Rahkain

PostPosted: Sun Aug 29, 2010 7:31 pm

Rahkain listened patiently to Leon's story. Having had a few too many himself by this time, Rahkain hardly really registered what had happened to Leon. But he did have a few questions about the old man.

"Sohhhmmmm..." He half-sighed. "This man. Who's 'e anyways?" He said as he dealt another hand of cards out and ordered one more drink. The men were playing just for fun, now. Any rational thoughts of betting had passed. They thought it wiser not to as they were all a bit more than tipsy now. "From the way they were looking at 'im... Nobody around here likes 'im?" He slurred and shortened words as he spoke.

Aahh boy. I'm drunk. Jus' one more... Can't hurt... Haaaa...

Rahkain looked distant for a moment. He realized he didn't have anywhere to go after this. How much were inns here? Did he have enough money left? The thought passed quickly and he looked expectantly at Leon for the answer to his questions.

User ImageWhoa, talk about drama llama. The ex-lieutenant got fired due to a little misunderstanding? Man, talk about having life kicked you in the balls. The tiger wasn't sure what got up in the old man's a** to put out a stunt like that. However, just hearing about the old beorc made him feel nuisance. If that old goat pulled a stunt that would piss the tiger, he would have one knock-out punch from Rajin.

"Heh, well that's good you told that old fart you didn't want to work for him. If it were me, I would have given him a different answer, a shiny black eye. After all, if life tries to screw you up, screw life back."

The tiger's ears twitch when he heard a hiccup from Leon. Based by the expression the Great Knight was giving and the smell of his breath, it was very clear that Leon was drunk.

"Oy, what a light drinker you are." Rajin commented as he took another sip from his drink. Although this was his eight bottle of alcohol he had, he wasn't drunk like Leon and maybe Rahkain. Maybe it was because he was a laguz and he could handle his drinking well. Rajin knew he was a moderate drinker on alcohol, but he wasn't sure just how much was too much to the beorc.

His ears twitched again when he heard Rahkain asking a question while dealing the hand. The tiger picked up his cards and looked at them. It looked like a good hand to him. Rajin answered.

"Dunno, never met the old fart. From what I heard, he's the adviser of a kid who is our king right now. Can't remember his name though. Ragdoll, Ravioli, or something like that." He then turned to Leon to see if the fellow was still in his conscious mind. Maybe he knew about that old geezer. After all, he met him before. "Yo Leon, you've met the old fart before. Do you know him?"

I fought my battles with honor,
I let chivalry be my only reason...
But yet, it was never enough.

User ImageThere would be no more drinks for Leon tonight. It was bad enough that he would have to rely on Anri's sense of direction now, there wasn't any need for him to drink himself to the point of blacking out. Yes, that's where he and Ghis differed: Leon knew his limits. He was not going to be one of those drunken fools that had to be carried home, he would get there by himself no matter what he had to do. Who knows how much longer he'd be able to live in that particular house, anyway?

The brunette rubbed the temples of his head slightly. Some of the stress combined with having a little too much alcohol was beginning to get to him. Just the mentioning of that... well, a word was yet to be invented for the adviser, but he was one, and a total one at that! "I didn't know 'im personally, and frankly, I dun' wanna know 'im personally! Ya know, I bet even 'is own mother didn't like 'im!" Leon had now thrown all his restraints out the window, so the insults probably weren't all that surprising.

"His name's Rogvald or somethin' though... tha's what they called 'im. I've gotta few names for 'im myself but... well, I'm sure ya know what kinda names they are." The former Watch officer laughed at the last part. Oh, how he wanted to say it, the string of curses that would never end. The bits of four-and-five letter words that that man deserved, and so, so much more. The only reason he didn't punch Rogvald in the face, as Rajin had suggested, was because Leon wouldn't give the crooked adviser the satisfaction of seeing him rot in a cell.

At the end of his little drunken frenzy of derogatory terms though, Leon could still notice that Rahkain was just about as smashed as he was, and his eyes just begged the question. Where could he stay for the night? Well, any cheesy bard would answer "Heartbreak Hotel", but the brunette had another answer in mind. "There's an inn not too far from 'ere. Right next door's a large shop, 's called Sparkles. A good friend of mine runs it. Tell 'er hi for me. I'll be crashin' at my place tonight."

User ImageZiaram arrived back in Eyris later than those from Sires. The first thing he did was go off for a tavern, to get some drinks, and at least get some worries off of his chest. The only thing he did not expect to see once he got inside was Leon there. Just what I needed...to see someone that was with the group that I failed with.

The only thing that kept him around was the fact that Leon was drunk...and this was not the ordinary drunk. Chances are, Leon wouldn't recognize Ziaram, so that was good for him. He walked in, and sat down by the people, and just observed the other by him. A laguz, and then...someone else. He had never seen this person before, so it didn't matter.

"Either of you two know a good drink someone can take to forget some problems?" Hey, someone needed a bit of help here, and the problem on Ziaram's chest wouldn't go away with a few shots.

User ImageSo Leon didn't know that old fart very well. Huh, and he could have sworn the Great Knight knew due to his former rank. The closer you were to the higher authority, the better. Maybe the fellow wasn't in the same rank as others were like that guild and Guards.

The tiger's ears when he heard footsteps coming closer. Turning his head a bit, he saw a man in black clothing coming to their table. Seeing the weapon hanging on his hip, the tiger assumed that fellow was a swordsman. But why did that fellow want to sit with them?

It just so happened that the fellow was down too like Leon and wanted to drown his sorrow. Man, was everyone having a bad day today? Because it seemed that only Rahkain and himself were the only ones who were having fun. Of course, that was because of the booze and card games.

"Only if you pay the refill for us." Rajin commented to the swordsman, but offered his unopened drink to him. The tiger took another sip of his own drink. "Let me guess, you got fired from your job too by that old fart, huh?"

Wil just finished practicing his archery skills on the targets he hung outside his small tent. "Nothing like a good ol' camping trip to make you feel at one with the world." Ignoring the fact that his whole life had been a camping trip since he got to Learania. He had spent most of his days scouting out the land and creating his own small map.

He had traveled as far as he could into Aldliana, basking in the natural beauty of the plains while trying to avoid the unknown nomads that roamed them on horseback. He had been through the central forests of Estarcia and even to the business capital. However upon discovering the money crazed nature of the people there, and his low coin purse he decided it best to leave.

From there he went southeast. Down to the country named after the famed kingdom Learania. He visited the Capital of Eyris and marveled at the ruins of the once great city. He decided to leave before things got hairy as he heard of the rebellion.

"Well I guess its time I went to get a drink." Wil slung his bow and quiver over his shoulder and headed for the nearest tavern. He walked for about an hour, cataloging all the animals and their traits. "Need information to survive in the wild." He had just finished sketching a small rabbit that was new to his eyes when he heard a hearty laugh. "Oh, not exactly the kind of tavern I want to go to. But beggars can't be choosers." Wil put his pencil and his sketchpad in his sack and headed of for the tavern.

Wil made his up to the building and entered through the door. He had a few empty skins that were made from elk hide for carrying water. He walked up to the tavern master. "Just water please?" He then turned in the chair to look around at all the rugged men, some looking rather close to soldiers. 'This must be a relaxation place for the guards. Although it looks like some are becoming more relaxed then necessary.' He noticed a card game going on and decided to watch it while his skins were being filled.

Shortly after Wil entered, he might have felt a large, shadowy customer (that was not Ghis) giving him the "Stink Eye".

"Hey, boi," he growled. "We don't SERVE yer kind here. Go back where ye came from an' get yer OWN waddah." It was a bit difficult to tell who he was, but at least he was unarmed. If Wil had a bow and was a decent enough shot, then most likely this patron had more bark than bite.

"Oh excuse me. I suppose that you only serve drunken fools who only know how to talk big when their body, and by the looks of it, their gut matches their mouth." Wil still sat there looking at the card game. He learned the names of the players. There was Leon, Rahkain, and Rajin. And he had found out that apparently Leon was an ex watch from the city of Eyris.

He looked back at the weighty drunken soldier. "Now if you will kindly allow me to finish watching this game here, get my water and leave. So if it's not to much trouble..." Wil slid down from his chair and easily maneuvered around the lumbering drunk. He positioned himself behind him and quickly drew his bow and nocked an arrow even quicker. "Move your ill-manners else where before I'm forced to move your body." Wil turned to everyone else. He gave them a smile. "Sorry everyone, small manner of business had to be taken take of. I apologize for in the interruption. Back to drinks. And you to your card game." Wil turned his attention back to the walking target of man in front of him.

"You backtalkin' me, boi!?" The heavyset man roared. "We don't take kindly t' people who backtalk he--where'd he go!?" For Wil had moved surprisingly quickly.

"Boss! He's right behind you, and he's got a bow!" said a shrimpier-looking fellow. At this point, most everyone put down their drinks at stared at Wil. This was a half-decent tavern, not some dark anything-goes alley! What, would he murder a man just for a rude comment? Oh, such a dark and twisted world they lived in, that free men could die for loose tongues!

"A bow? We don't take kindly t' bows here, stranger!" The man shouted again. "Yer... BOWS ain't welcome here, ye got that?"

"Boss... maybe we should go. We're causing a big scene!" The shrimpy man again. "Besides, he's not worth our time."

The fatter man grumbled for a few tense seconds. The crowd held its breath, grabbing whatever they could in case a good old-fashioned bar brawl went down. The two drunks huddled a little closer, having a heated whispered exchange. Wil apologized, but drawing one's weapon in a semi-respectable establishment was not a way to earn trust.

"...Hmph. Alright, alright. Another time. C'mon, Bulbasaur, go find Psyduck and let's scram."

"Right away, Boss!"

They left... FOR NOW. Oh, and Bulbasaur (for that was the shimpy man's name) brought a plain-looking, flat-chested woman (probably Psyduck) with him on the way out.

"Thank you." Wil dropped his bow and put the arrow back into his quiver. "Next time you may want to cut back okay?" Wil smiled at the man who had previously threatened him. He looked around. He could see some of the angst-y stares he was getting. He raised his hands defensively.

"Oh, my, I've caused quite an uncomfortable setting haven't I?" Wil grabbed his pouch and got a small satchel. 'Eh.... Theres barely enough for this. But... I guess I have to.'

Wil turned to the bar and put some money down on the table. He turned around with another bundle and quickly counted. 'What am I doing stop it stupid. Your gonna drain yourself.' Wil took in a deep breath. "The next rounds on me!"

Rahkain shook his head, hardly comprehending anything that had just gone on. Something about drunks fighting, bows, someone ordering water, some people talking to them, some other people leaving and someone paying for more drinks!

More drinks are good. Previously the young man had been considering heading off to the inn suggested by Leon. However, if there were more drinks involved, he may as well stay a while longer.

"Well, boys... I think I ought to head offn' find someplace to stay after a few more games... and drinks-- and stuff." He said to Leon and Rajin. He looked at the swordsman whom had approached and asked about drowning his sorrows. "So that ol' man's on a roll, in'e? That... Frogverd? Rongall? Froggone? Dogmauled? Hey there's an idea. Dogs! Get some wild dogs and maul 'im. Fix the probl'm wonnit."

User ImageBy now, the word had spread. It’s not like the infamous Eyris Rumor Mill was going to let the news stay a secret for long: everyone knew now that terrible things were afoot in the fair city. Guild members, Watch members, even the Captain, Rath, were all facing sentences for crimes they committed during wartime no less, where they didn’t have a choice! Hearing all this made Victoria sorrowful, at least, and worried for the Guild’s future, even though she and her companions had returned safely from their battle front. There was only one thing she could do, only one thing that anyone could do when the situation got as tough as it did right now. It was not the time to spark Divine magic, and nor could a staff heal the sorrows in which the city now endured.

The people of this city needed spiritual guidance. They needed to have someone to speak to the deities, and let their many prayers be heard. Violence, anger, hatred… none of those were the answer, nor would they bring justice. Knowing this full well, the follower of Elimine had left her tomes at home, and only had a staff that was purely ceremonial, used to do something that she hadn’t done since her arrival at Eyris. With Father Renault mysteriously missing, and Father Rhys busy with his many duties that Sainthood and Knighthood gave him, she was the only one left to perform this very important holy duty.

“No one else can deliver this sermon, so it will be up to me.” She thought as she donned the holy robes of the minister, which were quite different (and a bit more stylish) than that of a bishop on healing duty. She was slightly nervous about delivering the Service today, but… it was now or never. There was no time like the present for a prayer. With all her courage she could muster, Sister Victoria stepped out now, facing the people who came to worship and pray. It was time for her to deliver a prayer that would be heard.

“People of Eyris, I know that we face many difficult times ahead of us. I know that now, our futures are most uncertain…” begun the holy bishop, making sure to eye the crowd of worshippers who’d gathered here to hear her words. “And I realize how the news you hear must make you feel. There is fear, anger, and many more negative emotions on your faces. I can see that, and so can those above us. However, it is not a time for us to raise our hands in fists of rage… but to put them together and pray. Pray for the lives of those on trial. Pray for the future of our beloved city! Speak your words to Saint Elimine and the great Goddess Ashera, for now, more than ever, we need their blessings upon us.” After she had spoken her part, Victoria herself put her hands together, whispering the words of prayer. “Oh Saint Elimine… please grant us a miracle…”

User Image"I'm just here because I failed to support the group at Sires...what is this about people losing their jobs, and an old fart? I thought Rath was in charge here...oh and yeah I'll pay for the refills."

Just great...now there was an old fart in charge of the entire guild? Who in the right sense of mind would do something as idiotic as this? Oh well...he would get his answers from the tiger.

"Sounds like this old fart doesn't have any supporters." Taking a sip from the drink that was offered him. "I guess those in the right sense of mind would prefer the old ways, raqther than this old fart. Is this really the only thing new that has happened here?"
