"Beaker, put me down, now!" Nyx pleaded. Beaker dropped her trainer who lost her footing when she was dropped and fell onto her bottom. "Umph- Ow..." She glared up at her Blastoise. The Blastoise grinned back evilly at her.

That was how it went with Beaker. Orders were twisted into things barely resembling their original form. Beaker would never let anything horrible happen to her trainer, but she would be damned if she ever let Nyx off easy.

Nyx sighed and pushed herself to her feet, brushing off her nice white agent's uniform. "Behave, or I swear, you'll never see a battle again."

Faleen had to admit, she would never have thought she would ever see a fire type leap into a pool of water like that. The somewhat surreal sight only proved to grow Faleen’s respect for this women… he listened to his master, the way a Pokemon should
but to have the power to command a fire into water… that was quite something.
Aside from that, the words she spoke, being closely listened to by the grunt, made complete sense to Faleen, it was close to what she believed, in fact it was exactly what she believed, only she had no experience or skills like the elite did.
The grin that had been put on her face when the Archanine returned to his master, slowly faded with the instructor’s last question, replaced with that of thoughtfulness… interesting inquiry… and it took Faleen a moment to consider before she even thought of answering.

It was at this time that she took a moment to glance around the room, the number of people… and Pokemon had increased, Faleen took noticed that everyone had at least one of their own pokemon out, it would appear she was the only one who hadn’t released any from her team.
The barest of flushes speared over her cheek bones as she wondered if she was supposed to, but there had been no order, to the balls remained untouched on her thigh.

Folding her arms over her chest, she looked to Nadja, opening her mouth to speak, before a series of events interrupted her.
The sound of more pokemon being released, talking, and even a cry of fear…?
Glancing over to the side with a frown on her face now, eyes no longer as large as they usually are as she looked over for the source of the noise, looking mildly annoyed.
Some more talking, but this one came from a more familiar voice, and sure enough, there was Seth.
Blinking in surprise, having another elite in the room, Faleen took a breath, and looked back over at Nadja in an attempt to ignore the distractions.
“An understanding, or similar goals…” she wasn’t too sure how else to answer the question, now that she thought about it, maybe she’s gotten off easy with the pokemon she had, none of them would dare misbehave.
“Consistency… giving clear firm orders I expect them to follow… I can’t say I’ve had much trouble with them”
while that might be true with most of her pokemon, there was one that was different from the other two. Her newest one, while he didn’t disobey, he was much more aloof and less stiff as the other two, a born wild pokemon. She had to handle him different from the moment she laid eyes on him.
“Not in all cases…”

Jen held back a laugh at Seth's comment as one of the grunts went running from the room. But the sight of Seth looming over the class did not hold her attention for long; Nadja's Arcanine, at command, had doven into the pool to fetch.

At this, Jen let out an admiring whistle. Even Cinaed let out a sound of admiration at his fellow fire-type. To have a pokemon go against its weakness with such little hesitation...

Not even her parents mastered that in all their years of being Pokemon Breeders.

Clearly Nadja was a class above them.
And Jen was ready to learn.
But first...that question...

As Cinaed straightened up a bit (clearly in awe over the pokemons' display) Jen let her forefinger tap her chin a few times before letting the words in her head flow out of her mouth:

"Letting your pokemon know what is to be done before any mission or excercise. Making sure that they know in their very bones what is to be done. And making sure that any sort of promised reward does not come until said objective is complete." The grunt attempted to choose her words as best she could, without making them sound like a jumbled mess. "Many stubburn pokemon may often back down if met with someone just as hardheaded if they attempt to resist their commands, if not more." Jen let a faint smile cross her face at that, thinking of a certain Pikachu curled up in one of the pokeballs at her belt.

Sorano scoffed at his sister as she went running. Way to live up to the Dinkley name of being a coward. Was he the only one in his family who at least sorta-kinda knew what he was doing? Pushing away his 'new' Charizard, he turned to answer but was cut off as the she-devil answered first. The teal haired man pursed his lips and inhaled. Ah, was his bitterness quite evident? Never rolled with laughter on his back at the comment Seth made towards Sorano's retreating sister. The guy must be 'the s**t' to have his students run out the room during a lesson. He wondered if the current teacher would do the same. It'd make this lesson a little more interesting.

Lilith was impressed by how the fire typed pokemon wasn't afraid of the water it had run over. " You could learn a thing a two from that one over there, you two..." She said mildly as she just wated, taking mental notes. She wanted her Pichu to be better trained like her glaceon. She felt that the 'infant' pokemon was just to wild and spazzy.

The white haired grunt frowned at the Elite's question. She shook her head slowly. " Kinda hard to train something that acts as if it were just a child of 5 or 6 years." She said bluntly as the pichu was sleeping on her shoulder.

Late.

That is what she was. Which obviously, would not bode well for her at all. Especially being new. Terribly, terribly new.

She rushed down the halls, looking for the room she was looking for, and attempted to slip in, Blue clinging tightly to her shoulders.

While well-trained, Moloch wasn't going to stay soaked longer than he had to. Crunching treats and dripping water, the giant canine trotted away from the group and treated himself to a twisting gyration that started at his nose and traveled down his bulky body, sending a spray of droplets pattering in all directions. It was a good, thoroughly doggy shake. The Arcanine gave Lennyka's screaming exit a puzzled, inquisitive look as he trotted back to his trainer.

The giant dog's damp fur spiked up in all directions and he was no longer vibrating with energy. His brief swim had taken the edge off his enthusiasm and health, but he was still in good shape and could probably do it two or three more times before needing medical attention. He sat, head cocked to one side, attention on Nadja. His interest was piqued. Food was involved.

Nadja frowned as one grunt tore out of the gym. She was going to take some work, that one. Her gaze fell on Sorano. "Retrieve her, if you'd be so kind." That was what brothers were for. Lilith's reply drew an brief chuckle. "Children are actually very trainable," she replied. "What do you think parenting is?"

"You touch on salient points," she continued, making eye contact with Faleen and Jen in particular, "including motivation." Her gray gaze swept across the half-circle of Rockets. "Humans layer on complexities - duty, societal expectation - but at the core of behavior lie two goals: avoid pain-" She glanced toward the door. "-and seek pleasure. Hello, Seth." The redhead's smirk was accompanied by an amused sound at his comment. "I won't."

As per his request, that was all the attention he got.

Nadja looked back to the assembled grunts, trainees and agents. "What's considered pleasurable varies - between individuals, between moments, and over the course of lives - but some are common. Food. Comfort." Her mouth quirked at some private joke. "Attention. We do our best to anticipate what action brings which consequence and shape things to our advantage. So we run from growling Charizards, look forward to our paychecks, and attend a class to learn something. Training is a shared language that communicates the laws of an environment."

Moloch raised his nose curiously toward the dark figure that had just slipped in. "And one particularly important factor of communication is timing." The elite narrowed her eyes at Ame, then looked back to the group. "Name some others."

Sorano wasn't one to play the act of throw and retrieve if he wanted what hindered him gone. Yet, being acting the role of the fetching Arcanine was all he could muster up as he inclined his head and swiveled on a heel towards the door. Lennyka Dinkley had not gone far. She was curled up into a tight sphere just outside the door, mumbling some obscene words of some sort of obscenity. He glazed past a figure who was late and smirked slightly. When it comes to classes like this, there is always one to be late. Without a doubt. He's glad he watched his a** well and made it on time. Yet, with Missus Let's-Make-A-Scene running from a Charizard growl . . . he wasn't all too happy.

"Len, le's go." he commanded in one sharp growl and sweep of his hand to open the training gymnasium door. "Quit bein' so stubborn an' le's go. Yer not six, yer fricken' twenty-un', now le's flippin' go."

Lennyka shook her head as her shoulders quivered. "Leave me alone, Sorano."

That statement usually meant, "Leave me alone for a couple of hours so I can get my bearings together and finally be able to approach that Pokemon you call a friend."

"We don' have a coup hours, Len. C'mon."

All the coaxing, persuasion and books in the world was not going to make that Dinkley sibling budge. So, he took the initiative. Sorano ripped her glasses from her face as she wavered into a bewildered state, than lead her away into the training gym once again like a loyal little guide dog. Once she took her rightful spot of standing next to him and her now his? Charizard, he slipped the glasses back behind the poles of her ears and nodded once again at the instructor.

"Done." he simply muttered.

Never rolled his eyes. That wasn't very entertaining! A small yawn broke the seams of his lips as he fluffed up his fur and exhaled to allow the fur to relax. How much longer of this, huh?

Emilie tried to shut out her surroundings as she did when she was drawing. She would love to meet and observe the other rockets but there would be better opportunities in the future. The elites, on the other hand, weren't holding classes everyday.

"Consistency," the trainee tried. "You cannot reward an action one day and scold it the next, or let something slide that before you punished. You cannot train for only an hour and and expect the pokemon to remember exactly what you wanted a week from then." She paused, then added hurriedly, "at least when you're starting out." Something told her that the arcanine would have no trouble remembering in a month a command rehearsed for only a few minutes. Admittedly, she'd never applied her words to Leo, but they made sense, after all, she had to practice drawing daily despite mood and her level of enthusiasm if she wished to continue working at form.

The smirk was returned and Seth said nothing more, for now. He then took up a rather strategic position in which to watch the proceedings. The tall elite leaning against the wall casually with his arms crossed. Blue eyes watched carefully, while that ever present smirk remained.

Wellp. Caught. So much for that.

She stopped where she was, snapped up straight, almost tossing poor Blue off her shoulder with the action, and gave full on attention from then.

Only one problem. What was going on? She wasn't going to question, but hopefully pick up on it, as the lecture continued.

...training tips? Oh, how she wanted chew her lip in puzzlement, but she dared not. She almost dared not to breathe.

Her eyes moved to the one who spoke first, about consistency. Ah. Now she got it. She waited for her to finish.

"Repetition," Ame voiced boldly, "to learn one must practice over and over again."

"Vee~" Blue voiced softly in her ear.

Cinaed wrinkled his nose a bit at the spray flying off the Arcanine but was thankful not to be within range of the watery attack.

Standing up a bit straighter as Nadja stared at her, the grunt nodded softly at the elite's words. All good points and all valuable with training indeed.

"Patience." She spoke up again at the instructors' next question as her Charmeleon blinked up at his trainers' face. "More often then once, some get frustrated when a lesson or whatnot does not go the way it was intended. A pokemon needs a patient trainer in order to fare better in training or in a future battle; after all, one cant learn if the teacher goes storming out of the room after several failed tries."

The hands she had folded behind her back linked together as she paused to consider the question,
Listening carefully to the replies of the others in the group, finding that the nature of their answer were more or less the same.
Most of the class was paying better attention now, once the instructor had started talking, the other noises died down, Faleen was much more grateful for this.

She had nothing to pull from, other then her own experiences with training, and more times then not, its was 'do it, or else' though, it never came to the 'or else' bit.
The question got Faleen thinking quite deeply for an answer, but she wasn't quite certain on anything she was coming up with.
Faleen chose not to speak this time, instead she waited patiently for more insight. Feeling rather excited to know more.

Nyx watched the other Rockets as they called out answers. This reminded her of when she was in school. Like in school, she was quiet and took notes.

"Operant... conditioning..." Nyx said, mostly to herself, as she wrote the word in her note pad, followed by the things Nadja and the others said.

Beaker crossed her large turtle-y arms and waited. When was the fighting going to start?

"Thank you," Nadja told Sorano when his sister was retrieved, and seemed to mean it. Shortly thereafter she smiled at Nyx. "You're familiar with the theory." The redhead sounded pleased; her voice had a silver, murmury quality just then.

"Yes," she nodded at Emilie, "and yes," to Ame, "and yes," to Jen. "But so far only one of you has mentioned rewards." That crisp, clear edge returned to her voice again, and she shifted her weight to one side, resting one hand on her hip and gesturing with the other. "From what I've observed you use threats-" Her gaze shifted to Nyx, flat gray this time, then Jen "-and domination. And these have their place, but there is something to consider. Good communication means reciprocity."

The redhead gave the group a look with a slight downtilt of her head, pearl earrings swaying. "As long as a Pokemon - or child - is weaker than you, such heavy-handed methods work. But children grow up. Pokemon evolve. And by the time they have such strength to be useful they may ask themselves, what's in it for them?" She glanced at the hulking Blastoise, and the corner of her mouth twitched with some emotion, possibly humor. "So."

"We learn by doing. The best way to be a trainer is to train," Nadja smirked, "-and be trained. Split into pairs. You and you," the elite indicated Faleen and Emilie, Lilith and Nyx, "and you and you," then Lennyka and Jen, and Ame and Sorano. "You can return your Pokemon. You won't need them for the rest of this lesson." She did so with her Arcanine now, after giving him a pat on the neck.

"Train a simple behavior in your partner using the principles we just discussed. No language, only sounds - use these as rewards." Small drawstring pouches were tossed to Faleen, Nyx, Jen and Sorano. They were full of Skitties, that popular rainbow-colored candy. "'Simple' means 'pick a certain object up.' 'Walk to this spot.' Nothing demeaning. You have ten minutes."
