~(( A Star that was a Boy ))~ One day it burst into... a child. You smile like the sunshine beaming Golden sparkle around our cheeks Starlight deep into your eyes A sunny boy Smiling foreverly Pika stretched and came downstairs yawning. Morning time was not always the best of times to meet the pink-haired owner/manager/janitor of the Wethkin Shoppe, but that did not matter today; for today Pika discovered she had a cold, and this made all times barely tolerable.
Stepping into the kitchen she grabbed the cupboard door, reached in and took hold of a box of cereal. Cereal was the best invention in modern foods in Pika's opinion. It was always ready to eat right out of the box. Just add milk. Pouring in the milk she grabbed a cup of juice and sat down at the coffee table to eat. Barely taking note of her surroundings she mindlessly chewed while trying not to sniffle her nose into clogged sinus pain.
Someone sniffled back.
Pika sat up straight with a startled expression on her face.
"Noctryn...was that you?"
No response. Noctryn typically was the earliest one up in the house, but she had already wandered outside for the day.
The sniffle sounded again.
Pika put down her bowl and peaked over the back of the sofa across from her. There was...a boy? And he was the one sniffling.
"What's wrong? Are you lost? How did you get in here? I don't unlock the door till 11am..." her voice trailed off as the boy turned his face up towards her.
It shone with an unearly glow, like he had been lit up inside with billions of tiny fireflies. Deep golden eyes regarded her. His hair was a dandylion puff of pale blonde curls. Sparks of light were shining out from behind his back like he was leaning on a silent sparkler. And he had two tiny horns peeking up out of his curls.
"I don't know where I am," he said self-conciously. "I was sleeping...somewhere. It was nice and warm and bright and then something happened. The light was me and I was getting pushed out, but out of what I don't know, and then," he took a deep breath, "I was here, well not here, but sitting on the table." He nodded earnestly. "I's the truth."
Pika's eye widened as she looked over her shoulder at the table. Beside her cereal bowl was her star ornamental lantern, but it was no longer pulsing with light. It seemed kind of...empty.
"Well then this must be yours now little boy," she said and picked the lantern gently and passed it down to him. His eyes grew even larger and he started crying.
"I didn't mean to," he sobbed. "Mean to knock it over..."
The small silver tree that had been holding the star had fallen over to the floor and had one branch bent at an akward angle.
"Don't be silly. That doesn't matter at the moment. We can fix it when you want to put the star back on it to show off, ok? What you need is a name." Thoughtfully, she tapped her lips.
"A name? But my name is...what is my name? Why does it feel like...its gone," he scrunched his brow in concernation.
Pika sighed. "It can't be gone and if it is we just have to find it! Come sit over here where its more comfy." She patted the sofa.
As he stood up and walk around to sit on the couch, Pika noticed that he had a long tail and small nubby spikes sticking out the back of his jogging suit. 'Well, he certainly is different' Pika thought to herself. As he sat she asked, "What letter do you think it started with? 'S'?"
"'S'...like 'star'?"
She nodded.
"I don't think that was it but it feels kinda right but not the right sound." He was picking at the seem along the sofa cushion and wouldn't meet her eyes.
Pika could tell he was uncomfortable still but thought she would be too if she forgot her own name.
"So if it's not the right sound why don't we try sounding them all out?"
"Ok" he said. "'Ah', 'buh', 'cuh'-'suh', 'd'h', 'eh'-'eie', 'fph', 'guh'-'juh', 'huh', 'ih', 'juh'...wait!" he exclaimed as Pika had been repeating the sounds after him. "That one sounded right! 'huh', 'ha', 'ho'...'shi'?" he sounded uncertain.
"Huhahoshi?" Pika said with an odd look on her face.
"No, no, no. Ho-shi. That's my name. Hoshi." he looked up at her with a smile that flicked across his face as fast as a shooting star. He looked away again.
"That's a great name! It means 'star' doesn't it? Just like the lantern," she said trying to make him smile again.
It didn't work. Hoshi frowned a bit at the lantern he was holding. Slowly rubbing his hands across its papery surface, it started to glow again. This time his smile came back and stayed on. "Look it remembers me!" he proclaimed jumping to his feet, tail lashing.
"Well of course it knows you! You came from it and its a part of you, right? That's what Bumby said..." her voice trailed off as she pictured the big, long-haired, fox-earred guy.
"Bumby?" Who's that?" Hoshi really wondered. But he could feel the truth of the words. As the lanturn sat in his hands, he could feel it...like he could feel any part of himself from his tongue to his toes. Concentrating on that part brought him a feeling of peace and warmth.
He looked directly at Pika, "I want to meet this Bumby soon."
Startled by his directness Pika looked at him askance. "Um, ok I suppose. But lets eat something first." As she looked back at her bowl she could tell it was getting to be too soggy. Sighing she stood up and went to make something else. For two.
As she started toward the kitchen she felt two arms wrap around her back and sqeeze. She looked at Hoshi peeking at her from under her arm.
"Thank you for helping me find my name" he said simply.~ - - - - - - - - - - ~

~(( And He Went to a Tea Party))~
-Participants: Gokiloud | Pika-Bunny | Hoshi -
Shooting star, Falling star, Burning with a light.
Shooting star, Falling star, Lighting up the night.
Shooting star, Falling star, What a sight to see.
Shooting star, Shining star, Grant a wish for me.
"Come on slow down!" Pika yelled as the small blonde boy darted between parked cars. 'He doesn't seem to be listening very well' she thought and sighed. Perhaps taking him to a tea party after shoe shopping wasn't the greatest of ideas...'
Both of them had been going from store to store trying on shoes, and then at the very last store, she had made the mistake of pointing out the outdoor sports section. Cleats, golf shoes, ski boots, skates and...rollerblades. She inwardly sighed again. Hoshi was quick enough on his feet without the added wheels.
Hoshi giggled as he heard Pika calling at him from the otherside of the lot. He couldn't help himself; these new shoes were the greatest thing ever. And the first item he got to pick out for himself. Pika always insisted on her choice of groceries and stuff. These rollerblades were his to enjoy. Skidding to a halt he waited for Pika to catch up.
'Honestly she probably walks slower just to act extra grumpy' he thought to himself. "Come on slowpoke we are going to be late for the party!". Not that he was totally sure what a party was. He hadn't met any of his own kind yet and Pika told him that was what the party was for. Meeting new people and having fun and he couldn't wait any longer. Pushing off he started up the street to the Soul Emporium with Pika grumbling after him. He knew she was faking it.
As Hoshi approached the entrance he could hear some voices coming from the alley beside the shop. Curious, but still wanting to go inside first, he opened the door and slipped in. There were quite a few people around a table covered in drinks and food.
"Hello!" Hoshi said. "I am Hoshi and I have never met any of you before!" he had a big smile on his face as he eyed the table and caught sight of some cupcakes. "Do I spy cupcakes?"
He went straight to a chair near the table and sat down. Taking a napkin and a cupcake he looked to the door to see if Pika had arrived yet. 'Hmm not yet' he thought as he sunk his teeth into the soft desert. 'Lemon angelfood, mmm' smiling Hoshi looked around as he ate.
Gokiloud turned his attention to another lanturn. He had never seen him before. He went over to him. "Hello," he said.
Hoshi noticed a boy approaching him and gulped down the cupcake. "Hi! I'm Hoshi. You must be a lanturn like me huh? What's your name?" he said with a grin.
