Brian stared right back at the arthropod, unworried. "Well you're a fairly big bug." He floated lower to the ground and closer to the large scorpion still apparently without a care in the world. He did keep a wary eye on it just in case it did decide to attack him.

((Dice or rp battle imminent unless you make maneuvers to retreat, Brian. If you want a dice battle I'll roll next post.))
The creature hissed again and backed up several steps, clicking its claws in tandem. It wasn't the only scorpion that had noticed Brian however, several others were quickly and quietly approaching from behind. The realm of Chaos was all but a wasteland and could not naturally support life. So, for sustenance, the monsters that lived there relied on whatever organic life that happened to drop in...
------------------------------------------------------------------
For a moment, there was only silence and the far off rumble of Chaos' troubled skies as Eris contemplated what had just been said. This was different. Eris knew she owed him a favor, she had likely sworn to return it. This request however, was not exactly what she had been expecting. She wasn't quite sure what to think of it.
"You want me to protect your daughter?" Eris replied, a little incredulous. "Are you quite sure about that? I'm not accustomed to playing the guardian angel."

"I don't expect you to be. But it would be appreciated if the forces of Chaos steered clear of her." She hadn't been expecting that, had she? The sorcerer's head tilted to one side in an almost birdlike gesture. "What were you expecting me to ask for?"

Eris laughed a little. Things seemed a little clearer now.
"So, more simply put, you want me and my own to stay as far away from your little offspring as possible? Is that it?"
She rested one hand on her chin thoughtfully. Her words had to be very carefully chosen here. When a goddess swears an oath, she is bound for all eternity. Her word obligated her to return the favor, but she didn't want to bind herself up further if it was at all possible.
"As to what I thought you would ask?" Eris spoke again. "Well, I had hoped it would be something fun, you know, that involved destroying things."

"And if any creatures that mean her harm met with untimely deaths, it would be much appreciated. Even unborn, there are those that would destroy her for her lineage."
His expression sobered even further, almost melancholy.
"I may come to you in the future for a bargain of that nature. Though, knowing you, the price may be too high."

Haew fell from the entrance, hitting the sand with a loud thud. He groaned for a moment before picking himself up, making sure the cloak-wrapped object at his side was safe. He muttered some curses under his breath before looking around. "Why is it that I get dropped in strange places whenever I decide to sift through tombs? I mean honestly, it can't ever happen when I'm bored and not doing anything?"

((Edit: Hello Grim! Didn't see you there. I'll respond to your post in a bit.))
"For what I can do, the price is fair," Eris replied curtly. "Is its so very wrong that I want to look out for my own interests?"
The idea of destroying creatures whose ultimate goals she might want to further, did not sit well with Eris and she was feeling a bit cross.
Then, an interesting thought wormed its way into her mind. With both gods and men, the apple does not always fall far from the tree. She considered the younger days of Emma and Hrothbert and smiled slightly to herself. Maybe a little sacrifice now, would be worth the investment in the long run?
"Very well," Eris replied, with a sigh. "I suppose I owe it to you. I will do what I can to steer danger away from her. Though you should know, I cannot protect her from everything. Neither can I interfere with free will, both other's and hers."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Haew would have landed not far from where Brian had originally started. Before him was the restless rolling desert, in constant motion and treacherous to tread upon. Behind him was the black mountain range and slightly to the left, the ghostly silhouette of a distant city.
The earth beneath him rumbled a warning, and not far off a chasm in the ground split wide open, swallowing sand into its depths.

Brian looked at the scorpion and pondered his options. It was unlikely the beasts were any threat to him and he was currently in his hero persona. Randomly killing the wildlife wasn't a very heroic thing to do. He frowned at this and looked at his outfit. Glancing back at the skies he shrugged. It wasn't like it really mattered. Especially not here. A grin spread slowly across the man's face as he lowered himself with in stinging and snapping distance of the creatures. He had nothing better to do at the moment after all.
((RP battle please. I'd rather not have Brian lose to a bunch of arthropods if the dice gods decide to hate on me.))

"I would not ask that of you...I do miss the days when I was yours, you know."
He was not sure how she meant to seal the deal, deities always had their little quirks with bargains and oaths.
"Are we agreed, then?"

The scorpion facing brian, suddenly stopped backing away. It issued a final low hiss and curled its sharp tail forward, the stinger dripping with venom. The three scorpions that had gathered behind Brian, were less cautious. They crawled forward quickly started snapping their claws at him. The smaller, more nimble of the three sprang forward and landed on his back. It arched its tail, preparing to sting him on the neck.

"Perhaps those days will come again," Eris replied, a wicked smile settling on her lips.
There were already a couple plans spinning around in her mind to ensure that.
"Now," Eris said suddenly. "I don't like to make things too formal, but its important to make these things official. Don't want any loose ends mucking things up."
Throwing her shoulders back, Eris drew herself up to her full height (her normal height, anyway) and began to speak.
"I, Eris, swear by the river Styx, to do no harm to the daughter of the Lady and Lord of Bainbridge, and to use what power I have to ensure her safety till the time of her natural death. In so doing, I pay my debt and fulfill my oath."
Eris grinned and traced her index finger over where her heart should be.
"Cross my heart," she added, playfully.
((Finished. Got called away. @Grim: For now its just there. I'm afraid I haven't thought too far ahead. Sorry if I wasn't clear.))

He took her hand, placing a chaste kiss on the back of it. "Thank you, milady. Though I doubt those days will have a resurgence anytime soon."
Silver-blue light gathered around him as he released her hand, signaling the release of his side of the debt. "If you would like to stop by after the child is born, I'm sure Emma would love to see you again."

((In case you didn't see my response above, Grim. The chasm is not currently widening further. That's not to say this will remain so, but for now its just sitting there.))
Wise man. It should be pretty well known Eris doesn't like to be overlooked where invitations are concerned.
"Hmm... I may take you up on that," Eris said, raising one eyebrow when he kissed her hand.
As the silver-blue light swirled around the sorcerer, Eris stepped back slightly. The smoky black wisps of her aura billowed around her and foreshadowed her own departure. She was curious to see if the shifts in chaos energy had produced anything of interest. First, a few final parting words.
"Take care, sorcerer." Eris spoke above the wind. "Especially since I'm only really obligated to your daughter."
Everyone else was technically still fair game.

((Just checking))
Haew Walked to the edge of the chasm, looking down. "Well, if this was hell, there wouldn't be anything lower than me, and I don't think I died. Must be a goddess or something, otherwise Kingforge would have warned me of the magic...." He theorized out loud, looking down. "Now, is the city and mountain an illusion? Does the chasm contain beasts unknown? Or is it merely something that appears through moving earth....Dammit, where is Gemi, he would be able to tell..." Haew moves so that the chasm is still in sight, but not at the edge.

He knew his mythology well, and was quite aware of the deity's temper.
"I shall."
Hrothbert still had a few tricks up his sleeve should she turn against him; she was not the only divine being who owed him a favor. It would certainly be interesting to pit two goddesses against each other, wouldn't it?
But the safety of his child mattered more than his own desires.
With that, his own magic gathered about him and the sorcerer vanished into thin air.
