloon spawn besides Bunsen, but from what she'd seen, they were all crazy. "I'm not sure what use eevee lips would be... maybe like slowpoke tails."

"Slowpoke tails... Ah, so they can go fishing." He was teasing. But then, the idea of an eevee trying to fish with it's lips... The idea just began making him laugh. "Can you imagine an eevee with a fishface?" Just to make his point, he puckerd his lips out to imitate fish lips. "Eevee~" he managed to say through his squished lips.

Nyx stared silently at Mau as he became a fishy faced eevee. Then she sputtered suddenly and began laughing violently, smacking the water like one would a table when a friend told a good joke.
"Ha!-You look like newton!" She squeaked out between laughing fits.

Mau cleared his throat, and gave his best "Floon" while trying to maintain the kissy face. It was not easy. At least she stopped pouting though.
He waited a bit before asking "Do you mind if I watch you swim?"

Her laughing fit took longer to subside than it would have if Mau hadn't added that 'floon'. When it did, and she heard Mau's request, she blinked at him. It was strange request, but not outrageous. Nyx shrugged. "I suppose."
It was about time for her to stop gabbing and do some laps, so laps she did. She threw her arm up and forward, and scooped the water around her body, repeating the motion over and over while kicking, making her way to one end of the pool to the other.
After the first raid, Nyx found it imperative to strengthen her swimming skills, and even though she didn't get to as often as she would like, she was not a bad swimmer.
Beaker watched her trainer for a lap before joining in. She had to train for that rematch, after all.

Aki's head materialized in the pool as Nyx and Beaker began swimming laps. It looked like fun, so he began swimming along with them. It was kind of interesting, to see the three of them swimming, and how different their motions were. Of course he'd seen Aki swim several times. But not a blastoise.
And not Nyx. He watched her hands slice through the water as she moved. It was quite interesting to watch.

At the end of the lap Nyx stopped and grabbed a hold of her pool ledge. Beaker didn't stop, she wasn't even winded yet. Nyx, however, seemed to be taking a quick break.
A minute or so passed and Nyx took a few deep breaths, then pushed off the wall and angled down under the water. She made it half way across the large pool before she had to come up for air. "Drat." Nyx finished swimming the rest of the way above water. It was her goal to swim the entire length of the pool and back without coming up, but she couldn't do it yet.

Mau watched her swim, and was curious when she began swimming under water and watched her a little more intently then he had intended. She had a pretty nice form. ... That is, for a scientist. He watched over her as she swam to the end of the pool. Aki popped up and looked at Mau. Apparently, swimming was boring now.
"Hey Nyx, would you like to have a battle?"

Nyx's face went blank as Mau spoke up. After a moment, a mix of fear and conflict took residence there. She needed to learn to battle. They'd already agreed training lessons in exchange for swim lessons... but she hadn't thought class would be starting so soon.
She didn't say anything, simply hoisted herself out of the pool and walked over to the chair with her towel and pokeballs. She wrapped the towel around her body, like a terrycloth dress, and carried her pokeballs over to where Mau was sitting.
"... A-alright." She squeaked. There were six pokeballs.

Mau smiled at Nyx. "Don't be so nervous. This is just practice, alright?" He thought a moment. What was it that old professor had said? Some garbage about pokemon feeling how you feel. "The more confidant you are, the better you'll battle. Eventually it will be second nature, and you won't have to waste time worrying about what to do in a battle."
He looked out at the pool and nodded to Aki. "I've only got 4 pokemon. Want to make it 4 on 4? Or will you go all out?" Aki perked up. Battle! Battling was pretty fun.
